THE GIRL WHO KNOCKED AT MIDNIGHT — Episode 5
The knocking at the back door was slow… too slow.
Each knock sounded like something heavy was hitting the wood gently, almost politely.
But nothing about the moment felt polite.
My heart jumped into my throat. I wanted to pretend I didn’t hear it, but the knocking continued—
steady…
patient…
as if whatever was outside knew I had nowhere else to run.
I stepped backward, trying not to make a sound. The house felt smaller, the air hotter, like fear itself was breathing beside me.
Then my phone vibrated.
Another message.
“Whatever you do, don’t let the back door open. You are not alone in the house.”
My blood went cold.
Not alone?
Who else was inside?
I looked around the room slowly.
Everything looked normal, but something felt wrong—very wrong. It was that strange feeling you get when someone is watching you, even if you can’t see them.
I started to move toward the hallway, but a soft sound stopped me.
A whisper.
From inside the house.
“Don’t… trust… the door.”
I froze.
The voice wasn’t coming from outside.
It was coming from the kitchen.
I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly dry. The kitchen light was off, but I could see a faint silhouette standing near the fridge—small, thin, shaking.
The girl.
The same girl who knocked at my door earlier.
She was inside my house.
She stepped forward slowly, her white gown brushing the floor, her long hair covering half of her face.
Her voice trembled as she whispered:
“They found another way in… they always do.”
I backed away, confused and scared.
“How did you get inside?” I asked.
She lifted her head slightly, but didn’t answer. Instead, she pointed toward the hallway.
“Don’t go there,” she said. “They’re already waiting.”
My legs weakened. I didn’t know what to believe anymore.
The knocking at the back door stopped suddenly.
Silence again.
The girl moved closer, her eyes begging me to listen.
“You have to choose,” she whispered.
“Stay with me… or open the door.”
Before I could speak, something scratched the outside wall—long, slow scratches, like claws dragging across cement.
The girl grabbed my hand tightly.
Her voice cracked.
“Please… whatever you do… don’t look at the window.”
But she was too late.
Because something outside was already looking in.
