“Everything has cøllapsed in Nigeria. As of 1959, Nigeria’s National Shipping Line owned 6 vessels; by 1961, they owned 8 vessels, and it kept increasing. But today, they have no vessel.

I read today in the newspaper that when Emirates Airlines started in 1985, they started with two leased planes. At that time, Nigeria had over 20 planes. But today, Emirates Airlines has over 280 planes, while Nigeria’s own is now zero.

If today you’re critically ill in Nigeria and you go to the hospital, you might likely end up at the mørtuary. That’s why many Nigerians like taking ill people to church instead of hospital.”

It was a spontaneous and fatherly gesture- Oyo APC gov candidate’s campaign team addresses viral video of man sitting on his lap

The campaign organisation of the Oyo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has explained the context behind the viral video showing a male student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, sitting on Alli’s lap.

On Wednesday, September 2, a video of the governorship candidate having a man sitting on his lap and briefly caressing the man’s lap raised eyebrows on social media.

In a statement released, the campaign organization said the male student and other students from the institution’s Department of Banking and Finance had visited Alli at his campaign office in Mokola, Ibadan, to invite him to their programme as well as interview him.

According to the statement, the students arrived at a time when the available seats were insufficient for everyone, prompting Alli to ask one of the students to sit on his lap so the interview could proceed. It said Alli’s decision was “a spontaneous and fatherly gesture” and maintained that there was no inappropriate intention behind the action.

“It is deeply unfortunate that political desperation has descended to this level, where an ordinary interaction between a fatherly political leader and students who came to seek support for their programme is deliberately twisted into something sordid.

Those who know Senator Sharafadeen Alli understand his disposition towards young people and his fatherly relationship with them. There is no basis whatsoever for the offensive insinuations being attached to this video,” it stated

The campaign team urged the public to reject what it described as “cheap political blackmail” and any misleading narratives surrounding the footage.

Oyo Senator slammed after it emerged that young man he carressed on his lap and told "you have to use what you have to get what you want" is just a student.

A video of Oyo APC gubernatorial candidate, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, which went viral earlier today, has sparked backlash after the young man involved was revealed to be a student.

Initially, Nigerians reacted to the video with mild amusement. However, after it emerged that the young man is a representative of the Banking and Finance Students’ Association, from the Ibadan Polytechnic, viewers became outraged as they called the act an abuse of power.

The video was recorded when students met with the Oyo APC gubernatorial candidate, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli to seek support for their program.

The student, seen sitting on the senator's lap for an unknown reason, seemed tense and folded his fingers to form a fist as he asked the Senator questions which he read from his phone.

Soon, the Senator is seen rubbing the young man's thigh with his hand.

Then, the student asked the Senator a question about unemployment and the approach he would take to ensure that it is resolved if he becomes governor.

Alli responded while rubbing the young man's thigh, "Well, you're going to use what you have to get what you want, to leverage on whatever we have in the state."

While many are blaming the Senator, some are also blaming the young man for not putting an end to the act.

However, many defended the student, stating that he was in an uncomfortable situation and was the powerless party.
