To prevent a Plaster of Paris (POP) ceiling from falling, ensure proper installation by hiring experienced professionals and using high-quality materials like steel wire for attachment, not binding wire. Proper structural support during construction, such as embedding iron rods or anchor bolts in the slab, is crucial. Address water leaks immediately, avoid overloading the ceiling with heavy fixtures, and allow sufficient drying and curing time. Regular maintenance and inspection for minor damages are also important to catch issues before they become critical.
During Installation
1. Hire Experienced Professionals:
Choose skilled and experienced installers who understand proper design, construction, and attachment techniques for POP ceilings.
2. Use High-Quality Materials:
Ensure the use of strong steel wire for attaching the POP ceiling to the structural ceiling, rather than low-quality binding wire that can rust and break.
3. Incorporate Structural Support:
During the structural work, drop iron rods at regular intervals from the concrete slab to provide strong support points for the POP ceiling to grip onto.
4. Ensure Proper Frame Installation:
Use anchor bolts to secure the ceiling frame to the structural ceiling, ensuring the frame is installed at even distances.

If using gypsum boards on a frame, ensure they are attached with proper screws, not nails, for a more secure hold.
After Installation & Ongoing Maintenance
1. Prevent Water Leaks:
Immediately repair any water leaks from the structural ceiling above, as water can weaken the POP and make it heavier, leading to collapse.
2. Manage Heavy Fixtures:
Do not hang heavy fixtures like chandeliers directly from the POP ceiling. Instead, attach them to the structural ceiling or consult an installer for proper load-bearing designs.
3. Allow Proper Drying:
Ensure the POP mixture is properly dried and cured before painting or installing heavy fixtures to give it sufficient strength.
4. Conduct Regular Inspections:
Periodically inspect the ceiling for minor issues like cracks or discoloration, which can indicate underlying problems that need immediate attention.
