Court Fines Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan ₦5m for Contempt Over Facebook Post

The Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt and fined her ₦5 million over a Facebook post directed at Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Justice Binta Nyako, who delivered the ruling on Friday, said the senator v+olated a standing court order that barred all parties from commenting on an ongoing case regarding her suspension from the Senate.

The controversy stemmed from a satirical apology Akpoti-Uduaghan posted on April 27, 2025, which Akpabio argued was a breach of the gag order. His lawyers filed a contempt application, claiming the post was related to the suspension case.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team denied this, stating the post concerned unrelated allegations of s+x¥al hara§§ment against Akpabio. But the judge disagreed, ruling that the post was connected to the court matter at hand.

As part of the punishment, the court ordered the senator to issue a public apology in two national newspapers and on her page within seven days, in addition to paying the ₦5 million fine.
