Hon Mike Ukoha has bee Inaugurated as a Member Representing the South East at the SOUTHWEST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (SWDC):

🎖️🎖️ A former Minority Whip/member who represented Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha, has been sworn in as the board member representing the South East geo-political zone, on the board of South West Development Commission (SWDC).

🎖️🎖️Speaking with newsmen shortly after the inauguration in Abuja, Hon. Ukoha, lauded President Bola Tinubu for finding him worthy to occupy such a position, expressing confidence in his new role.

🎖️🎖️He acknowledged the huge task ahead and reiterated his determination to keying into the Renewed Hope vision of President Tinubu, to better the lots of Nigerians.

🎖️🎖️The Southeast representative used the opportunity to assure people of the Southeast of his resolve to always pursue goals that will be in their interest.

🎖️🎖️Hon. Ukoha expressed his deepest appreciation to the Deputy Speaker House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, CFR, for facilitating the appointment and his commitment towards a better Nigeria, promising never to disappoint.

🎖️🎖️He thanked all those who honored his invitation with their presence and also for their commitment, love and support, before, during and after the inauguration and prayed God to bless them.

🎖️🎖️It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), appointed Hon. Ukoha as the South East reps on the board of SWDC, alongside other appointees, on May 9th, 2025.

🏦 Innocent Chukwunweike Ike is a highly respected Nigerian banker, financial strategist, and transformational leader with over three decades of experience in banking and finance. He was born on February 13, 1964, in Arondizuogu, Ideato Local Government Area, Imo State. He is the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, effective August 29, 2025.

🏦 Access Holdings Names Innocent Ike as Group Managing Director/CEO:

Access Holdings Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Innocent Ike as its substantive Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO), effective August 29, 2025, following regulatory approval.

🏦 He succeeds Ms. Bolaji Agbede, who has served as Acting GMD/CEO for the past 18 months, during which she oversaw critical milestones including the successful ex*****on of the Company’s ₦351 Billion Rights Issue, seamless hosting of two Annual General Meetings, and stabilisation of the workforce after the sudden demise of the former Group CEO. Ms. Agbede will return to her substantive role as Executive Director, Business Support.

🏦 Announcing the appointment, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR, Chairman of Access Holdings, praised Ms. Agbede’s “outstanding contributions” and welcomed Mr. Ike, expressing confidence in his ability to build on the strong foundation already laid.

Mr. Ike, a distinguished banker with over three decades of industry experience, graduated with First Class Honours in Accounting from the University of Lagos in 1988 as Best Graduating Student. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and a Certified IFRS expert.

🏦 He previously rose to the rank of General Manager at Access Bank, overseeing corporate, commercial, and public sector portfolios, before serving as Managing Director/CEO of Polaris Bank Plc, where he successfully steered the institution through a critical transformation. His return to Access Holdings is widely regarded as a homecoming and an endorsement of his brilliance, leadership, and lifelong commitment to excellence and innovation.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ABIA HOTELS, AROCHUKWU???

There are 3 Abia Hotels in Abia State:
1. Abia Hotels, Aba.
2. Abia Hotels, Umuahia.
3. Abia Hotels, Arochukwu.

What happened to the one in Arochukwu, which is the 3rd largest town in Abia State?

In the old Imo state, Imo Hotels were located in Owerri, Aba, Afikpo, Umuahia and Arochukwu. Then, suddenly, the Ibrahim Babangida Administration created Abia state on 21 August 1992. So, Imo Hotels branches located in Aba, Afikpo and Arochukwu then became Abia Hotels and, luckily for Ndi Aro, Mr John Ogbonnaya Egwu, one of the Aros living in the Diaspora in Afikpo, was named its general manager – he resided in Umuahia then.

Under him, Abia Hotels in Aba, Umuahia and Arochukwu blossomed and bubbled in business patronage. People patronised these hotels on the creation of Abia state; particularly, the branch in Arochukwu that was described by one man as ‘the best of them all in its location.’
The man who made the observation was Chief G E O Egbulefu, a former Chairman of Aba South LGA who still lives in Aba as I write.

So, Abia Hotel Arochukwu bubbled in patronage – and officers of government were posted there from time to time to manage the hotel. That was the situation until things began to change for worse for government parastatals including Abia Hotel Arochukwu.

But with time, one of the men who made things happen (in the political and the business arenas in Arochukwun then), the late Mazi Okereke Chioma (Atunaerimgbo) was linked to have taken over the hotel in franchise. According to unconfirmed reports then, Mazi Chioma began the renovation of the hotel when, suddenly, he died – many years ago.

And following his death, the fast-dilapidating Abia Hotel Arochukwu started deteriorating the more in infrastructural facilities. Weeds and reptiles started to take over the hotel – all the blocks in use in the reconstruction work started to fall, just as the other building materials store therein were stolen and moved away on daily basis – until today when things have really fallen apart about the hotel!

The sorry state of the whole sordid situation is that no single person of Arochukwu origin has elected to take action on the possibility of taking over and renovating and resuscitation of the abandoned Abia Hotel Arochukwu till today, not even one of the ‘thousand and one’ self-acclaimed business men and women Arochukwu parades locally and internationally, and this is really unthinkable and unimaginable.

The meaning, according to Mazi Igwe Akuma ‘Is that Arochukwu has allowed one of the few public institutions located in the town by government to continue to rot away like that. I am yet to believe that hitherto no Aro man has decided to take up the challenge of taking over the abandoned Abia Hotel Arochukwu – even on franchise basis – the way Mazi Okereke Chioma did while alive. This shows the type of life and attitude we live and lead as Ndi Aro. If some persons have taken over the well-located government hotel, some of our sons and daughters would have been employed therein as workers, thus checking the current high-level unemployment among our youths.’

It is the suggestion of the writer that Nzuko Arochukwu should initiate actions aimed at bringing the attention of Abia state government to the hotel. This is one of the things the Nzuko will do to convince the majority of Ndi Aro that the current leadership of the organisation is grassroots-oriented, and does not exist only for Ndi Aro living in Lagos, Abuja, London, New York, Canada and similar places abroad, as what obtained in the past.

This article was published in 2017. But as we speak, Government attention has been directed towards rebuilding and restoring the infrastructure and past glory of the Abia Hotels, Arochukwu and the two others in Aba and Umuahia.
These efforts of government includes: Perimeter fencing of the Abia Hotel land with a security gate, design of a massive edifice, survey of the land and inspection by the Ministry of Tourism, Abia State.

EXCITEMENT AS AROCHUKWU TO THE WORLD PROJECT UNVEILS "AROCHUKWU FOOD AND DRINKS FESTIVAL 2024":

The most anticipated event in 2024 have been unveiled by organizers. The Unveiling ceremony which took place at the prestigious Arochukwu Civic Center was necessary to formerly kickoff activities for the event, address the Press and announce important details to the public.

The buildup of anticipation began last November when the Director General of the Arochukwu To The World Project announced the event on his social media platform and since then, more and more Umu Aro have continued to wait patiently for more information from the organizers; hence the Press conference and unveiling.

Addressing Newsmen at the Press conference, the Director General of the project, Obasi Praise Genesis said the idea was born out of the "Show Arochukwu to the world campaign" which he initiated nearly a decade ago. He said the campaign was important to reposition Arochukwu on the world map and continue to project and promote tourism and her cultural heritage. "It is important to note that Arochukwu plays a vital role in Igbo and Nigerian history and so we must continue to introduce programs that will preserve and promote our rich cultural assets which food of course is a quintessential part of. What we plan to do is to host the world on our food table, stage them to an irresistible culinary showoff and allow them to taste and savor the sweetness of Aro Okeigbo in 2 days.
We shall achieve this by the grace of God because we have assembled the finest brains in the game and they are poised to deliver the best experience" the DG explained to our correspondent.

The press conference also served as an opportunity to reel off activities for the event which included: Cooking Competition, Food exhibition, food tasting, Avia Nkwo Trade fair, cultural displays, sip and paint, Music, Dance, Comedy and lots more.

Some of the partners and sponsors also used the special occasion to announce their support to the project.

On the guest list of attendees were The Special Adviser to Abia State Governor on Internally Generated Revenue, Hon. Chimereze Okeigbo, Mazi Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, Mazi Ike Onu (Ugwu Aro), Capt. Kelechi Okoronkwo, Hon. Nnaemeka Oti, Mr. Roderick Ben, Nnamdi Urim and other dignitaries.

Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid has lost his mother.

Wizkid’s mum, Mrs Jane Dolapo Balogun, died at around 1.30 am, Friday.

Confirming the incident, Wizkid’s longtime manager said Mrs Balogun died in the early hours of Friday.

‘Yes, she died this morning, at about 1.30 am” Sunday Aare said.

The late Balogun was mother to two other children, Yetunde Balogun and Lade Balogun.
