As a business owner who builds alone, you need to see this movie, it’s on Netflix and it’s a true story.
Here are 12 things I learned from this series.
1.) Problem as a business idea: You see Madam C.J Walker was suffering from hair loss and she was so poor, and there was a seemingly Good Samaritan who traded her hair treatments for laundry.
You scratch my back, I scratch your back kind of thing.
Then , she realized something that takes us to
2.) The Good Selling Attitude: She saw an opportunity to help her helper sell her hair products, but the helper loooked at her in disgust and said no.
Then, she wanted to prove her helper wrong, she took the hair products and guess what? She sold them.
Returned the money to her helper and her helper tell her wetin no good.
I noticed something when she was talking to the women and that takes us to
3.) The Art of presentation using storytelling, you tell good stories when you touch the problem that affects the people, with the solution right in your hand.
She’s a good storyteller.
4.) Competition and Dominance: You know why nobody knows what makes Coke , Coke? Because everyone will produce coke the next day.
Because nobody knows what makes coke , they produce what seems like coke.
That’s the case of Madam C.J Walker , but she produced something even better, and because she is a great storyteller, she defeated her competitor and dominated the market.
5.) Discrimination in business, sure do exist!
6.) Dreaming Big is important, because it can come to pass, she dreamt of a factory and she got it.
7.) Brand Purpose is the pillar of a successful brand, because she wanted to make women feel beautiful and that was all she needed and all that served as a vehicle to pursue that dream.
8.) Family as a business model, passing the mantle to the next generation is one of the sustainable ways of building legacy.
9.) Pe*******on and Expansion: Simply put “Think GROWTH at all times “.
10.) Strangers can be your cheerleader 📣, stop thinking your friends will support you.
11.) If your business is about the good of women , trust them enough to rally around you.
12.) The power of a personalised Brand Name and it’s called MADAM C. J WALKER!
Don’t ask me how she got the name, some divorce can lead to something good, the name is from her third husband Charles Joseph Walker.
Final take on this, You can be self made, but when you seek growth and expansion, you will need PEOPE!
