The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday revealed that it rejected an offer to increase the price of petroleum products during the recent minimum wage negotiations with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

Instead, the union accepted the N70,000 minimum wage proposal. NLC President Joe Ajaero disclosed this during an interview on Arise Television's Morning Show programme.

He explained that the union had initially demanded an N250,000 minimum wage but settled for N70,000 after the government declined to meet their demand.

However, Ajaero expressed disappointment that despite the agreement, the government has increased the price of petroleum products, causing more hardship for Nigerians.

The Dangote Group, owner of the Dangote Refinery, is set to begin crude oil production in the fourth quarter of 2024, according to a report by S&P Global Commodity Insights.

The company will start production at its two Nigerian oil assets, Oil Mining Leases 71 and 72, in the Niger Delta, with an initial output of 20,000 barrels per day. This will increase in the first quarter of 2025.

Dangote is currently seeking a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel with a capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude.

The company holds an 85% stake in West African E&P Venture, which has a 45% working interest in the two blocks, alongside the Nigerian National Petroleum Company's 55% stake.

The licenses are located in the shallow water of the Niger Delta, containing the Kalaekule and Koronama oilfields.
