OPEN LETTER TO THE MINISTER FOR SPECIAL DUTIES AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS, HONORABLE ZAPHANIAH BITRUS JISALO,
Dear HON. JISALO
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my concern regarding your performance as the Minister for special duties and intergovernmental affairs.
It has been over a year period since you assume office. The day your name was included in the ministerial nomination list was a day full of excitement and hope for we the good people of FCT; at last our very own indegine will be made a Federal minister which is the first time in the history of our dear Nation. After the nomination came the screening by the legislative arm of the government, which you scaled through and we became even more excited that Abuja is finally being fully represented by a son of the soil.
Our hope was even more elevated when you were given the portfolio of the minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs. A good administrator will understand the basis of our excitement for the portfolio was a strong and influential one where you could offer your utmost service to the Nation and make us, your people even prouder, engrave your name with golden ink in the historical reference of our NATION. Remember, you are a representation and ambassador of the good and competent people of the FCT; do well to give us a good name and deliver your duties as a minister for special duties and intergovernmental affairs.
Unfortunately, Mr honorable minister, you have been silent, ineffective and worst of all, we the good people of FCT are not feeling your presence on that seat. We are not asking for much from you, honorable, we are not asking for peanuts, we are not asking unmerited appointments, or any unearned favor, or corrupt PRACTICES. All we need from you is not to fail Mr President on the mandate he bestowed on you; not to misrepresent the good people of FCT as incompetent people; not to fail Nigerians.
This letter is specially aimed at waking you up to the responsibility you owe to the nation and to the good people of the FCT.
For instance, the recent nationwide protest that was held should not have happened if you were up to task and effective because your office has that mandate and could control the situation under special duties. In as much as the Presidency is concerned you are a major player in the affairs of this administration.
Some of the expected functions of your position goes thus:
Assisting the President to formulate and articulate his leadership Agenda.
Assisting in Managing the President Schedule to ensure that his activities follow espoused priorities.
Coordination of the President response to emergencies
Ex*****on of special projects as may be assigned by the President
Serves as liaison of the Agency to other Agencies and National Assembly on Strategic Partnership, Security matters, and inter-agency cooperation;
Monitors the implementation of special programs, projects and policy matters by conducting impact assessment on various programs as directed by the President.
Explores, Survey and identify critical Stakeholders for Partnership.
Above all highlighted functions, is your mandate. The mandate states that your portfolio shall cover the development and implementation of policies, programmes and projects towards improvement of Inter- Governmental relations at the state and Local Government Levels in addition to the special duties you owe to the President to make Nigeria better. Are you delivering?
We are appealing for you to wake up to the task resting on your shoulder as a minister and as an indegine of the FCT. Nigerians need that your office to be active and functional, not to warm chairs and receive salaries. Wake up sir.
I urge you to take this as a wake-up call to reflect on your responsibilities and to implement the necessary changes to ensure you carry out your work effectively and with integrity. The FCT deserves a representative who is dedicated to fostering positive relationships and promoting the interests of its people.
We look forward to seeing swift action and improvements in your approach to your duties. Together, we can work towards a better future for the FCT and its residents.
Thank you Sir
MCFP Faruk Abubakar (AFAR) Garki
