She thought everything was fine.

They used to talk every night. He would say things like “you’re my future” and “I can’t lose you.”
She believed him completely.

Then one week, everything changed.

The calls became short. The replies became hours late.
And when she asked if something was wrong, he always said, “I’m just tired.”

But one evening, she decided to surprise him.

She went to his place without telling him.
Her hands were shaking the whole way there, but she kept telling herself, “I’m just being paranoid.”

She knocked.

No answer.

She knocked again.
