If you carefully watched the World Cup final, you'll agree with me that this was the first time Argentina faced a truly top-quality side in the tournament, and they were completely outplayed.
Argentina had done well to find their way through the earlier rounds, relying on individual quality and doing enough to overcome every opponent in front of them.
But the moment they came up against Spain, the difference in quality, structure and control of the game became clear.
Spain dominated the midfield, controlled possession and forced Argentina to spend most of the game sitting deep and defending.
Argentina struggled to create anything going forward, leaving Lionel Messi isolated and unable to have the kind of influence we've seen from him throughout the tournament.
For me, Spain were simply the better team over the 120 minutes.
Argentina finally came up against an opponent capable of exposing the weaknesses they had managed to survive throughout the competition. ❤️🙏
