Title: Bridging the Digital Divide: Empowering Nigerian Youth for a Sustainable Future
“It is dangerously destabilising to have half the world on the cutting edge of technology while the other half struggles on the bare edge of survival." – William J. Clinton, Former U.S. President
In today’s highly interconnected world, digital access is no longer a luxury but a critical necessity for economic development, educational advancement, and social inclusion. Unfortunately, for many Nigerians, especially the youth, digital access remains a distant dream. This growing digital divide continues to hinder national progress and deepens existing inequalities.
Beyond just access, digital literacy remains a significant obstacle. A large number of young people in Nigeria lack the basic skills to operate digital tools, navigate online platforms, or protect themselves in the digital space. This gap not only limits their ability to benefit from educational content and job opportunities but also deprives them of the tools needed to thrive in a digital economy.
Zenith Orla Support Foundation recognises the urgency of this challenge and believes that the solutions are within our reach. To bridge this divide, collaborative efforts are required. Stakeholders must prioritise investments in affordable broadband infrastructure across urban and rural areas. Public-private partnerships should also explore initiatives such as community Wi-Fi hotspots and subsidised digital devices to make technology more accessible.
As part of its commitment to change, Zenith Orla Support Foundation is stepping forward to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and other specialised programmes. By equipping young Nigerians with practical digital skills and competencies, the foundation hopes to build a generation that is not just digitally aware, but digitally empowered. This is the path toward a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable Nigeria.
