President Tinubu's refusal to attend the UNGA, contrary to the earlier announcement by the Presidency, came just a few days after the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, signed an Executive Order designating Foreign Drug Cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organisations, and authorising massive arrests, as well as the use of lethal Military force against them.

"Atiku Is For The People" global movement notes that in July 2026, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, had confidently told State House Correspondents, that President Tinubu had "generously agreed to attend the UNGA meeting", and would be seated "very close to Donald Trump in the front row".

However, two months later, the Presidency announced that Vice President Kashim Shettima would lead Nigeria's Delegation instead.

The sudden u-turn has sparked outrage across Facebook, Instagram, X and Threads.

A Facebook user wrote: "Nnaa!! If this man no go that meeting, that means his conscience no clear, make Nigerians no vote him come January 16, 2027."

Another wrote: "If e sure for him, make he travel. Na that time we go know say e get mind."

"If he does not attend, it means something is fishy. FBI should do the needful", a Commenter on Instagram said.

On X, a user posted: "Thought they said he will be sitting next to Trump? Now he is afraid to travel, because Trump signed that Executive Order?"

Another viral comment read: "Let him go and explain his drug case to the world. Nigeria deserves better than a President who is afraid of New York."

"This is not about APC or PDP, this is about Nigeria's image. The President must attend the UNGA or forget 2027", another user added.

While a few supporters claimed that the President is focusing on domestic issues and 2027 election preparations, the overwhelming majority of Nigerians insist that President Tinubu must appear in person at the UNGA, to defend Nigeria's interests and clear the air over renewed calls for the FBI to release unredacted records related to his 1993 civil forfeiture case, in Chicago, or kiss the 2027 Presidency a final goodbye.

The protest, which erupted in Nyanya, a major suburb and commuter gateway into the nation's capital city, saw thousands of demonstrators gather to express their frustration over the severe economic hardship, rising cost of living and insecurity, under the administration of President Tinubu.

Chanting slogans like: "Tinubu Must Go", and carrying placards, the protesters lamented that life has become unbearable for ordinary Nigerians under President Tinubu. Many decried the over 40 percent food inflation, petrol now selling above N1,450 per litre, and Electricity tariffs that have increased by over 300 percent.

Eyewitness videos circulating on the social media, show crowds blocking sections of the Nyanya-Mararaba road, with voices shouting that Nigerians are tired and can no longer cope.

This is coming barely days after similar protests rocked Lagos, on September 15, where Residents flooded the Streets, demanding change, and another demonstration on September 17, at the Supreme Court axis, in Abuja.

The development has raised questions about the whereabouts of the FCT Minister, who has been very vocal on political matters, but has remained silent as anger grows in the Territory he superintends.

Recall, that Wike had repeatedly vowed to deliver the FCT for President Tinubu, in the 2027 elections, despite the President losing Abuja, in 2023. With inflation biting harder and 34.8 million Nigerians now food insecure, many Abuja Residents say that the Minister's promise rings hollow.

As at Press time, Security Operatives were seen monitoring the protest in Nyanya, to prevent a breakdown of Law and Order, while the protesters vowed to continue, until their voices are heard.

The statement is a clear confirmation that President Tinubu and his Team are sitting in air-conditioned offices, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, in Abuja, churning out imaginary statistics, without knowing what is truly happening on the streets of Nigeria.

Barely 24 hours after the 2027 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, held a World Press Conference, in Abuja, calling for urgent measures to alleviate the sufferings of the Nigerian masses, including the immediate reduction of petrol and diesel prices, as well as Electricity tariffs, President Tinubu's reaction is to give Nigerians a lecture on CNG buses that Nigerians cannot even see with their eyes.

We wish to however, debunk this pack of lies with facts.

President Tinubu claimed that Borno State Commuters pay N50 to N100, and Kaduna State buses are free. This is false. As at today, September 19, 2026, transport fare from Baga Road to Monday Market, in Maiduguri, is N700. In Kaduna, citizens still pay N900 from Kawo to Central Market. The so-called free buses are only four buses used for photo ops during APC events. Where are the 100 buses Mr. President?

The President claimed that Lagos-Ibadan fare dropped from N8,000 to N3,200. Kindly go to Iwo Road Motor Park today. Lagos-Ibadan is N10,000 to N12,000. Adamawa, Yola to Mubi is N12,000, and not N4,000. Enugu to Nsukka is N4,000, and not N1,500. Plateau, Jos to Bukuru is N800, not N200.

He also claimed that the NURTW Abuja routes have 40 percent reduction - Area 1 to Gwagwalada is N900, Nyanya N420, Wuse N240. This is a blatant lie. This morning, Commuters in Nyanya, paid N1,200 to Wuse, and Gwagwalada to Area 1 is N2,500. The NURTW itself has denied any such partnership.

President Tinubu bragged about 120,000 converted vehicles, 400 Conversion Centres and 90 Refuelling Stations. Nigeria has over 12 million vehicles. 120,000 is less than 1 percent of that number; and where are the 90 Stations? There are only 21 functional CNG Stations in the entire country, according to NMDPRA data; with 80 percent in Lagos and Abuja. How will a Farmer in Zamfara State or Kebbi State, access the CNG? Conversion cost is N800,000 to N1.2 million. How can a Keke Driver who cannot afford food, pay for that?

President Tinubu stated further that his answer cannot be to return to petrol subsidy. However, Atiku never asked for a return to the old corrupt subsidy regime. Atiku asked for targeted intervention, to crash energy costs, by removing the multiple taxes, bridging bottlenecks and monopoly in importation, that have pushed petrol above N1,450 and diesel above N2,000 today. Under Atiku as Vice President, petrol was N65 per litre, and we had functioning Refineries across the country. Today, under President Tinubu, after spending over $20 billion on Refinery rehabilitation and Dangote Refinery, Nigerians are paying more than ever for petrol

What Nigerians need is not grammar on CNG. Nigerians need immediate reduction in petrol price to N500 per litre, as Atiku proposed; reduction in Electricity tariff that was increased by over 300 percent; and real support for Farmers.

President Tinubu must have suffered from serious memory loss, before releasing that unpresidential statement. He has forgotten that 34.8 million Nigerians are food insecure, according to the Global Report on Food Crisis; and 65 percent of Nigerian households cannot afford nutritious meals.

The President must know that CNG buses on paper cannot feed a hungry nation.

Recall, that on July 15, 2026, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, briefed State House Correspondents, after meeting with President Tinubu, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, in Abuja, and confidently announced that the President would be in New York, for the UNGA.

He said that President Tinubu had "generously agreed to attend the UNGA meeting", and would deliver an address on his reforms, slated for 10:45am, New York time, as well as side events on Power, Education and Hospital management.

Asked about President Trump, Ibrahim was emphatic about proximity, saying exactly: "I can tell you clearly that President Tinubu will be sitting very close to Donald Trump, in the front row of the United Nations General Assembly. Do not ask me how that was arranged, but he will be sitting."

Two months later, the Presidency announced that President Tinubu would no longer travel to New York, without giving any tangible reason as to why; but instead, revealed that Vice President Kashim Shettima will now lead Nigeria's Delegation to the USA, for the ongoing UNGA.

What changed?

The reversal came just a few days after President Trump signed an Executive Order declaring Cartels as an unusual and extraordinary threat to National Security, under a National Emergency; opening the door for them to be targeted with lethal force by the US Military. Anyone providing material support, now faces severe penalties. Since then, the President Trump administration has carried out over 20 strikes on suspected drug vessels, in the Caribbean and Pacific.

The 2027 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has on Saturday, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu owes Nigerians an explanation for his reported sudden withdrawal from attending the 81st United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, in New York, United States of America, USA, after secretly spending $9 million of Nigerian Taxpayers' funds on a foreign Lobbying Firm, to attempt to fix his alleged drug-stained image to American Federal Government Officials.

Atiku spoke in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe.

According to him: "The reported decision by President Bola Tinubu to stay away from the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, is becoming harder to dismiss as an ordinary change of travel plans."

He stated that full context is important.

"For months, the Tinubu administration has spent enormous political and financial capital trying to repair its standing in Washington. The Federal Government entered into a $9 million lobbying arrangement aimed partly at countering damaging narratives about Nigeria, while senior officials, including NSA Nuhu Ribadu, were deployed for sustained engagements with the American establishment", Atiku noted.

The ADC Presidential Candidate recalled that the President Tinubu Federal Government also advertised a proposed Nigeria-US Mining Agreement expected to be advanced around the UNGA, adding that: "Then came the retreat."

Atiku stated that what is hanging over the situation, is the unresolved Freedom of Information Act, FOIA, litigation against President Tinubu, in United States District Court.

His words: "And hanging over all of this is the unresolved FOIA litigation seeking the release of US law-enforcement records concerning President Tinubu.

"Tinubu has filed litigation to block the release of those documents. It is, however, not a trivial political inconvenience for a government seeking privileged access to a Trump administration that has elevated the destruction of drug-trafficking organisations and transnational cartels into a major national-security priority."

Atiku also referenced the current USA Drug Policy, stating that: "The White House's own 2026 National Drug Control Strategy speaks of dismantling cartels, pursuing foreign narcotics networks, prosecuting money launderers and disrupting international drug supply chains."

He also stressed that Nigerians are entitled to answers from President Tinubu.

He said: "So Nigerians are entitled to ask some uncomfortable questions.

"After the millions spent on lobbying, the diplomatic ground-softening and the public boasting about deals supposedly ready for signature, why is President Tinubu reportedly staying away from UNGA? What happened between the celebration and the cancellation? Were the meetings the Presidency expected in New York and Washington actually secured? Is the much-advertised mining arrangement proceeding as announced? And, most importantly, has the controversy surrounding the outstanding US law-enforcement records particularly the ones linking the President to alleged he**in trafficking become an obstacle to the kind of high-level political embrace the Tinubu administration desperately wants from Washington?"

Atiku stated that the situation presents awkward optics for the President Tinubu administration.

He concluded: "The optics are unmistakably awkward: Tinubu government spending heavily to improve its image in Washington at precisely the moment an American administration is intensifying its war against international narcotics networks, while litigation continues over American law-enforcement records concerning the Nigerian President. That is the contradiction the Presidency cannot lobby away.

"Instead of propaganda, Nigerians deserve disclosure. Instead of expensive image laundering, let the records speak. And instead of telling Nigerians that everything is normal, the Presidency should explain why, after all the lobbying, all the diplomatic exertions and all the advance celebration of American deals, the President is reportedly no longer going where all that groundwork was supposed to matter most."

The 2027 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has on Friday, challenged President Bola Tinubu and his All Progressives Congress, APC, to produce evidence from the International Criminal Court, ICC, Tribunal award, where he was found to have collected a bribe in the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project dispute.

Atiku was reacting to the recent allegation linking him to a $500,000 payment to his former wife, Jennifer Douglas, during negotiations for the Mambilla contract.

In a statement reacting to the allegation, he said that the Tribunal never found that he collected a bribe, abused his Office as Vice President of Nigeria, or participated in a corrupt conspiracy, to procure the contract for Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited.

According to the details from the final award of the three-member ICC Tribunal, in Paris, the Tribunal examined a $500,000 transfer made on January 30, 2003, through China Castle Investments Limited, an offshore Company controlled by Sunrise Promoter, Leno Adesanya, into Jennifer Douglas' Citibank Account, in the United States of America, USA.

Adesanya told the Tribunal that the payment was part of a foreign-exchange transaction carried out for Atiku.

The Tribunal however, rejected Adesanya’s explanation, citing the absence of documents showing the underlying naira payment, exchange rate, instructions from Atiku or his Aides.

The Tribunal did not find that Atiku personally received a bribe. Atiku was not a party to the Arbitration, and did not testify before the Tribunal at any point, whatsoever.

Atiku therefore, challenged the President Bola Tinubu APC and its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, to produce the exact portion of the award, where it was held that he collected a $500,000 bribe to award the Mambilla contract to Sunrise.

The ICC Tribunal had on September 17, 2026, ruled in favour of Nigeria, dismissing Sunrise’s $2.35 billion claims, and ordering Sunrise and Adesanya to reimburse Nigeria 75 percent of its legal costs.

The 2027 Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has on Friday, exposed President Bola Tinubu's very deceptive election campaign strategy, in a desperate attempt to win the 2027 Presidential election, by using the Lagos State Transporters to stage a fake protest for the return of fuel subsidy, only for him to announce the removal again, on May 29, 2027.

Atiku spoke during a World Press Conference, at his Abuja residence, which was attended by Party Chieftains, members of the Media and Supporters.

Addressing Journalists, the ADC Presidential Flagbearer alleged that there is an underground plan to use an impending protest by Transporters in Lagos State, as a pretext to temporarily restore fuel subsidy.

He stated: "I am aware that Lagos Transporters are planning a protest that will provide Bola Tinubu the excuse to temporarily bring back fuel subsidy, and after being re-elected, go back to remove it."

Atiku further stated that the move is only politically motivated, and aimed at easing public discontent, ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially the Presidential election.

According to him, the temporary return of subsidy would be presented as a pro-people intervention, only for it to be removed again after the elections.

Atiku, however, declared that when elected President, in 2027, his administration has resolved to return the fuel production subsidy, under a more transparent, accountable and properly structured framework, designed to cushion the hardship on ordinary Nigerians, and stabilise the downstream sector.
