NEWSEXCLUSIVE: Despite Court Warrant, Sunday Igboho Allegedly Stops Police From Arresting Tani Olohun In Ibadan
Incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Ibadan after police officers arrived to arrest Tani Olohun pursuant to the warrant issued by a court.
Ibadan, Oyo State– Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, allegedly prevented officers of the Nigeria Police Force from arresting controversial Yoruba activist Tani Olohun in Ibadan, Oyo State, despite a court-issued warrant of arrest against him.
Incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Ibadan after police officers arrived to arrest Tani Olohun pursuant to the warrant issued by a court.
According to the sources, when the police attempted to take Tani Olohun into custody, members of his family reportedly contacted Sunday Igboho for assistance.
The sources said Igboho subsequently arrived at the scene with some of his associates and allegedly resisted the police officers’ attempt to arrest Tani Olohun.
A scuffle reportedly broke out between Tani Olohun and the police during the attempt to execute the arrest warrant.
“Immediately the police tried to arrest Tani Olohun, his family called Sunday Igboho, and he came immediately with his boys,” the source said.
The source added that Igboho later confronted the police and demanded that they hand Tani Olohun over to him, despite the existence of a court warrant authorising the arrest.
“Sunday Igboho later came after Tani Olohun scuffled with the police, and he told the police to hand over Tani Olohun to him, that they cannot arrest him despite the court issuing a warrant of arrest against Tani Olohun,” the source alleged.
Another source said the matter could also have legal consequences for Igboho himself if authorities establish that he deliberately interfered with the ex*****on of the warrant.
“The court will deal with Sunday Igboho himself for stopping the police from arresting Tani Olohun,” the source said.
The confrontation comes amid continued tensions surrounding Tani Olohun and law-enforcement authorities.
Tani Olohun, has reportedly resisted an attempt by police officers to arrest him, leading to a scuffle between the activist and the officers in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Tani Olohun, a prominent advocate of Yoruba traditional religion, was again thrown into the spotlight after footage of the incident emerged online, showing him sitting beside a tape while two police officers stood close to him.
The circumstances surrounding the attempted arrest and the reason the officers reportedly moved to apprehend him were not immediately clear as of the time of filing this report.
However, during the incident, a man recording the video could be heard accusing the police officers of behaving like “bandits.”

He also questioned the identity of the officers and the operation, alleging that the vehicle in which they arrived did not have a visible registration number.
This is quite a concern, why arrest Tani Olohun, in the first place? He has a right to practice Isese as Nigeria is a secular nation!
