ety (OH&S). In 2017, our company sought ISO certification to stay competitive, and I was recommended as the document controller. I attended ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor training, gaining valuable skills in internal auditing and documentation. This experience led me to become the ISO Coordinator, where I conducted internal and certification audits and trained upcoming internal auditors. In December 2018, I partnered with a senior colleague to offer our expertise to other organizations seeking ISO certification. We provided comprehensive training and conducted internal audits across various sectors, including maritime, oil & gas, construction, and security services. In 2024, we officially launched Slyvic2021 as a registered limited liability company. Our mission is to help businesses achieve ISO certification, improve compliance, and enhance their processes. A NEW MONTH OF POSSIBILITIES 🌿
The ninth month is here!
The first of the ‘ember months’ and another beautiful milestone in our journey through 2026.

At slyvic2021, we believe that every new month is more than a change on the calendar; it is an opportunity to review, refocus, improve and move forward.
September is a month to turn efforts into results, plans into action, and challenges into opportunities.
As we enter the final four months of the year, may this month bring:

Fruitfulness in our efforts
Growth in our businesses
Meaningful connections and partnerships
Fresh ideas and opportunities
Clarity to pursue what truly matters
Grace and wisdom for every decision

The year may be moving fast, but there is still time to make a difference.

LAST MONDAY & LAST DAY OF AUGUST!

And just like that… August is saying goodbye. 👋
Today is not just another Monday. It is the last Monday of August; a gentle reminder that another month has passed, another chapter is closing, and we are stepping into the final stretch of the year; the 'ember months — September, October, November and December.

But before we rush into what is next, take a moment to look back.
What did you start in January that still needs your attention?
What lesson has 2026 taught you so far?
What goal can still be achieved before the year ends?

Remember: The year is not over simply because August is over.
There is still time to:
Restart.
Refocus.
Rebuild.
Learn.
Grow.
Finish strong.

Don't spend the remaining months counting what you didn't accomplish. Use them to make progress on what still matters. Many organisations will still achieve ISO certification before the end of the year.

At SLYVIC2021, we believe that meaningful progress is built one intentional step at a time.

Common Nonconformities found during management system audits

One thing I have learned from conducting and participating in audits is that…
Most nonconformities don't suddenly appear on the day of the audit.
The auditor simply discovers what the organisation has been tolerating for some time.

Sometimes it is something as simple as:
An outdated procedure still being used.
Training conducted, but no evidence of training effectiveness evaluation.
Equipment used regularly, but no preventive maintenance records.
Customer complaints were received, but no proper analysis or corrective action.
Internal audits conducted, but findings are not properly followed up.
Risk assessments are completed, but controls are not actually implemented.
Quality objectives established, but nobody is monitoring them.
Approved suppliers being used without proper evaluation or re-evaluation.
Inspection records missing signatures, dates or other required information.
Emergency drills conducted, but lessons learned are not documented.
And one of my favourites:
“We do it, but we don't have evidence.” 😂
In management systems, that statement can become a problem, because during an audit, you need to demonstrate not only what you say you do, but also what you actually do.

But here's something important:
A nonconformity is not the end of the world.
A good audit should not be about embarrassing people or finding faults.
It should help the organisation answer:
• What went wrong?
• Why did it happen?
• Is it a one-off problem or a systemic issue?
• What correction is needed?
• What corrective action will prevent recurrence?
• How will we know the action was effective?

The biggest mistake an organisation can make is to treat every nonconformity with a quick fix.
For example:
Problem: Training records are missing.
Weak response: “Let's create the missing records.”
Better response: “Why weren't training records being maintained in the first place?”
Maybe there was no clear responsibility.
Maybe the process was not understood.
Maybe the form was difficult to use.
Maybe nobody was monitoring compliance.
Fix the root cause; not just the evidence.
That's how audits become opportunities for improvement rather than just exercises in compliance.

So, before your next audit, don't only ask:
“What will the auditor find?”
Ask:
“What problems have we already noticed but haven't addressed?”
That question may save your organisation from several nonconformities.

Audit readiness is not about preparing for the auditor.
It is about being ready every day.

The implementation team gathered around a whiteboard.
The consultant wrote two headings:

INTERNAL ISSUES
EXTERNAL ISSUES

Then he asked:
"What factors can influence your organization's success?"
The discussion then became lively.

Internal factors emerged:
Skills.
Culture.
Technology.
Resources.

External factors followed:
Economic conditions.
Regulations.
Competition.
Customer expectations.

Many of the team members were surprised.
They thought ISO was only about internal processes.
Instead, they discovered that organizations operate within a larger environment.

Understanding context helps organizations anticipate risks and identify opportunities.

A strong management system starts with understanding the world around you.
