As Nigeria grapples with the complexities of the 21st century, it's imperative to recognize the pivotal role technology plays in catapulting nations to greatness. China and Japan, erstwhile developing countries, have transcended their humble beginnings to emerge as technological behemoths. Nigeria can ill afford to lag behind. It's high time we harness the transformative power of technology by integrating it into our educational system, emulating the Asian Tigers' remarkable success.

China and Japan's meteoric rise can be attributed to their strategic emphasis on technological education. These nations recognized the importance of cultivating a skilled workforce, adept in cutting-edge technologies. By incorporating STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) into their curriculum, they created a fertile ground for innovation.

Nigeria's educational system, though well-intentioned, remains antiquated. Our curriculum focuses predominantly on theoretical knowledge, neglecting practical, hands-on training. This oversight has resulted in a dearth of skilled technicians, engineers, and innovators. To bridge this gap, we must:

- Transform the curriculum to balance theoretical foundations with hands-on training in STEM fields.
- Integrate STEM subjects into primary and secondary school curricula.
- Foster industry partnerships for internships, mentoring, and practical exposure.
- Upgrade educational infrastructure with state-of-the-art tools.
- Provide continuous teacher training and professional development.

In the annals of academia, professors/Lecturers have long stood as guardians of knowledge, entrusted with shaping the minds of future leaders. However, in Nigeria, a troubling reality has emerged. The once-revered professoriate has, in some cases, devolved into mediocrity and even exploitation. This article serves as both a lament and a rallying cry: Professors/Lecturers must reclaim their role as innovators and mentors, not as sadistic taskmasters or political pawns.

For many Nigerian students, the pursuit of education has been clouded by frustration and despair. A typical scenario unfolds when a final-year student is assigned a projectโ€”an opportunity meant to refine their skills and apply years of learning. Instead of being guided by a supportive supervisor, the student often encounters a lecturer who exploits, frustrates, and obstructs their progress. These so-called educators demand money or engage in other unethical practices, forsaking their duty to nurture intellectual growth.

This sadistic exploitation is a symptom of a larger malaise, where large number of professors/lecturers have transitioned from educators to oppressors. Rather than being productive and innovative, some choose to lord their authority over students, delighting in their struggles rather than aiding in their success. Worse, many professors have become pawns in the political arena, allowing their intellectual integrity to be compromised for the sake of partisan agendas, like what happened in the previous elections in the country.

This pattern of behavior is not unique to Nigeria. Globally, the academia is often criticized for becoming out of touchโ€”professors retreating into their ivory towers, producing irrelevant research disconnected from the needs of society. But the stakes in Nigeria are particularly high, where the country's progress is tethered to the success of its educational institutions.

In Nigeria, some professors have allowed complacency and self-interest to overshadow their true calling. They perpetuate intellectual lethargy, sticking to outdated curricula, ignoring the need for innovation, and failing to contribute meaningfully to society. Many act as ๐’Š๐’๐’•๐’†๐’๐’๐’†๐’„๐’•๐’–๐’‚๐’ ๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’•๐’†๐’Œ๐’†๐’†๐’‘๐’†๐’“๐’”, hoarding knowledge rather than disseminating it. As a result, they stifle the creativity and ambition of their students, rather than encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Not all hope is lost. There is a core group of professors in Nigeria who have not succumbed to this decline. These educators stand as the antithesis to the aforementioned sa**sm and exploitation. They embody ๐’‘๐’“๐’๐’…๐’–๐’„๐’•๐’Š๐’—๐’Š๐’•๐’š, ๐’Š๐’๐’—๐’†๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’, ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐’Š๐’๐’๐’๐’—๐’‚๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’, constantly seeking ways to improve their fields and empower their students.

To redeem Nigeriaโ€™s academic system, professors/lecturers must break free from the shackles of mediocrity and embrace their potential as pioneers. The role of a professor/lecturer is not to frustrate or exploit students, but to serve as mentors who guide, inspire, and equip them with the tools needed to succeed.

The true power of a professor/lecturer lies in their ability to balance several key responsibilities:

1. Productivity: Professors/lecturers should focus on producing impactful research that addresses real-world problems. This involves moving away from abstract, irrelevant theories and focusing on solutions that can drive progress in Nigeria and beyond.

2. Innovation: Nigerian professors/lecturers must adopt an inventive mindset, using their research to pioneer new technologies, teaching methods, and approaches to learning. This includes fostering entrepreneurial thinking in students, encouraging them to create rather than merely consume knowledge.

3. Mentorship: The best professors/lecturers understand that their role goes beyond instruction. They must be mentors who provide genuine support, guiding students through their academic journeys and helping them navigate lifeโ€™s complexities.

4. Social Responsibility: Professors/lecturers have a duty to apply their knowledge for the betterment of society, addressing the many challenges Nigeria faces, from healthcare to education and infrastructure.

To restore the glory of the professoriate in Nigeria, several reforms are needed:

1. Reforming the Curriculum: Education in Nigeria must move beyond rote learning. Curricula should incorporate practical skills, foster critical thinking, and emphasize entrepreneurship. Professors must ensure that students are not merely learning for exams, but are equipped with the tools to succeed in a dynamic world.

2. Fostering Industry Partnerships: Collaboration between universities and industries is essential. Professors should establish partnerships with the private sector, government, and civil society to ensure that academic research is relevant and impactful. This will also expose students to real-world problems and solutions.

3. Incentivizing Excellence: The academic system should reward productivity, invention, and innovation rather than mere longevity or publication count. Professors who contribute meaningfully to their fields and studentsโ€™ development should be celebrated and rewarded.

4. Protecting Academic Freedom: Finally, universities must safeguard professors from political interference. Academic freedom is crucial for fostering a culture of innovation and progress, and no professor should feel compelled to serve as a tool in the hands of politicians.

The professoriate in Nigeria is at a crossroads. On one side lies the path of complacency, exploitation, and political manipulation; on the other, the road to productivity, invention, and mentorship. Professors/lecturers have the power to shape the future of Nigeria, but they must embrace this responsibility with integrity and dedication.

To those few professors/lecturers who remain true to their calling, who inspire and uplift their students, Nigeria owes a debt of gratitude. These educators are the visionaries who will propel the nation forward. For the rest, it is time to shed the mantle of pedantry and step into the role of pioneers. The future of Nigeria depends on it.

By reclaiming the professoriate as a force for good, Nigeriaโ€™s universities can once again become bastions of knowledge and innovationโ€”places where students are not only educated, but empowered to transform their world. Let this be the dawn of a new era for Nigerian academia.

The Aburi Accord, a seminal agreement brokered in January 1967, held immense promise for the establishment of a true federal system of government in Nigeria, thereby fostering a paradigm shift in the nation's governance structure. Had the accord been successfully implemented, Nigeria would have likely benefited from a more decentralized and inclusive system of governance, which would have yielded a plethora of advantages.

A fundamental benefit of the Aburi Accord would have been the recognition of Nigeria as a federal system, where regional autonomy would have been sacrosanct. This would have enabled the various regions to exercise greater control over their internal affairs, thereby allowing for more effective management of their unique challenges and opportunities. By devolving power to the regions, the central government would have been relieved of the burden of micromanaging regional affairs, allowing it to focus on matters of national import.

The Aburi Accord's emphasis on regional autonomy would have also facilitated the promotion of cultural diversity and tolerance. With each region empowered to preserve and promote its unique cultural heritage, Nigeria would have become a veritable tapestry of diverse cultures, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. This, in turn, would have helped to mitigate the tensions and conflicts that often arise from cultural differences.

The Aburi Accord's provisions for revenue sharing and resource management would have also yielded significant economic benefits. By allowing regions to retain a larger share of their revenue, they would have been able to invest in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and other critical sectors, thereby stimulating regional economic growth. Moreover, the accord's emphasis on resource management would have ensured that the nation's natural resources were exploited in a sustainable manner, minimizing the environmental and social costs associated with extractive industries.

A true federal system, as envisioned by the Aburi Accord, would have also led to increased participation and representation in governance. With power devolved to the regions, citizens would have had greater opportunities to engage in decision-making processes that affect their lives, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability. Moreover, the accord's emphasis on regional autonomy would have ensured that the diverse interests of Nigeria's various ethnic and regional groups were represented in the national governance structure.

The Aburi Accord's recognition of regional autonomy and its emphasis on revenue sharing and resource management would have also helped to reduce conflict and instability in Nigeria. By addressing the underlying causes of conflict, such as resource control and economic marginalization, the accord would have created an environment conducive to peace and stability. Moreover, the accord's provisions for dialogue and negotiation would have provided a framework for resolving disputes and addressing grievances, thereby reducing the likelihood of violent conflict.

Ironically, the Aburi Accord's emphasis on regional autonomy and decentralization would have ultimately strengthened national unity. By recognizing and respecting the diversity of Nigeria's regions, the accord would have fostered a sense of belonging and shared citizenship among Nigerians. Moreover, the accord's provisions for revenue sharing and resource management would have ensured that the benefits of Nigeria's natural resources were shared equitably, thereby reducing the sense of marginalization and exclusion that often breeds disunity.

A true federal system, as envisioned by the Aburi Accord, would have also led to improved governance and accountability in Nigeria. With power devolved to the regions, citizens would have had greater opportunities to hold their elected representatives accountable, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability. Moreover, the accord's emphasis on regional autonomy would have ensured that governance was more responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigeria's diverse regions.

Finally, the successful implementation of the Aburi Accord would have enhanced Nigeria's international reputation as a beacon of democracy and good governance. By embracing a true federal system, Nigeria would have demonstrated its commitment to decentralization, regional autonomy, and inclusive governance, thereby earning the respect and admiration of the international community.

๐ˆ๐ง ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง, the Aburi Accord held immense promise for Nigeria's governance structure, and its successful implementation would have yielded a plethora of benefits, including enhanced regional autonomy, cultural diversity and tolerance, economic benefits, increased participation and representation, reduced conflict and instability, enhanced national unity, improved governance and accountability, and an enhanced international reputation. Unfortunately, the accord's failure to materialize has had far-reaching consequences for Nigeria's governance structure, and the nation continues to grapple with the challenges of decentralization, regional autonomy, and inclusive governance.

A CALL TO ACTION: A COMPREHENSIVE APPEAL FOR CHANGE IN NIGERIA. by John Izuchukwu Stephen

Nigeria, our cherished nation, blessed with an abundance of natural and human resources, is at a critical crossroads. The challenges we face are profound and threaten the very foundation of our society. The current state of our nation demands urgent action, and it is crucial that we, the citizens, take a stand to demand the changes that are necessary for our collective future. The power to bring about this change resides in our unity, a power that is enshrined in our Constitution and recognized by international human rights standards. Now is the time to exercise our constitutional, as guaranteed by Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which states: "Every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular, he may form or belong to any political party, trade union, or any other association for the protection of his interests. In this context, the now president in association with the former president and their likes protested in 2014.
Why don't they want the masses to protest using all machineries and available means to stop the masses thereby infringing on the masses' right.

THE MULTIFACETED CHALLENGES WE FACE

1. HUNGER AND FOOD INSECURITY:
- Despite Nigeria's vast agricultural potential, inefficiencies in food production and distribution have led to widespread hunger. Millions of Nigerians face the daily struggle of securing basic necessities. The rising cost of food, coupled with economic instability, has pushed many families into deeper poverty. Ensuring food security is not just a responsibility but a fundamental human right that we must uphold.

2. DEPLORABLE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM:
- Nigeria's healthcare system is in a state of crisis, characterized by chronic underfunding, inadequate infrastructure, and a severe shortage of medical professionals. Many Nigerians, unable to afford treatment abroad, suffer and die from preventable diseases. The dire condition of our healthcare sector requires immediate and sustained action to prevent further loss of life.

3. CRUMBLING EDUCATIONAL SYSTSEM:
- Education is the cornerstone of any thriving society, yet our educational institutions are collapsing. With schools lacking basic amenities, teachers going unpaid, and students learning in unsafe conditions, the future of our youth is at risk. This situation demands urgent intervention to properly fund and equip our schools from primary to higher institutions, ensuring that the next generation is prepared to lead.

4. MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES:
- Nigeria is endowed with immense natural and human resources, but corruption and inefficiency have led to their gross mismanagement. Instead of driving national development, our wealth is squandered, leaving the population impoverished. It is time for a transparent and accountable approach to resource management, one that benefits all Nigerians.

5. RAMPANT CORRUPTION AND EMBEZZLEMENT:
- Corruption has deeply infiltrated every level of our society. Public officials, entrusted with governance, have turned their positions into avenues for personal gain. Embezzlement, nepotism, and other forms of corruption have become pervasive, eroding public trust and stalling national progress. The masses demand an end to this culture of impunity and call for accountability from our leaders.

6. INSECURITY AND LAWLESSNESS:
- The security situation in Nigeria is deteriorating rapidly. From terrorism and insurgency to kidnapping and armed robbery, the safety of Nigerian citizens is under constant threat. The government's failure to fulfill its primary duty of protecting its people is a grave concern. The masses call for a comprehensive overhaul of the security apparatus and a renewed commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians.

7. ENERGY CRISIS AND ECONOMIC STAGNATION:
- The unreliable power supply continues to cripple Nigeria's economic potential. Constant power outages force businesses to operate at a loss and leave households in darkness. A stable and efficient energy supply is critical for economic growth and development. The masses demand immediate reforms in the energy sector to address this persistent issue.

8. DISREGARD FOR THE RULE OF LAW:
- The erosion of the rule of law and the disregard for established processes have become rampant. When leaders ignore the law, it sets a dangerous precedent, leading to chaos and undermining governance. It is essential to restore respect for the rule of law and ensure that all governmental actions are within the bounds of the Constitution.

9. INCONSISTENT GOVERNANCE AND LACK OF CONTINUITY:
- The lack of continuity in governance, where policies and projects are abandoned with each change in administration, hinders sustainable development. This cycle of starting and stopping projects leads to stagnation and a loss of public trust. The masses demand a commitment to continuity, ensuring that beneficial policies and projects are sustained beyond political transitions.

DEMANDS: A Vision for a Better Nigeria

In light of these grievances, the concerned citizens of Nigeria, are compelled to raise their voices in peaceful protest. Their demands are clear and aimed at building a better Nigeria:

FOOD SECURITY: Implementation of policies that ensure every Nigerian has access to affordable and nutritious food.
HEALTHCARE REFORM: Increased funding, improved infrastructure, and investment in the healthcare system to provide quality care for all.

EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT: Proper funding, staffing, and equipping of schools to offer quality education that prepares our youth for the future.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Transparent and accountable governance in the management of Nigeria's natural and human resources.

ANTI-CORRUPTION MEASURES: A zero-tolerance approach to corruption, with strict enforcement of laws and prosecution of offenders.

SECURITY: Comprehensive security reforms to protect the lives and property of every Nigerian.

ENERGY REFORM: Implementation of policies that ensure a reliable and consistent power supply across the nation.
RULE OF LAW:Strengthening of legal institutions to ensure adherence to established processes and laws.

GOVERNANCE CONTINUITY: Commitment to continuity in governance, ensuring that beneficial policies and projects are sustained beyond political transitions.

A CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

As we exercise our right to protest, we also call on our political leaders to act with integrity and responsibility. It is crucial that they refrain from politicizing these protests by deploying thugs or using the military to destabilize peaceful demonstrations. Such actions not only undermine the democratic process but also violate the rights of citizens to express their grievances. Leaders should instead engage constructively with the demands of the people, fostering dialogue and pursuing solutions that benefit the nation as a whole.

SOARING TO SUCCESS: EMBRACING THE EAGLE'S ADVANTAGE

As we navigate the complexities of life, we often find ourselves searching for the key to success. One majestic creature, the eagle, embodies the principles of leveraging natural advantages to thrive. Let's take a cue from this regal bird and explore how embracing our surroundings can propel us toward triumph.

KEEN EYESIGHT: Observing Opportunities

Eagles boast exceptional vision, scanning the landscape for prey from miles away. Similarly, we must develop our ability to spot opportunities hiding in plain sight. Stay alert, and recognize the potential in people, situations, and resources around you.

WINGS OF ADAPTABILITY: Embracing Change

Eagles effortlessly ride thermals, adjusting their wings to harness the wind's power. We too must learn to adapt, embracing change as a catalyst for growth. Be willing to pivot when circumstances shift, and leverage the winds of change to carry you forward.

TALONS OF RESILIENCE: Grasping Challenges

Eagles' sharp talons ensure a firm grip, even in turbulent skies. We must develop our own resilience, grasping challenges with determination and perseverance. View obstacles as opportunities to strengthen your grip on success.

NESTING ALTITUDE: Elevating Perspective

Eagles build their nests atop towering trees or cliffs, surveying their kingdom from a lofty vantage point. We too can elevate our perspective by seeking diverse viewpoints, learning from others, and expanding our knowledge. Rise above the noise, and gaze out upon the landscape of possibility.

FLOCKING TOGETHER: Collaborative Strength

While eagles soar solo, they also gather in flocks, sharing resources and expertise. We can achieve more by embracing collaboration, pooling our strengths, and supporting one another. Build your flock, and together, take to the skies.

In conclusion, the eagle's natural advantages offer valuable lessons for our own journey to success. By observing opportunities, adapting to change, grasping challenges, elevating our perspective, and collaborating with others, we can spread our wings and soar. Remember, the wind beneath your wings is often the advantage you've been searching for โ€“ embrace it, and take flight.

BY John Izuchukwu Stephen

As the long vacation approaches, parents are faced with the decision of how to engage their children productively. While academic lessons may seem like the obvious choice, enrolling your child in a trade or handwork program can have a more significant impact on their development. Here are reasons why:

1. Practical Skills Acquisition: Trades and handworks teach tangible skills that can be applied in real-life situations, fostering self-sufficiency and confidence.

2. Creativity and Innovation: Hands-on activities stimulate creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking, essential for future success.

3. Career Exploration: Exposure to various trades can help children discover their passions and potential career paths.

4. Character Development: Trade and handwork training instills discipline, hard work, and responsibility, shaping your child's character.

5. Break from Academics: A respite from intense academic studies allows children to recharge and maintain a healthy balance.

6. Enhanced Cognitive Skills: Engaging in hands-on activities improves spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and cognitive development.

7. Social Benefits: Trade and handwork programs offer opportunities for socialization, teamwork, and communication skills development.

8. Entrepreneurial Mindset: Learning a trade or handwork can inspire entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

By enrolling your child in a trade or handwork program during the long vacation, you'll provide them with a unique opportunity to develop practical skills, explore their creativity, and build a strong foundation for future success. Embrace this chance to shape their future and watch them thrive!
