Causes of Ulcer – What’s Really Eating You Up?
Ulcer is not just “from hunger” – let’s get it straight!
Many people think ulcer is caused only by skipping meals.
But the truth is: it’s deeper than just an empty stomach.
Here’s what actually causes ulcers 👇
1. H. pylori Infection
This is a bacteria that lives in the stomach lining.
Over time, it weakens the protective lining and allows acid to create painful sores.
🦠 You can get it from:
Contaminated food or water
Poor hygiene (e.g., dirty hands or utensils)
2. Overuse of Painkillers
Drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, and diclofenac (NSAIDs) can irritate your stomach wall.
Especially when taken on an empty stomach or for too long.
3. Stress & Worry
Chronic stress doesn’t directly cause ulcers, but it worsens the symptoms.
It increases acid production and slows healing.
Wahala lifestyle = ulcer flare-ups.
4. Spicy, Acidic & Processed Foods
Eating too much pepper, fried foods, or acidic things like soda, alcohol, or coffee can irritate your stomach lining.
5. Smoking & Alcohol
These two delay healing, weaken the stomach wall, and boost acid levels.
Mix them with H. pylori? Ulcer explosion!
What You Can Do:
Eat small meals regularly
Avoid self-medicating with painkillers
Get tested for H. pylori if you have symptoms
Manage stress and rest well
Reduce spicy & acidic food
Quit smoking or alcohol if possible
