TINUBU COMMISSIONS COLLECTOR ROAD CN2 CONNECTING MABUSHI AND KATAMPE DISTRICTS IN ABUJA

…AS WIKE REITERATES NEED FOR PROMPT PAYMENT OF TAXES

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, June 19, 2025 officially commissioned the newly constructed Collector Road CN2, popularly known as the Zakari A. Kyari Street, which links Ahmadu Belo Way by Mabushi District to Katampe Districts and other surrounding roads.

In his address during the ceremony, President Tinubu, through his representative, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon.Benjamin Okezie Kalu, expressed immense pleasure and joy at the completion of the road, saying it reflects the commitment of the Federal Government to urban development and improving the quality of life for citizens of the country.

He emphasized that the commissioning was more than just opening a road, stressing that it was about opening communities, supporting growth, and addressing the emerging posterity.

The President stated that the road project will significantly reduce traffic and travel time as well as enhance connectivity in the Katampe and Mabushi Districts and other adjoining areas.

He commended the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his team for prioritizing infrastructure delivery, and extended appreciation to CGC Nigeria Limited for the prompt and efficient ex*****on of the project.

He also pledged continued investment in infrastructure projects that will positively impact Nigerians, reassuring that government remains committed to ensuring that every citizen feels the impact of good governance through ongoing and future infrastructure projects.

According to him, "My administration will continue to invest in critical infrastructure – roads, bridges, housing, transport, education, and health – because we understand that infrastructure is the foundation of national development, and that infrastructure is not an expenditure; it's a good investment for the people".

President Tinubu acknowledged the temporary inconveniences to residents of Mabushi, Katampe and the surrounding areas during the construction phase and thanked them for their patience and cooperation, while also calling on residents to protect and preserve the newly commissioned road.

Speaking in his personal capacity, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu lauded the FCT Minister for consistently delivering on projects, noting that the Parliament is highly impressed with his services. "Time and again last year, the FCT Minister did it. There were doubts whether you would repeat it this year. But this year again, you have given us 17 days to commission projects. We are proud of you", Kalu said.

He further assured that the Parliament would never hesitate to approve the FCT Minister's proposals, recognizing his adeptness at investing government resources to positively impact the lives of the people.

"It’s not only the President that is impressed with your services. The Parliament is impressed with your services. Truly, you have projected in reality, not in theory, the aspirations of Renewed Hope Agenda", he added, emphasizing that the principles guiding the Renewed Hope Agenda are being brought to life.

Earlier in his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support and for identifying with the FCT during the commissioning of completed infrastructure projects.

Barrister Wike also commended the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited for completing the project ahead of schedule and for showing capacity, stressing that the Collector Road CN2 is the fourth project executed by the company and commissioned recently, with others including projects in Gishiri, Wasa and the Greater Abuja Water Supply.

The Minister clarified that while the road benefits the Judges Quarters, its connectivity extends to numerous other areas, significantly enhancing accessibility across the district.

He also underscored the economic impact of the new road, noting that property values in the area have significantly increased following its completion.

Barrister Wike also used the occasion to appeal to residents to fulfill their civic duty by paying ground rents, emphasizing that these revenues were crucial for funding infrastructure development. "If you don't pay, nobody will provide this infrastructure. The only thing the city has is to collect tax", he asserted, calling on "big men" who often default on payments to take responsibility.

Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, who was represented by the Head of Service, FCTA, Mrs. Grace Adayilo also thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support to the FCT Administration and further praised the FCT Minister for his commitment to the provision of infrastructure in the FCT.

Providing a technical overview of the project, Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, explained that the contract for Collector Road CN2 and other adjoining roads was awarded to provide engineering infrastructure in the Mabushi and Katampe Districts in the phase II of the Federal Capital City which had hitherto been lacking, adding that the road will open up the districts for further development.

He said the scope of the project include the construction of Collector Road CN2, a dual carriageway with two lanes each, and various other local and minor single-carriage roads within Katampe District. All the roads, he stated, are equipped with essential engineering infrastructure, including surface water drainage, culverts, wastewater drainage systems, water supply networks, telecommunication ducts, and street lighting.

MD, CGC Nigeria Limited, Zhong Xiang thanked the FCT Minister for trusting them with the responsibility, while also extending appreciation to the local communities for their support during the project delivery.

PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMISSIONS GREATER ABUJA WATER SUPPLY NETWORK

…COMMISERATES WITH BENUE STATE OVER RECENT KILLINGS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, June 16, 2025, officially commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, a landmark project designed to significantly enhance water provision across Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In his address at the ceremony, President Tinubu commended the FCT Administration for its dedication to delivering vital infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of citizens and lauded the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for exemplifying strong leadership and a deep consciousness of the people's needs.

According to President Tinubu, “This water infrastructure is not only a technical milestone; it is a moral one because it is about equity. It is about ensuring that no part of Abuja is left behind in our national developmental agenda. It's a renewed hope".

The President further highlighted his administration's commitment to accelerating growth, prosperity, and the delivery of reliable infrastructure, including human capacity development.

He said: “When we speak of the Renewed Hope Agenda, this is what we mean – tangible, people-focused projects that improve daily life. Water to drink, to clean, to grow, to build. That is real progress.
“We are not just laying pipes – we are laying the groundwork for healthier families, stronger communities and a productive city.
“As your President, I remain deeply committed to accelerating infrastructure delivery, especially in critical sectors like water, power, roads and housing. These are not only developmental goals – they are the building blocks of dignity”.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to international partners, especially the People's Republic of China, for their invaluable support, saying "Together, we are showing the world that partnership built on mutual respect and shared prosperity can deliver real impact".

He urged residents and stakeholders to protect the investment, use water wisely, and collaborate with the government to ensure its sustainability.

The President also used the occasion to extend his deepest sympathies to the people of Benue State over the recent killings of about 200 people, pledging a visit to the State on Wednesday while calling for peace and harmony.

“While I sympathize with the Benue people, I’ve spoken to the Governor; the leadership and people of Benue should accept our condolences and try very consciously to maintain peace and harmony among themselves.

“I’ve always said that we are one single huge family living in the same house, in different rooms… We should be able to manage our anger and frustrations. I sympathize with those who have lost their lives. I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday”, President Tinubu stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, recalled President Tinubu’s directive to prioritize the completion of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, among others, and expressed profound appreciation to the President and the National Assembly for their consistent support.

Barr. Wike explained that the project, awarded in 2017 at a cost of $470 million under the Partnership of African Development Initiative, was 85% funded by the Chinese government, with the remaining 15% covered by the Federal Government and the FCT Administration for Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6.

"We want to sincerely thank you that under this administration, this job has been completed and today you are commissioning the Greater Abuja Water supply network," Barr. Wike stated.

He also announced that procurement is underway for a new agreement with Chinese overseas construction giant, CGC, to extend water provision to rural areas and satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu, and assured of its timely completion.

Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Zhang Yi, while also offering congratulatory remarks to Nigeria’s Federal Government, said the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, financed majorly by the China Exim Bank, symbolizes the strong friendship and consistent support between Nigeria and the China.

He added that the completion of the project had tripled the city's daily water capacity, providing clean and reliable drinking water to FCT residents.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, the Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, also acknowledged President Tinubu's unwavering commitment to the welfare of FCT residents and Barr. Wike's visionary leadership, asserting that the project's completion demonstrates the federal government's inclusive development policy.

The Greater Abuja Water Supply project involves the construction of extensive water supply pipe networks, specifically Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6, which are set to improve water access for 50 districts within the FCT, aligning with the city's masterplan.

PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMISSIONS 15KM OSEX SERVICE CARRIAGEWAY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his dedicated team for the successful completion and delivery of 17 vital infrastructure projects within the FCT to commemorate his second year in office.

The commendation came during the commissioning of the 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from Ring Road I to Wasa Junction in Abuja.

President Tinubu, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio also applauded the FCT Minister for his unwavering commitment to providing essential infrastructure that positively impacts the lives of FCT residents.

He described the OSEX as Abuja’s crucial transport backbone, emphasizing its role in connecting the city center to rapidly expanding districts such as Apo, Lokogoma, Gudu, Wumba, and Wasa, thereby significantly enhancing urban mobility.

"This road, stretching from Ring Road I all the way to Wasa Junction, is a significant addition to the road networks in the heart of Abuja. This vital infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to sustainable urban development, enhanced mobility, and improved quality of life for the people of the FCT and by extension, to all Nigerians and visitors alike", President Tinubu stated.

The President also praised the impressive quality of work on the OSEX and acknowledged the Minister's efforts to relocate the Apo Mechanic Village traders, expressing confidence that the exercise would be brought to a successful conclusion.

He further commended the surrounding communities for their patience and support during the construction phase, urging FCT residents to protect the new infrastructure.

“I commend the FCT Administration led by the Hon. Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike and the contractor, Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited for the impressive feat and quality of work. Through Wike’s leadership, uncompleted projects have been reactivated and delivered with discipline, quality and timeously. Like the Minister described, they had to cut through the rock for 5 kilometers in order to bring about this road.

“The Minister has also promised the mechanic village that has been here since 1991, that they will be relocated and they said they are happy. They expressed it by answering it. If there is something I know about you; it’s the fact that you don’t like anybody breaking agreements. Agreement is agreement. So, today you have an agreement with the good people of the FCT. Remain focused and continue to deliver. Nobody will remember you for the way you answered your critics. They will only remember you for the legacies you are leaving on ground”, the President added.

In his remarks, FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed gratitude for President Tinubu's personal commitment and presence at the commissioning of completed projects in the FCT.

He reaffirmed the FCT Administration's dedication to completing all ongoing projects in line with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, crediting the support from the President and the National Assembly for the successes achieved thus far.

Barrister Wike stated that the OSEX road project has already improved connectivity within the FCT, allowing easier access from Wasa to Takushara and Ketti, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

While committing to the dualisation of the main OSEX carriageways, the FCT Minister equally pledged to personally supervise and ensure the relocation of the Apo Mechanic Village along the road corridor.

He said, "Mr. President, as I speak to you, where we are sitting now, we are going to dualize this road to finally address anything about traffic in this area. Secondly, we have told the Mechanic Village; they said since 2011, they have promised them they will relocate them. Ours is not a promise. Ours is that we are going to do it. I will supervise it, I will chair the relocation".

Addressing critics, the Minister defended the rehabilitation of the International Conference Centre and its renaming after the President, asserting that the FCTA aims for the best for the country and that President Tinubu demonstrated strong leadership in ensuring its restoration.

"We want the best for the country and the President has given the best to the country...If you are not happy that we named it after Mr. President, go and kill yourself. I have done it and I have no regret", Barr. Wike stressed.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, appreciated President Tinubu for his commitment to infrastructure development and support for the FCT Administration. She also thanked members of the National Assembly for their support and lauded the visionary leadership style of the FCT Minister, which, she said, has seen to the delivery of numerous infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital.

Providing a technical overview of the project, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, stated that the 15km Left-hand Service Carriageway of the OSEX was awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited, with work commencing in November last year. He explained that the OSEX, upon full development, will be a 10-lane expressway connecting the city to the Federal Highway A2 (Abuja-Lokoja Way) in Gwagwalada, with the current phase extending from Ring Road I to Wasa Junction.

The Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited assured that the highest quality standards were maintained throughout the project's delivery, thanking the Federal Government and the FCT Administration for their trust.

President Tinubu Will Lead Us To Nigeria Of Our dreams – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, says the country needs leaders like President Bola Tinubu to achieve the “Nigeria of our dreams.”

Wike said this in his 2025 Distinguish Personality Lecture, titled, “The Nigeria of our Dreams” presented at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Thursday.

Wike pointed out that the greatest challenge confronting Nigeria and militating against its development was the plague of bad leadership.

He agreed with Chinua Achebe, whose seminar, ‘The Trouble with Nigeria’, graphically captured the challenge, when he stated that ‘the trouble with Nigeria is fairly and squarely the absence of proper leadership’.

“This statement, damaging as it may appear, is extremely difficult to controvert.

“Our leaders have, in the main, emerged through self-serving conspiracies that have little or nothing to do with national interests and development.

“This has been the case in both military and civilian contexts,” he said.

He, however, said that Tinubu had stood out as the leader the people need to drive Nigeria to progress and prosperity.

He explained that Nigeria needs a leader that was prepared to lead with sound character and resilience in the face of challenges.

He added that the leader must also be a person who believes in the infinite possibilities that the Nigerian nation exemplifies, while taking solid, proactive, logical and well-informed decisions that would maximally actualise her potential.

This leader, he said, must have the courage and audacity to act, build, innovate and generally expand the frontiers of development with a hands-on approach that would emphasise excellence over mediocrity.

He added that more importantly, the leader of Nigerians’ dream must create a society of free and responsible citizens whose potentials flow freely and free enterprise thrives.

“Let me make bold at this juncture to state that today, in our country, we have such a leader in the person of Tinubu.

“He has shown in several ways and at different times, a stout commitment to the enthronement of democracy in our country, to the extent of even putting his own life on the line in the process.

“He has shown great capacity for engendering development as captured in the unprecedented rapid and exponential development of Lagos state under his watch and even beyond,” he added.

He also said that Tinubu has demonstrated a rare courage by removing fuel subsidy on his first day, upon being sworn in as President.

According to him, leaders before him all spoke about the evil of fuel subsidy, but none had the courage to dare the blackmail of removing it.

“Tinubu did and is fittingly grappling with the inevitable, unintended and sometimes orchestrated consequences of this removal.

“Today, our states have far more resources to develop, the debts are no longer piling and the price of petrol is gradually but steadily adjusting downwards in tandem with the forces of demand and supply and the strict implementation of regulatory conditionalities.

“Also, the overwhelming cry of over-centralisation of power and resources at the national level and the attendant abuse of the doctrine of federalism is being systematically addressed.

“This is being addressed through the creation of zonal/regional commissions empowered to devolve developmental impetus to the respective zones and regions, so that power can truly return to the people.”

On security, Wike said that the situation was being addressed through proper funding and the training and retraining of security forces.

The minister added that Tinubu’s approval for the recruitment of forest guards across the country to take charge of the nation’s forests, bandits and terrorists would no longer find incubation points and free territories to operate.

“Put simply, the era of banditry and terrorism would soon come to an end.

“These and many other policies and measures are being put together by Tinubu to reposition our country on the path of progress and development,” Wike said.

Earlier, Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun, described Wike as a straightforward politician, adding that his wealth of political experience and leadership style was exemplary.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, the governor said that the minister’s infrastructural transformation in the FCT was visionary.

Also, the Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Adebayo Bamire, said that the theme of the lecture, ‘’Nigeria of our Dream” was timely and thought-provoking.

“At a critical juncture when our nation’s democratic journey, when the challenges of governance, civic trust, and equitable development are at the forefront of public discourse, this lecture offers a vital platform for reflection, engagement and forward thinking.

“It calls us to interrogate the structures that uphold democracy, the principles that guide responsible governance, citizenship and the strategies that can unlock Nigeria’s development potential,” he said.

The Royal Father of the Day, Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, said he has deep respect for Wike because of his fearlessness.

He described the minister as an “upright politician” who “said things as they are.

“Hate him; like him – what will be will be.”

SAGE: Mahmoud Calls For Greater Investment In Agricultural Education

The FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has called for increased investment in agricultural education that effectively blends theoretical knowledge with practical enterprise, alongside improved access to financing and tools for young agripreneurs.

She also advocated for the establishment of innovation hubs where young people could collaborate on sustainable solutions to modern agricultural challenges.

Delivering her message at the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Nigeria 2025 National School Entrepreneurship and Awards in Abuja, the Minister urged educators, mentors, policymakers, and stakeholders to move beyond applause and translate their support into tangible actions that advance youth-led innovation.

Mahmoud, who was represented by her Special Assistant on Technical Matters, Tpl. Michael Bawa, emphasized that Nigerian youths are not just leaders of tomorrow but innovators of today.

She noted that their creativity and technological ingenuity hold the key to transforming agribusiness and securing Nigeria’s food future.

Speaking on the theme “Harnessing Youth Innovation for Sustainable Agribusinesses and Food Security,” the Minister stressed the urgent need to empower youth-driven agripreneurship as a core solution to the country’s evolving agricultural challenges.

She commended SAGE Nigeria for its commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial ambition, noting its remarkable feat of winning the SAGE World Cup eight times in the last 12 years.

According to her, "this success underscores the exceptional potential of Nigerian youth on the global stage."

The Minister observed that Nigeria’s development is being shaped by complex forces, including rapid population growth, climate change, rural unemployment, and food insecurity.

However, she maintained that the country is uniquely positioned to overcome these challenges through the innovative energy of its young people.

Highlighting the transformative power of modern agriculture, Mahmoud pointed to the growing role of technologies such as drones, mobile apps, blockchain, and artificial intelligence in revolutionizing farming practices—turning agriculture into a sector of opportunity, not of last resort.

She described the young entrepreneurs present as “architects of Nigeria’s future,” capable of turning scarcity into abundance and dependency into sustainability.

Mahmoud called on all stakeholders to believe in the power of youth innovation and to commit to building a country where no Nigerian goes hungry and every young mind finds opportunity in agriculture.

Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of SAGE Nigeria, Mr. Agwu Amogu, described the programme as a national celebration of young minds shaping the future through creativity, innovation, and enterprise.

He applauded the bold teen entrepreneurs who, rather than succumbing to apathy, have chosen action and view the challenges around them not as obstacles, but as opportunities for meaningful impact.

While expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to youth empowerment and innovation, Amogu called on subnational governments and other stakeholders to adopt hands-on entrepreneurship education as a national development strategy.

"Mr. President, your leadership offers hope to millions of young Nigerians. Let us work together to scale SAGE to every secondary school in Nigeria," he stated.

SAGE was founded in 2002 at California State University, Chico, USA. Since its launch in Nigeria in 2006, it has become one of the most effective platforms for youth empowerment, educational transformation, and community development. The programme is now active in over 32 countries, with Nigeria standing out among the top-performing nations.
