The southern province of Guangdong in China has been hit by heavy rainfall leading to swelling rivers and fears of severe flooding.

According to state media, the flooding could be of the sort only "seen around once a century".

Lucky Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious in the Ondo All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election after winning in 16 of the 18 local government areas.

He secured a ticket for the upcoming governorship election in November.

The Chairman of the election committee, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, declared him the winner in the early hours of Monday.

The direct primary election method was utilized in all 203 electoral wards across the 18 LGAs in Ondo state.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has clarified that the bank is not using the country's foreign reserves to strengthen the Naira.

Speaking at the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank, Cardoso stated that the Naira is performing independently and not as speculated by the public.

The CBN is committed to building a foreign exchange market based on willing buyers and sellers rather than pumping forex into the market, which has led to speculation about the depletion of foreign reserves.

Following a prolonged siege by anti-corruption operatives at the Wuse Zone 4 residence of the former Kogi governor on Wednesday, the embattled ex-governor, Yahaya Bello, was taken from his Abuja home by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, as reported by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC had earlier surrounded Bello's residence, aiming to arrest and charge him for corruption offenses on Thursday.

Governor Ododo's arrival amidst cheers from Bello's supporters led to his departure from the premises alongside the ex-governor, as verified by the anti-graft agency.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria states that no court in Nigeria can grant a former governor life immunity based on the Nigerian Constitution.

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, criticized a court decision that barred the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from apprehending and prosecuting individuals.

Mr. Falana objected to a ruling by a state high court in Kogi State that instructed the EFCC not to detain the former governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello.

He is scheduled to appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024.

Channels Television obtained a copy of the charge filed on April 4th by EFCC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), along with seven other lawyers representing the Commission’s chairman.
