Established and Actual Facts on the death of Late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Oluwemimo
1. The deceased was married to Mr. Damilola Oluwemimo
2. The marriage produced a child
3. The marriage has been peaceful and Damilola clearly states that there was no violence
4. At the time of her sad passing the couple were not quarreling as they shared messages that night while he was out showing plans to spend the next day together.
5. On 17th of May 2024 while Damilola headed out to the club with his friends, he was chatting with his wife in the night till she slept off, it is normal for her to sleep uninterrupted for 6 to 7 hours after taking her drugs, when he tried to call her in the morning she did not pick, he alerted his neighbors to check up on her and gave them consent to break the door, his neighbours informed him that she was unresponsive and he rushed home to meet his wife dead on the 18th of May 2024. Both neighbors were at the station and force headquarters to give their statement confirming this happened.
6. Both families were informed and his late wife's family did not take the news well. They alleged that he killed her , made allegations of domestic violence and rightly reported the matter to the Police.
7. The Police arrested Damilola and commenced investigation immediately.
8. Police investigation showed that he was not in the vicinity at the time of his wife's death and as such could not have be@ten her to d3ath as alleged. Both parties agreed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the remote and immediate causes of her de@th.
9. Both parties were asked by the police to agree on where the autopsy should be conducted. While Damilola, his family and Lawyer suggested Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, The Family of his late wife insisted on FMC Abuja. Gwagwalada was suggested by the Police authorities cos the Autopsy Facilities in FMC was undergoing repairs at that time ( 28th of May ) so Autopsy couldn't be done in FMC. Note that Damilola on his part has paid for the Autopsy. As Autopsies are conducted, the family has the right to pay for their own Pathologist if they have any objections to the one paid for by Damilola.
10. Sadly the family of his late wife have been elusive on setting a date to conduct the autopsy till the Police Commissioner insisted it must be done yesterday 2nd July
11. Seeing that he had no direct link to physical death of his wife, and as an autopsy had been agreed on, Damilola was granted bail by the Police pending the autopsy.
12. Her family who had refused before today to commit to the autopsy that will scientifically ascertain remote and immediate causes of their daughter's death have chosen to run to the media, activists and the Hon Minister of women affairs who in her concern to see Justice done has visited the FCT Police Commissioner, where they both agreed to ensure an autopsy is conducted which has been done today. The question that begs answers is why the family is refusing to wait for the findings of the autopsy but choosing to run a social media trial instead!
13. It is while awaiting the the autopsy that was scheduled for today that the family went to social media to claim their daughter was b3aten to death.
14. While not minimizing the pain of their loss, it will only be fair to await the results of the autopsy before running all sorts of narratives. An autopsy will show if there was indeed domestic violence, it will also show the direct cause of d3ath. The family is aware of their late daughters medical condition which her husband knew of and supported her through various crisis.
15. An attempt was made at dialogue with the family of the deceased but was put off due to some frivolous demands( the list of demands is attached)including full custody of the child, Damilola has chosen instead to engage the right legal process which starts with an autopsy
16. The autopsy was finally carried out yesterday the 2nd of July and we await the results of the autopsy.
17. While not being pre-emptive of the results of the autopsy, we appeal that the public should ask questions when such allegations are made. The law provides for the presumption of innocence till proven guilty because damage done from one sided narratives without full details cannot be undone.
