MY OBSERVATION:
ANLCA's LONG WALK TO PEACE
" Success seems to be connected with actions. Successful Men keep moving, they make mistakes, but they don't quit"- Conrad Hilton.
I want to say a very big CONGRATULATIONS to the ANLCA family for their breakthrough in achieving an inroad to a permanent peace in the association's Long Walk to Peace on Wednesday. Though, it was rowdy at first , but very interesting as usual, you don't expect MDs/ CEOs of over 270 Companies present in the hall to just say Yeeeee and Naaay in an Annual General Meeting (AGM) that concerns them and the future of their Corporate entities.
The rowdy and rancorous situation later ended in a broker of peace with the two factions , the needed element that has long eluded the association for nearly five years now. But thank God , like the Christian will say , it all ended in praises.
Though, am not a member of ANLCA, but, as a Maritme Journalist, having study the power play, intrigues and ego display and having perused some factual and scene evidences about the genesis of the crises , I became emotional sympathetic to the course of truth and I also promised not in the course of reporting the ANLCA debacle, I will never malign, abuse or cooked up any sentiment against any personality, faction or group , so I stick by the facts and truth.
Although, some mistook my position as using it to make money, I never bothered and I never regretted walking that road. Because, I knew having understood the issues, one day peace will be achieved in ANLCA. Like the Bible says, " Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free". I also knew that with my knowledge of Corporate issues, that no organization , especially non -profit making organisations can do without following the detects of their constitution, which is one of the criteria for such organization to be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). As such whenever I saw propaganda about the ANLCA crises that is an alien to it's constitution , I said to myself this cannot fly.
Wednesday 15th March 2023 will remain memorable not only in the history of ANLCA, but in dispute resolution mechanism in the maritme Industry. The ANLCA crises had seems to differ all solutions and mediations, until the CRFFN intervention about a month ago. Even at that, it was very daisy that it will work. But in the words of Katherine Mansfield " Patience and Perseverance have a Magical effect before which difficulties disappears and obstacles vanish". The magical wane applied by the Chairman of CRFFN, Alhaji Abubakar Tsani, alongside leaders and elders of ANLCA, both seen and unseen paid off for the needed peace in ANLCA.
It is very important to note that, the CRFFN Chairman play a crucial role in seeing that the ANLCA crises is resolved, even when it became rowdy in the hall,he kept his cool ,but promised that he has suspended his trip and " We must settle this matter today, I have suspended my trip for this matter to be settled. We will remain in this hall till tomorrow untill we settle this matter. We die here". Frontal , dogged and die heart determination you may say.
The AGM became more interesting, when tempers, anger, sentiments and emotions were rising among members. But the calm, calculated , though troubled Acting National President of ANLCA, Dr Kayode Farinto Collins, stood up, pick the microphone and like the Biblical Jesus, tried to calm the troubling wave that is threatening to truncate the peace process again. Members have kicked against the appointment and inauguration of 8 new Board members and a patron , without election or their inputs . They opted for resolution of the entire board members and a new one appionted.
Like a man at the centre of the Storm, Kayode Farinto started the pleading game, applying Robert Greene's Law 43 of his Book , "48 Laws of Power" " Work on the Hearts and Mines of Others". He humbly and sobering pleaded for his teaming members to let go the past.
" Gentlemen, we are not imposing anything on you, I allow you all to vent your anger, am not happy myself. But we must move forward. Our industry is suffering, we now have 7 to 10 alerts on our jobs, because we cannot speak with one voice. Please I begged you all , we have use court, out of 14 cases we won 13 , yet no solution, Police have turn us to mugu, yet no solution, this is a Political solution. I begged of you all let's us move forward", . Farinto calmed the rising tension and nerves, that if allowed to fester , will truncate the peace process and ANLCA will be back to the trenches.
At this point I was shading tears for my friend the ANLCA Acting National President, whom I knew to be a hardliner. But I was also happy for he never disappointed me. Farinto is a man I have come to respect because he often respect and apply other people's opinion. He will always asked " what do we do" and if you have a good suggestion or opinion he will buy into it and apply it.
And so his appeals and pleas to his members did the magic, calm fray nerves and now the rest is history. But honestly, it was a great relief to everybody who loves and cherish the ANLCA family.
Finally, I want to say, am proud of this great feat for my friends, brothers and Sisters in ANLCA and I believe, the other activities, including election of BOT Excos and the NECOM election will be seamless and fruitful.
I also join millions of stakeholders and allies of ANLCA to support the new lease of life in ANLCA. Let no one, individual or Corporate troubles ANLCA again . Let forgiveness, peace and progress lead for all to benefit.
Once again, CONGRATULATIONS to the Great ANLCA Family.
