PDP Mourns Immediate Past President Muhammadu Buhari’s Death

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received with deep sadness the news of the death of immediate past President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR in a hospital in London, United Kingdom.

Former President Buhari was a courageous leader and highly disciplined military officer who dedicated his life towards the service of the nation.

The departed former President will be remembered by Nigerians for his roles and policies in government as Governor of Borno State, Federal Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), Military Head of State and later as democratically elected President.

The PDP commiserates with late President Buhari’s widow, Hajia Aisha Buhari and the entire Buhari family; the Federal Government, the Nigeria Army, the government and people of Katsina State and the Daura Emirate for this national loss and prays to the Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal repose.

*Communique Issued at the end of Meeting of the South West Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Held Today, Friday, 11th July, 2025 at Olusoji Adagunodo South West PDP Zonal Secretariat, Ibadan, Oyo State.*

The South West Zonal Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after extensive deliberations on issues of urgent importance to the Party in the South West Zone and at the national level unanimously resolves as follows;

1. The Caucus reaffirms its unwavering loyalty to the PDP and commitment to the unity, stability, progress and success of the Party at all levels in the Zone and across the country.

2. The Caucus commends and appreciates the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke and other leaders of the PDP in the Zone for their untiring roles in ensuring the stability and growth of the PDP as the prominent political Party in the South West.

3. The Caucus reaffirms that the PDP in South West is intact and urges all Organs and relevant bodies of the Party to remain focused and continue to work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the scheduled National Convention to further strengthen and reposition the PDP for the task ahead.

4. The Caucus states that it is not part of the reported Coalition and urges all members of the PDP to remain united, steadfast and continue to stand behind our leaders in the Zone in navigating through all issues at the zonal and national levels.

5. The Caucus however supports the position of the National Working Committee (NWC) that our Party remains open to working with other well-meaning like-minded citizens in the collective effort to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

6. The Caucus resolves to intensify efforts to ensure the victory of our great Party in the upcoming bye-elections in Oyo and Ogun States as well as Local Government Council election in Lagos State. The Caucus is confident that the PDP as a Party of choice in the South West and Nigeria at large will record sweeping victory in the coming elections.

7. The Caucus demands that the Federal Government immediately release the withheld Osun State Local Government Allocation. The withholding of the Osun State Local Government Allocation by the Federal Government is unconstitutional, unwarranted and a violation of the rights and wellbeing of the people of Osun State.

8. The Caucus expresses very serious concern over the worsening insecurity and economic hardship in the country under the APC administration. The Caucus reechoes the declaration of Governor Makinde that the 2027 election will be between Nigerians and the APC, with Nigerians ultimately triumphing under the banner of the PDP.

9. The Caucus again commends Governor Makinde and Governor Adeleke for their people-oriented leadership in ensuring peace, stability, security and infrastructural development in the South West Zone.

10. The Caucus urges Nigerians not to lose hope but remain resolute and continue to rally with the PDP as our Party leads the charge to rescue our nation from the misrule of the APC.

PDP SOUTH WEST ZONAL CAUCUS MEETING:

GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE TO COALITION POLITICIANS: “YOU CAN’T ABANDON YOUR HOUSE BECAUSE OF A LEAKING ROOF”

July 11, 2025

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to remain steadfast and committed to the shared vision of progress, unity and development.

He urged other opposition politicians that are in the coalition, especially members of the PDP, to return to the Party, likening their alliance as people who abandoned a house due to internal challenges.

Speaking at the end of the Party’s South West Zonal Caucus meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Governor emphasized unity, urging coalition members to address issues collaboratively rather than leaving due to temporary setbacks.

“You can’t abandon your house because of a leaking roof,” Governor Makinde declared. He added that the PDP is built on solid foundations, and like any structure, it may face wear and tear. It is the responsibility of all Party members to fix the leaks, strengthen the foundation, and keep the house standing for the people of this country.

Governor Makinde acknowledged the sacrifices of all Party members and leaders and reaffirmed his commitment to working together with other critical stakeholders in the Party towards the success of the PDP in future elections. “Let us fix the roof together and keep this house strong for the future,” Governor Makinde concluded.
