Five Young Girls From Slum2school Africa Shine At 2024 Girl In Bloom Summit.
The 2024 Girl in Bloom Summit was nothing short of inspiring, and at the heart of the event were five remarkable girls from Slum2School Africa.
On Thursday, October 10, the Summit, featuring keynote speakers like Odunayo Eweniyi, Co-Founder of PiggyVest, and Lola Ekugo, Chief Digital Officer at FBNQuest, became a platform for Slum2School girls to showcase their emerging leadership, confidence, and vision for the future.
Building on last year's success, where Maryam Alade from Slum2School captivated the audience with her powerful speech, this year’s summit produced even more stars.
Slum2School Africa was well represented by five young girls who co-moderated various discussions on topics ranging from leadership to financial literacy.
Margaret Okpoe kicked things off, co-moderating the session on “Impact Beyond Boundaries: Girl x Leadership,” guiding the conversation with ease and energy.
She was followed by Moturayo Idowu, who led a conversation titled “Vision Beyond Reality: Girl x Mind,” where the audience was taken on a deep dive into the limitless possibilities of a focused mind.
For first-time co-moderators like Inioluwa John Sessou, who took on “Getting to the Future: Girl x Future,” and Promise Okeke, who helped lead the discussion on “Acting Beyond Limitations: Girl x Money,” the experience was both exciting and empowering.
Speaking after her session, Promise shared her reflections: “This was a huge step for me. I didn’t think I could stand on a stage like that and lead a discussion, but with the support of my Slum2School family and the guidance from the team, I feel like I’ve overcome a big fear today.”
Ibukun Wusu, who co-moderated the discussion on “Planning Beyond Today: Girl x Money,” also made a lasting impression. Known to be quite shy, Ibukun was hesitant at first but ended up impressing both the speakers and the audience with her calm composure and thoughtful questions.
“I’ve always been shy, but this experience helped me realize that I have a voice worth sharing,” she said at the end of the event, beaming with pride.
Tosin Durotoye, founder of the Girl in Bloom Summit, expressed her gratitude for Slum2School’s partnership, stating, “Thank you to Slum2School Africa for producing these five incredible young women. They brought so much life and wisdom to each conversation.”
The summit, themed “Beyond Boundaries,” lived up to its name, providing a platform for girls to dream big and discuss real-world issues.
It wasn’t just an opportunity for these young women to shine, it was also a powerful reminder of the work Slum2School Africa is doing to cultivate the next generation of female leaders.
From last year’s outstanding Maryam Alade to the rising stars of today, Slum2School continues to create platforms where girls can thrive and grow into impactful changemakers.
As the event concluded, there was a palpable sense of achievement in the air, with everyone—speakers, attendees, and moderators alike, feeling empowered to continue pushing boundaries.
Slum2School Africa's commitment to girl power and leadership development was on full display, and events like these underscore the importance of giving girls the tools and opportunities to succeed.
In her closing remark, Tosin Durotoye thanked all who contributed to the summit’s success, emphasizing the critical role that partnerships like the one with Slum2School Africa play in shaping the future of young women.
Slum2School Africa is truly leading the way, building more outstanding future leaders and continuing to push the boundaries of what girls can achieve.
With such a remarkable showcase at the Girl in Bloom Summit, the future looks bright for these young women.
