Hennis Business Health & Process Diagnostic.

Every Hennis Business Consulting engagement begins with a structured Business Health & Process Diagnostic designed to examine the four foundations of sustainable growth:
Clarity.
Structure.
Capital.
Scale.

Before we recommend solutions, we seek to understand the business—its numbers, people, processes, customers, systems, constraints and ambitions.

Because you don't solve what you haven't properly diagnosed.

GOLF BALLS - The Important Stuff.

I came across a simple illustration that made me think about both life and business. Imagine a glass jar. You have golf balls, pebbles and sand.

The GOLF BALLS represent what truly matters: family, health, relationships, purpose, faith and the dreams we are building toward.

The PEBBLES represent important responsibilities — our businesses, careers, jobs, homes and finances.

The SAND represents everything else — emails, notifications, meetings, distractions, social media and the endless little things competing for our attention.

Here is the lesson:

If you put the sand in first, you may leave no room for the golf balls. I see the same thing happen in business.

📍We become so busy chasing sales that we neglect strategy.
📍We focus on revenue but forget profitability.
📍We keep putting out daily fires instead of building systems.
📍We become so occupied working in the business that we have little time to work on the business.

And sometimes, after giving the business our best hours, we have very little left for the people and things that made us want success in the first place.

Being busy is not the same as making progress so this Monday, I'm reminding us to Put the GOLF BALLS FIRST.

Identify what truly matters.
Give it your best time and attention.
Then arrange the pebbles around it.
Let the sand fill the remaining spaces.

In business, PRIORITIES determine STRATEGY, and STRATEGY determines where your RESOURCES go.

So before you fill your calendar this week, ask yourself, What are my golf balls?

Because if you don't deliberately prioritize what matters most, the urgent things will happily take up all the space.

Prioritize right. Build intentionally. Live purposefully.

Happy Monday!

THE PROJECT CONSTRAINTS: The Reality PMs Must Manage.

Every project starts the same way: fast, world-class, cheap, everything included. Then reality hits.

Project management runs on three constraints — TIME, COST, SCOPE — and they're linked. Speed it up, and cost usually rises. Cut the budget, and scope or timeline gives. Add more deliverables, and you'll need more time and money.

So the job isn't "get it all done." It's making deliberate trade-offs. The real question isn't "can we do everything?" But it's "what matters most, given our resources?"
Strong project leaders:
📌 Define scope clearly
📌 Set realistic timelines
📌 Budget on reality, not optimism
📌 Spot constraints early
📌 Communicate trade-offs before they become crises
📌 Manage stakeholder expectations
📌 Protect the project's core objectives

The bigger lesson: constraints aren't just obstacles, they're decision-making tools. A tight budget forces prioritization. A tight deadline sharpens focus. A defined scope kills unnecessary complexity.

The problem isn't having constraints. It's ignoring them. Every project is a resource allocation decision. Know your constraints, prioritize, make trade-offs consciously — then execute.

Successful projects don't come from doing everything. They come from knowing what must happen, and managing everything else around it.

RELATIONSHIP CAPITAL: The Politics of the Workplace.

Sometimes, the person who gets the opportunity isn't the person with the best CV. Sometimes, it's the person somebody knows, trusts and remembers.

Think about it.

You send an email and get no response. You submit a proposal and hear nothing. You need a favour, a recommendation, an introduction or simply someone to give you a chance.

Then someone else walks in and says: "I know this person. Let's give him a chance."

Why? RELATIONSHIP CAPITAL!

And this is where the little things matter.
📍A phone call to check on someone.
📍Remembering a birthday.
📍Having lunch with a colleague.
📍Congratulating someone on a promotion.
📍Showing genuine interest in people when you don't need anything from them.
📍Even that simple bottle of wine you bought for someone—not because you wanted to buy their favour, but because you wanted to appreciate the relationship.

The wine isn't the magic. The relationship is.

We sometimes pretend WORKPLACE POLITICS doesn't exist. It does, but workplace politics isn't always manipulation and backstabbing.

Sometimes it's simply understanding that PEOPLE do BUSINESS with people they TRUST.

📍Your COMPETENCE may get you NOTICED.
📍Your PERFORMANCE may get you PROMOTED.

But your RELATIONSHIPS can determine who THINKS of you when the next opportunity comes.

So here's the question:

If all your qualifications disappeared tomorrow, how much relationship capital would you still have?

BUILD RELATIONSHIPS.

Not because you need something today but build them because PEOPLE MATTER.

And when the day comes that you need that bottle of wine... make sure there is already a relationship behind it.

Relationship Capital is real.
The Power of a Bottle of Wine is real

Strategy Lessons from Jacob of the Bible. Part 7 of 7.
ONE GOOD DEAL WILL NOT MAKE YOU WEALTHY - Build a System not Just a Business.

Lastly, Jacob's story reminds us of something many entrepreneurs discover much later, that, Wealth is usually built through accumulation, not one spectacular event.

📍One customer doesn't make a company.
📍One profitable month doesn't make a wealthy entrepreneur.
📍One investment doesn't create financial independence.
📍One successful product doesn't guarantee sustainability.

What matters is what happens repeatedly - Strategy, Ex*****on, Profit, Reinvestment, Asset accumulation, Systems, Scale, and Repeat.

That's how value compounds.

Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs build businesses that depend completely on them.

✍🏾If they stop working, revenue stops.
✍🏾If they stop selling, cash stops.
✍🏾If they stop managing, everything starts falling apart.

That's not a scalable business. That is a demanding job disguised as entrepreneurship.

The real question should be: "What systems am I building today that can continue creating value tomorrow?"

📍Can your business operate without you being involved in every transaction?
📍Can your processes be documented?
📍Can your team execute without constant supervision?
📍Can your financial records tell you exactly what is happening?
📍Can your brand generate demand?
📍Can your assets generate income?
📍Can your profits be systematically reinvested?

That's the journey from self-employment to enterprise and eventually from enterprise to wealth.

Don't just build something that makes money. Build something that can compound value.

Because entrepreneurship isn't simply about creating income. It is about building an economic engine capable of producing, preserving and multiplying value over time.
