Senate Approves Ten New Institutions

The Senate on Wednesday approved the establishment of 10 new higher institutions across the country.

The resolution was made after the federal lawmakers adopted the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund.

The committee’s chairman, Jibrin Barau, presented the report for consideration.

The 10 new higher institutions approved by the Senate include one polytechnic to be located in the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari, Daura in Katsina State.

The federal lawmakers agreed that the establishment of the institutions would open up the education space in the country.

They also expressed the belief that the step would assist the country to fight illiteracy.

The Senate also said that the approval of the establishment of the institutions was in line with the policy to establish polytechnics across the states.

The approved institutions include Federal Polytechnic, Kabo; Federal Polytechnic Daura; Federal University of Education, Aguleri; National Institute of Construction Technology and Management and Federal Polytechnic, Ikom.

Others are Federal College of Education(Technical) Arochukwu, Abia State; Federal Polytechnic Langtang, Plateau State; Federal College of Education, Usugbenu-Irua; Federal University of Technology, Manchok and Federal Polytechnic Kwale, Delta State.

Buhari reacts to emergence of new National Assembly leaders

Abuja, Nigeria, 9 June 2015: President Muhammadu Buhari has noted the outcome of the just-concluded election of leaders of the National Assembly.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) said the president would rather that the process of electing the leaders as initiated and concluded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) had been followed. Nonetheless the President took the view that a constitutional process has somewhat occurred.

"President Buhari had said in an earlier statement that he did not have any preferred candidate for the Senate and the House of Representatives, and that he was willing to work with whoever the lawmakers elected," Adesina said. "That sentiment still stands. Though he would have preferred the new leaders to have emerged through the process established by the party”.

Adesina stressed that the stability of our constitutional order and overall interest of the common man were uppermost on the President's mind, as far as the National Assembly elections were concerned.

The President called on all the elected representatives of the people to focus on the enormous task of bringing enduring positive change to the lives of Nigerians.

Your Mouth
A recent research has shown that many people usually unconsciously leave their mouth open when they are supposed to be closed.

The research which was conducted by a team known as was on a population of 1800 across 16 countries. The study showed that, among adults, only 36% make conscious efforts to keep their lips sealed whenever the mouth is not in use. However, the self conscious effort was greatly low among children & youths.

The study further revealed that this unconscious practice of leaving the mouth open was a major contributing factor responsible for the spread & contacting of air borne & respiratory diseases.
