PDP crisis: Wabara, Babangida Aliyu, Jerry Gana, others sue INEC, seek recognition

The Sen. Adolphus Wabara-led Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has instituted a suit against Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, demanding recognition of its interim National Working Committee, NWC.

The BoT and the PDP, in a fresh suit, sought an order compelling INEC to, forthwith, update its records and publish on its official website the NWC of the party as forwarded to it by the plaintiffs and its National Executive Committee, NEC.

2027: Ebonyi commissioner resigns, joins PDP

Felix Igboke, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring, has resigned his position and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Mr Igboke, who officially announced his defection on Sunday during a PDP gathering attended by party leaders, executives and supporters in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area of the state, said he defected with more than 10,000 supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted a large consignments of various opioids and illicit substance concealed in building materials in Taraba.

This is contained in a statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi on Sunday in Abuja.

Mr Babafemi said that a major blow was dealt to opioid trafficking networks in Taraba on Saturday.

Local farmers and agricultural experts have attributed Nigeria’s growing dependence on food imports to insecurity in farming communities, calling on the government to prioritise the safety of farmlands and rural communities.

Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa initiate N20bn hospital upgrade projects

The Bauchi state government has initiated a N20 billion Bauchi Specialist Hospital upgrade project to enhance quality healthcare service delivery.

Governor Bala Mohammed said this while performing the ground breaking ceremony of the project.

He said the project was part of strategic infrastructure intervention in the health sector aimed at improving access to quality healthcare delivery for the people of the state.

Mr Mohammed said the N19.9 billion project would involve extensive renovation, expansion, and construction of new facilities in the hospital complex.

“The project is a comprehensive effort to modernise healthcare infrastructure across the state. It will ensure that our people, especially those in hard-to-reach areas, have access to affordable, quality medical services,” he said.

The project, which reached advance stage, would featured new consulting clinics, admission wards, laboratories, seminar rooms, operation theatres.

Others included the construction of 130 housing units for clinical and non-clinical staff, solar lighting systems, internet and communication facilities, modern furniture and equipment.

EXCLUSIVE: ADC woos Gawuna with Kano governorship ticket, campaign funding

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has intensified efforts to persuade former Kano State governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, to contest the 2027 governorship election on its platform, amid ongoing push to gain momentum in key states.

Sources familiar with the development told DAILY NIGERIAN that influential figures within the party have been holding consultations with Mr Gawuna's top political associates in a bid to convince him to accept the ADC governorship ticket.

According to the sources, the party has offered far-reaching political concessions, including nominations for State House of Assembly and House of Representatives seats for some of Mr Gawuna’s loyalists.

The sources added that ADC leaders have also assured the former deputy governor of adequate financial backing for his campaign should he agree to join the race.
