Our family was overjoyed when we heard that our cousin sister was getting married even in her age. We had always known her as a kind and gentle soul, and we were thrilled to see her find happiness. So, on March 1st, we all traveled home to attend her traditional marriage ceremony. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and celebration.
However, not everyone was pleased with the union. Some of our relatives had expressed concerns about the groom, whom we didn't know well. They felt that he was not the right man for our cousin sister, but her siblings reassured us that he was a good person.
After the festivities, the newlyweds returned to Aba, and we thought that all was well. But little did we know, a sinister reality was unfolding. The groom, driven by dark intentions, had been planning to use our cousin sister for a twisted ritual. He believed that her innocence and purity made her the perfect victim.
He began to subject her to physical and emotional abuse, isolating her from our family's reach. He would beat her, starve her, and lock her up, trying to weaken her spirit. He even blocked her siblings from contacting her, ignoring their calls and messages.
But our cousin sister's faith remained unshaken. She knew that she was a child of God, raised in the faith of the Tabernacle Congregation Church. She believed that her God was a living God, who would not let her be harmed.
One day, while her husband was performing one of his twisted rituals, our cousin sister overheard him say, "I will cut off all her private parts and burn them. I will kill her." But unknown to him, she understood English.
She knew that she had to escape, but she was trapped. So, she waited for the right moment to reveal the truth.
That moment came in June, when her siblings encountered her husband at church. They were shocked to see her looking pale and weak, and they knew something was wrong. They asked her what was happening, but she just said, "If it's the will of God, so be it."
Determined to uncover the truth, her siblings visited her at her husband's house. There, they found her looking like a walking dead. She finally revealed the horrific details of her abuse, including the midnight incantations, the gruesome threats, and the barbaric ritual with the bird's blood.
As she watched in horror, her husband sprinkled the bird's blood all over the house, chanting incantations to weaken her spirit. But our cousin sister, fueled by her unwavering faith, found the strength to speak out.
"I am the daughter of God," she declared, her voice firm and resolute. "A child who was born and raised in the Tabernacle Congregation Church. The God I serve is a living God, and He won't let you harm me."
But her face kept appearing to us, haunting our dreams and making us uncomfortable. We knew we had to act, so we decided to visit her and her husband.
On our way, we met her looking like a co**se, her body weak and her spirit crushed. We knew we had to act fast. We went to confront the husband, determined to put an end to the abuse. We also wanted to take her clothes so she could stay with us for the meantime, away from the toxic environment.
When we arrived, the husband callously declared, "The marriage is over." We didn't argue with him; we just told him, "She wasn't picked from the roadside, so you should come and tell her people what happened." We wanted him to take responsibility for his actions and face the consequences.
With that, we took our sister away from the hellhole, determined to help her heal and rebuild her life. The experience had left her scarred, but we were determined to be her rock, her support system, and her safe haven.
