High Chief. Hon. Dr Vincent Destiny Admonish Ahoada East Stakeholders and teaming Supporters over the ongoing backlashing and agitation of who controls the LGA.
He wishes to appeal to our party faithfuls and stakeholders that in the moment of our victory, we should not forget the tortuous road we all labored and travelled. This goes to all our supporters, the grassroots mobilizers, women groups, the youths, Wikematics, APC, rainbow coalition, PDP, GDI and all support groups who stood firmly behind the Minister of FCT and our dear in-law and leader Nyesom Wike.
Let’s not in the usual way undermine the efforts of those who sacrificed everything to pull our party back from the brink after the crises, in our efforts to monopolize the benefits that has come out of our collective struggle. That will be selfish and wicked, and it was the same pattern that nearly destroyed our party and our structure just a few months ago, and drove away most of our supporters.
I wish to thank all our supporters who have shown restraint and offering words of wisdom in this past few days and refused to take part in the needless tussle, and the so-called battle for supremacy over who controls or does not control the grassroots. We are all in our own rights grassroots mobilizers and have our support bases. On election day, every body will be confined to their villages to mobilize their supporters and vote. They can’t got to other villages to coordinate voters. So we are all in our own rights equal mobilizers at the grassroots level.
You don’t need to live in Ahoada, Ihuaba or Odhieke to mobilize anybody. It can be done from anywhere. Our people look upto leaders who meet them at their point of needs and who reach out to them when they are in problems, and don’t care where they are; whether in London, USA, Abuja, Lagos. They must not be with them at home to mobilize them. The critical issue is that do you care about them, do you protect them, do you communicate with them, do you meet with them, do you commune with them. Do you protect their interest, and not cheat them etc. These are the issues. So let us not be parochial and define the grassroots as having to live in Ahoada or the village. That is backwardness. We must encourage our best minds to explore like others and bring back the dividends of industry to our people. All of us must not live in Ahoada to play politics. It’s indeed backwards to live permanently outside of the cities which are our industrial hubs. We expect our sons and daughters who are forward looking to go out to the world and bring back dividends, industry and ideas to us and take our sons who are in the rural areas to the city as well and participate in the growth that other citizens are enjoying.
You will recall that after we all labored on the instructions of our leaders and the government was formed in 2023, we suffered some reversals. Many of our supporters who could not endure or felt aggieved by the way they were treated by some of us, left for the other side. *For instance out of 13 councilors 7 left us such as
1. Hon ThanGod Bernard - Ward 11
2. Hon IdalunimuluOge - Ward 6
3. Hon Livingstone Alali - Ward 9
4. Hon Beatrice Abraham - Ward 1
5. Hon Princewill Aguiyi - Ward 4
6. Hon Bob Ololube - Ward 12
7. Hon Uwandu Bright - Ward 2.
LGA GDI coordinator Ukame Abu and majority of the Exco and 11 Ward coordinators left us such as
1. Chinwe Okorji - Ward 1
2. Henry Uhor - Ward 2
3. Muzan Otuza - Ward 3
4. Elvis Ishikaku - Ward 4
5. Johnson Monday - Ward 5.
6. Evidence Adi - Ward 6
7. Emmanuel Ochu - Ward 7
8. Fidelis Ikebuluwa - Ward 8
9. Martins Odoi - Ward 9
10. Mackson Ekpeye - Ward 10
11. Ambrose Ile - Ward 12
LGA party chairman Handsome Agile and many LGA Excos and Ward Excos left us and many other leaders and the party was crumbling. *
We all recall the role played by Rt Hon Prince Chibudom Nwuche who called countless meetings and hosted party members both PDP, APC, Wikematic, GDI, Women, Youths etc and brought out huge resources both at Ochigba and Port Harcourt. Supported the councilors who remained with us. Supported GDI exco and party Excos to ensure that our people regained confidence. We recall the efforts made by Hon Solomon Bob who inspite of being in Abuja making laws and making us proud, he still came home regularly called meetings and gave out support to people. We also recall the efforts of those party leaders in Ahoada and other villages offering advice, support and solace to our supporters. Must we undermine all these efforts because dinner is ready? Or is it the typical character of some Ekpeye people known for witchcraft (emene ugbashi). Let’s recall the recent past and give respect to whom it is due.
Lets not allow ourselves out of temporary hunger to be used as tools by some unscrupulous leaders, to set up fake Facebook accounts to spread lies against our leaders and illustrious sons and daughters. In our culture it is called Ugbashi, and it's forbidden. No leader should seek to exclude others, including those who invested more than themselves from making inputs at this time of victory. It is baseless arrogance, inconsiderate and selfish and should be condemned by all well meaning Ekpeye sons and daughters.
Lets not allow any leader to dehumanize our youths, women, fathers etc, debase our morality, just to allow them access to our common patrimony. Those supporting such should search their conscience and turn a new leaf.
Our culture respects leadership, age and authority. Many of you on this platform recall when Rt Hon Chibudom Nwuche was Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. While there he put Ekpeye on the national map and brought us accolades. He helped our sons and daughters without minding which village they came from, and he has continued to assist Ekpeye people till date after leaving office over 20 years ago. He has always kept his gates open to our people to see them when ever he can. Let us be careful how we comment on this platform so that we will not lose out in the future while dragging pittances today.
It is time for unity as Ekpeye must turn a new leaf of cooperation and no longer of one individual taking it all. The party and the council belong to all of us. The chairman was elected amongst us to protect us and should work for all of us. We must demand transparency from our elected officers from chairman to councilors. We must demand inclusion as a right. We must not allow any leader to take over the structure we all laboured for because we are all participants and stakeholders.
I therefore urge our members and leaders to be mindful of how they comment on issues,as some of these actions will destroy the party and our cohesion. I call on leaders to be humble and show respect for their elders as doing otherwise is against our culture. We all know that ultimately the decider on who became chairman of Council is nobody on this platform but our national leader Chief Barr Nyesom Wike. Let us not usurp his roles and claim the credit that is due to him.
I come in peace and wish you all well. Lets be guided and always stand by the truth no matter how inconvenient it may seem, and what temporary advantage we may gain by standing for what we all know is wrong, both morally and in our culture.
