Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United appears more settled than that of some of the other outcasts, but he is currently in talks over a possible switch to Premier League rivals Chelsea. The 21-year-old is believed to be keen on making the move to Stamford Bridge.
Reports now suggest, however, that United are hoping Tottenham will enter the race, as their involvement could help drive up Garnacho’s market value. According to GiveMeSport, Spurs have been given the “green light” by United to pursue the winger.
United are said to value Garnacho at around £50m, but without competition, Chelsea might be able to secure his signature for closer to £30m later in the window. Bringing Tottenham into the picture would strengthen United’s negotiating position and potentially push Chelsea to increase their bid.
The sources explain: “Manchester United have given Tottenham the green light to come back into the frame to sign Garnacho, according to GMS sources, as there are fears that they will be forced to allow him to join Chelsea for a cut-price fee if no other suitors are prepared to put cash on the table ahead of the summer transfer window slamming shut on September 1.”
With Spurs missing out on Eberechi Eze, a move for Garnacho could be an attractive option. The winger offers flair and creativity — qualities Tottenham are in need of after what has been a disappointing summer in the transfer market.
