2023 Election: Ekiti SDP, PDP leaders unite over Atiku, promise to deliver
The chances of the Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar received a boost as former PDP leaders who formed crux of the leadership of Social Democratic Party, SDP, on Monday joined their counterparts in the PDP to agree on the choice of the former Vice President as their consensus candidate in the February 25 presidential election.
Converging on the Atiku Presidential Campaign Office in the heart of the State Capital, Ado Ekiti, it was a home coming as the leaders relish old times even as the comraderie amongst the old folks came to bare.
Addressing the gathering, an elated Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Ekiti State PDP, Arc. Sadiq Obanoyen applauded the SDP leaders for coming back home and hearkening the voice of reason. He thanked the leaders for rallying round at this time to ensure Atiku rescues the long suffering Nigerian people from the quagmire the APC has put them, stressing that history will be on their side.
Speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the meeting, the Director General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign (Ekiti Central Senatorial District), Chief Dipo Anisulowo said the gathering of the PDP and SDP chieftains is geared towards delivering the chunk of Ekiti votes for Atiku Abubakar in the coming election.
"You can see the crowd here present, incidentally, this is the Atiku PCC Office in Ekiti, it shows we are in for serious business. The SDP leaders you see here were former PDP leaders and they are here to discuss strategies that will ensure Atiku gets the maximum votes at the polls.
"Ekiti is a PDP State, we have let go of the past, we have put our differences behind us and we have resolved to work together to ensure Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerge victorious on 25th February", Anisulowo said.
Amb. Dare Bejide, Hon. Kehinde Odebunmi, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, Hon. Michael Ojo, members of Ekiti State PDP Caretaker Committee amongst other chieftains attended the meeting.
Earlier, Chief Bode Ajewole led chieftains of the People's Democratic Movement, PDM, in Ekiti State to the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Office in a courtesy visit and declared support for the former Vice President.
