Peter Obi: Tell Nigerians About Your Financial Recklessness and Corruption as Anambra Governor

Dear Peter Obi,

Thank you for your feedback regarding President Bola Tinubu's decision to write off the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited's debt, which is within his constitutional powers. Now, let us talk about you.

As Governor of Anambra, you, Peter Obi, refused to build even a single nursery, primary, secondary school, or university, or a standalone hospital.

The reason you refused to do this is because you were stashing Anambra State Government funds in a bank in which you had substantial shares and was its former Chairman of the Board.

You, Peter Obi, deposited a sum in excess of $45 million equivalent in this bank, which I will not name, due to a promise I made to the immediate past Chairman of the bank, in which you are perhaps the single biggest shareholder.

You, Peter Obi, deliberately refused to use that money to build projects in Anambra, which made you the only Governor in Anambra's history since 1999 under whom poverty increased.

Please fact-check me: The poverty rate in Anambra was 41.4% in 2003, before you, Peter Obi, took office, and rose to 53.7% by 2009, during your governorship, a 29.7% increase.

And the reason you did not want the money to leave F******* was that those funds were earning interest for the bank, and a large proportion of that money was your own personal profit as a major shareholder and former Chairman.

The account number in which you deposited some of those funds into at F******* Bank is 5030047097.

In any other country, you, Peter Obi, would be in jail today for corruption. You enriched yourself, your business partners, and fellow shareholders by depositing Anambra State Government funds with F******* Bank at a time when over 77 communities in Anambra had no schools, and over 200 other homesteads had no clinics or hospitals.

Please fact-check me: That money invested in the S&P 500 (which is what most banks do with deposits) would have yielded about $10 million (US Dollars) profit annually. Much of that money would have ended up in Obi's pocket.

No wonder Peter Obi boasted on Monday, September 5, 2022, that "I am richer than the American President."

How won't he boast when he was drunk on corruptly acquired wealth?

My name is Reno Omokri. If I am lying, I challenge you, Peter Obi, to sue me.

And those facts are why the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists indicted Peter Obi for fraudulent activities and sundry other criminal enterprises in the now infamous Pandora Papers.

Atiku: No Aspirant Will Step Down in ADC Presidential Race

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says no contender in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will be pressured to withdraw from the party’s presidential race ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, Atiku accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to intimidate and weaken the opposition as the elections draw closer.

He stressed that all qualified aspirants would be allowed to “present themselves freely” whenever the ADC commences its candidate selection process.

Atiku’s comments come amid speculation that he is facing pressure to step aside to allow a southern aspirant emerge as the party’s presidential flagbearer.

Wike-aligned PDP faction gives APC national secretary 48-hour ultimatum to apologise

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), demanding a public apology to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Basiru had, on Monday, called on Wike to resign his ministerial position and concentrate on what he described as an “obsession” with Rivers State politics. The remarks followed Wike’s warning to the APC chieftain to steer clear of political affairs in Rivers State.

Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Etim Isong, the factional South-South zonal publicity secretary of the PDP, condemned Basiru’s comments, describing them as a “personal attack” on Wike and insisting that an apology must be tendered within 48 hours.

Kwankwaso: I’ll Only Defect If Offered 2027 Presidential or VP Ticket

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has said he would only consider leaving the party if he is offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso also criticised the reported plan by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such a move as a betrayal.

Speaking to NNPP supporters at his residence in Kano on Wednesday, the former governor said that despite his nearly four decades in politics, his supporters across the country would only support a defection that secures him one of the top two positions in the 2027 race.

FULL TEXT OF PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU NEW YEAR MESSAGE

Fellow Compatriots,

I welcome you all to 2026, with gratitude to God and confidence in our collective resolve that this new year will be a more prosperous one for our nation, our citizens, and all who call Nigeria home.

During 2025, we sustained the momentum on our major reforms. We had a fiscal reset and also recorded steady economic progress. Despite persistent global economic headwinds, we recorded tangible and measurable gains, particularly in the economy. These achievements reaffirm our belief that the difficult but necessary reforms we embarked upon are moving us in the right direction with more concrete results on the horizon for the ordinary Nigerian.

𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤

As we enter 2026, our focus is on consolidating these gains and continuing to build a resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and growth-oriented economy.

We closed 2025 on a strong note. Despite the policies to fight inflation, Nigeria recorded a robust GDP growth each quarter, with annualised growth expected to exceed 4 per cent for the year. We maintained trade surpluses and achieved greater exchange rate stability. Inflation declined steadily and reached below 15 per cent, in line with our target. In 2026, we are determined to reduce inflation further and ensure that the benefits of reform reach every Nigerian household. In 2025, the Nigerian Stock Exchange outperformed its peers, posting a robust 48.12 per cent gain and consolidating its bullish run that began in the second half of 2023.

Supported by sound monetary policy management, our foreign reserves stood at $45.4 billion as of December 29, 2025, providing a substantial buffer against external shocks for the Naira. We expect this position to strengthen further in the new year.

Foreign direct investment is also responding positively. In the third quarter of 2025, FDI rose to $720 million, up from $90 million in the preceding quarter, reflecting renewed investor confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction, which global credit rating agencies, including Moody’s, Fitch, and Standard & Poor’s, have consistently affirmed and applauded.

𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐚𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦

A few days ago, I presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly. In that address, I emphasised that our administration has implemented critical reforms that are laying a solid foundation for long-term stability and prosperity. With patience, fiscal discipline, and unity of purpose, Nigeria will emerge in 2026 stronger and better positioned for sustained growth.

As inflation and interest rates moderate, we expect increased fiscal space for productive investment in infrastructure and human capital development. We are also confronting the challenge of multiple taxation across all tiers of government. I commend states that have aligned with the national tax harmonisation agenda by adopting harmonised tax laws to reduce the excessive burden of taxes, levies, and fees on our people and on basic consumption.

The new year marks a critical phase in implementing our tax reforms, designed to build a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for Nigeria. By harmonising our tax system, we aim to raise revenue sustainably, address fiscal distortions and strengthen our capacity to finance infrastructure and social investments that will deliver shared prosperity.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

My fellow Nigerians, the path of reform is never easy, but it is necessary. We remain mindful that economic progress must be accompanied by security and peace.

Our nation continues to confront security threats from criminal and terrorist elements determined to disrupt our way of life. In collaboration with international partners, including the United States, decisive actions were taken against terrorist targets in parts of the Northwest on December 24. Our Armed Forces have since sustained operations against terror networks and criminal strongholds across the Northwest and Northeast.

In 2026, our security and intelligence agencies will deepen cooperation with regional and global partners to eliminate all threats to national security. We remain committed to protecting lives, property, and the territorial integrity of our country. I continue to believe that a decentralised policing system with appropriate safeguards, complemented by properly regulated forest guards, all anchored on accountability, is critical to effectively addressing terrorism, banditry, and related security challenges.

𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

The new year marks the beginning of a more robust phase of economic growth, with tangible improvements in the lives of our people. We will accelerate the implementation of the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, aiming to bring at least 10 million Nigerians into productive economic activity by empowering at least 1,000 people in each of the 8,809 wards across the country.

Through agriculture, trade, food processing, and mining, we will stimulate local economies and expand grassroots opportunities. We will also continue to invest in modernising Nigeria’s infrastructure – roads, power, ports, railways, airports, pipelines, healthcare, education, and agriculture to strengthen food security and improve quality of life. All ongoing projects will continue without interruption.

𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲

To achieve our objectives in 2026, we must all play our part. Nation-building is a shared responsibility. We must stand together in unity and purpose, uphold patriotism, and serve our country with honour and integrity in our respective roles. Let us resolve to be better citizens, better neighbours, and better stewards of our nation.

Fellow Nigerians, I wish you all a peaceful, productive, and prosperous New Year. May God continue to bless and protect our beloved country,
keep our troops safe and destroy the enemies bent on disrupting our national peace, security and stability.

Happy New Year to you all.

BREAKING: Peter Obi Joins ADC

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party backed by a coalition of political interests.

The former Anambra State governor announced his decision on Tuesday during a gathering at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu.
Speaking at the event, Obi said the move was driven by a renewed sense of purpose and optimism ahead of the next political cycle.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” he said.
He also pledged to oppose electoral malpractice, stressing that efforts would be made to “resist election rigging by every lawful means” in the 2027 polls.

I once cleaned a dirty aircraft toilet as governor — Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has said effective leadership in Nigeria must be driven by personal example, especially in tackling the country’s security challenges.

Obi made the remark on Sunday while responding to questions from Nigerians during an interactive session on X Space, where he stressed that leaders must be willing to demonstrate the values they expect from others.

Kano Gov Yusuf Reportedly Set to Dump NNPP for APC, Deputy Faces Impeachment

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State is reportedly planning to defect from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the first week of January.

According to Daily Nigerian, the governor currently has firm control of 25 out of the 27 NNPP members in the Kano State House of Assembly, following the deaths of two lawmakers. The planned defection is said to be proceeding without the support of former Kano State governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who has reportedly opposed the move.

Meanwhile, developments within the state government suggest that Governor Yusuf has begun moves to remove his deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam, through impeachment. The reported plan is aimed at paving the way for Murtala Sule-Garo, the APC’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 election, to take over as deputy governor.

The unfolding political developments have sparked debate among political stakeholders in Kano State, as alignments continue to shift ahead of future electoral contests.

BREAKING: President Donald Trump orders deadly strike against ISIS in north-west Nigeria

US President Donald Trump has ordered military strike on members of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in northern Nigeria.

Trump announced the strike in a Truth Social post on Thursday night.

Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!

I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.

The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper.

May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.

DONALD J. TRUMP

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

Chief of Staff Gbajabiamila not replaced by Muri-Okunola

The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to a viral falsehood circulating on social media suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

There is absolutely no truth to this story. We advise Nigerians to disregard it entirely.

The Chief of Staff remains in his position. The Principal Private Secretary likewise remains in his role. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff.

The viral claim is a fabrication by mischievous purveyors of fake news whose sole aim is to create disharmony within the government.

We reiterate that news media should always verify their information before publishing or sharing on social media.

BREAKING: INEC rejects Makinde-backed PDP NWC, cites pending court cases

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined to recognise the national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and led by Kabiru Turaki.

INEC said its decision was based on the existence of multiple court cases and conflicting judicial pronouncements relating to the party’s leadership, noting that the matter remains unresolved in the courts.

US President Donald Trump has recalled Richard Mills, the United States ambassador to Nigeria, as part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle affecting American missions worldwide.

The recall is said to be one of several changes across more than two dozen countries, with African nations bearing the brunt of the shake-up.
