Today we reflect and pray with the words of Jesus in Luke Gospel.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

*NOW WE ASK, WHAT ARE THESE CROSSES?*

_The Crosses appear in the following ways_

In the context of Christianity, "daily crosses" refer to the challenges, struggles, and difficulties we face in our daily lives. These can be:

*PERSONAL STRUGGLES* : struggling over addictions, temptations, fears, doubts, and weaknesses.

*RELATIONSHIP ISSUES* : Conflicts, misunderstandings, and difficulties with family, friends, and colleagues.

*HEALTH PROBLEMS* : Illnesses, chronic conditions, and physical limitations.

*FINANCIAL STRUGGLES* : Debt, unemployment, and financial insecurity.

*EMOTIONAL BURDENS* : Grief, anxiety, depression, and mental health concerns.

*SPIRITUAL CHALLENGES* : Doubts, questions, and struggles with faith.

*DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES* : Work, household chores, and caregiving duties.

Remember, our daily crosses are opportunities for spiritual growth, refinement, and deeper trust in God. Don't run away from your Cross, don't deny or despise them, as a true disciple unite them with that of Christ and they will bear fruit.

*LET US PRAY*
Heavenly Father, uncover my eyes and reveal any obstacles keeping me from thinking as you do. Give me the courage to overcome these obstacles, and grant me the strength to take up my cross and follow you, even in the face of difficulty. I ask this through your Son, Christ our Lord.

*OUR LADY OF SORROWS NOVENA*

_DAY ONE_

_In honor of the First Sorrow of Mary,
Simeon’s Prophesy in the Temple:_

*Luke 2:34-35*
And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

Most Sorrowful Mother, grief filled was your heart when, on offering your divine Son at the temple, Holy Simeon foretold that a sword would pierce your soul. There and then you knew you would suffer with Jesus.

Queen of Martyrs, let me unite my heart to yours in this pain, and ask you the grace to keep the thought of my death in mind, so I may always avoid sin.

Hail Mary…

Prayer to our Sorrowful Mother for a particular grace:

O mother most holy and sorrowful, Queen of Martyrs, you who stood by your Son as He agonized on the cross. By the sufferings of your life, by that sword of pain that pierced your heart, by your perfect joy in heaven, look down on me kindly as I kneel before you, sympathizing with your sorrows and offering you my petition with childlike trust.

Dear Mother, because your Son refuses you nothing, ask of His Sacred Heart to mercifully hear my prayer and to grant this prayer in accord with His most perfect will. Therefore, through the merits of His Sacred Passion, along with those of your sufferings at the foot of the cross, I pray…

Mother most merciful, to whom shall I go in my misery if not to you who pities us poor sinful exiles in this valley of tears? We equally pray for intending couples that their relationship would be built on true and sincere love.

Brilliant Aurora of Heaven, lovable Mary, thy birth brought great consolation to the souls of the saints detained in limbo, for it announced the approach of the Sun of Justice, Jesus Christ, Who would enlighten their darkness and then conduct them to paradise. May thy birth give joy to my soul also, and obtain for me from God, patience in all adversities, a perfect and constant conformity to His most holy will.

_About the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross_

The feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is September 14th.

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross came to be when St. Helena (mother of the Christian Roman Emperor Constantine) went to Jerusalem to find the holy places of Jesus Christ’s life.

She had the Temple of Aphrodite torn down, which tradition said was built over Jesus’ tomb. During the excavation, workers found three crosses and burial tombs. The cross on which Jesus died was identified when a dying woman was healed after touching the Cross.

The Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher was built above the place where Jesus’ Cross was found. The Cross immediately became an object of veneration and to this day the Catholic, Eastern and Orthodox Churches all celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14th, which is the anniversary of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher’s dedication.

*Intentions for the first day* . May we discover the hidden treasures in our individual crosses and avoid looking and complaining at the physical torture they bring. May we understand that God allowed crosses to come our way that we may share from the suffering of Christ for our salvation.

Oh, Holy Cross of Jesus, be my true light!
Oh, Holy Cross, fill my soul with good thoughts.
Oh, Holy Cross, ward off from me all things that are evil.
Oh, Holy Cross, ward off from me all dangers and deaths and give me life everlasting!
Oh, Crucified Jesus of Nazareth, have mercy on me now and forever.

In honor of the Precious Blood of Jesus, his death, resurrection and ascension which leads to everlasting life; true as Jesus was born on Christmas Day; true as Jesus was crucified on Good Friday; true as Joseph and Nicodemus took Jesus down from the cross and buried Him; true as Jesus ascended into Heaven; may He preserve me from my enemies visible and invisible forever.

Oh, Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me! Mary and Joseph pray for me.
Lord Jesus Christ, through Your suffering the Cross grant me strength to bear my Cross without fear or dread and give me the grace that I may follow You. Amen

*EXALTATION OF THE CROSS NOVENA* _AND_ *OUR LADY OF SORROWS NOVENA*

The exaltation of the Holy Cross Novena begins tomorrow and ends on the 13th of September with the feast on the 14th of September.

While Our Lady of Sorrows Novena begins on the 6th of September and ends on the 14th with the Feast on the 15th of September.

There may be one or two things to learn during this period. You are free to share the Novena prayers to your family and friends.

Pray with us as we evoke the power contained in the Holy Cross of Christ our saviour over our situations and asking for the intercession of our Lady of sorrows to see us through in all our troubles.

Submit every troubles to the crushing effects of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ and allow Him to act.

Most Beautiful Branch of the tree of David, most admirable Mary, whose birth was such a consolation to St. Joachim and St. Anne who were delighted to be the parents of so holy a child, may thy birth be the consolation of my soul, by obtaining for me from God, victory over the world and detachment from all the things of this earth.
