🚨 NFF CRISIS DEEPENS: GUSAU, SANUSI AND EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE QUIT

Nigeria’s football administration has been thrown into fresh uncertainty after NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the Executive Committee resigned.

The development comes after Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the historic absence of the Super Falcons from the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

But the biggest development may be what comes next.

⚽ The NFF’s September 27 elective congress has been suspended.

🏛️ Government has ordered a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football, with FIFA and CAF expected to be involved.

🔎 An interim administration is now overseeing the NFF Secretariat.

The central question is no longer simply who will lead the NFF next.

It is whether this crisis will finally lead to meaningful changes in the way Nigerian football is governed, financed, developed and administered.

How does an organisation the Federal Government says was never legally created end up with an administrative code, enter the federal budget process and receive a ₦1.3 billion provision in Nigeria’s 2026 Appropriation Act?

The ICPC’s findings raise a deeper accountability question: Were Nigeria’s budget and government verification systems strong enough to detect the purported agency before it reached the national budget?

Our investigation examines the paper trail — from the administrative code and incomplete documentation to the budget proposal, the ₦1.3 billion provision and the controls that prevented the money from being released.

Importantly, the evidence does not establish that ₦1.3 billion was stolen or spent. The bigger issue is how a purportedly fictitious organisation got far enough into the government system to appear in the national budget in the first place.

Dangote Refinery is preparing for a potential $5 billion IPO, with plans to expand its refining capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to about 1.4 million barrels per day.

But investors are watching a critical issue beyond the IPO itself: crude supply.

Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer, yet Reuters reports that Dangote Refinery currently imports an estimated 30%–40% of its crude, including supplies from the United States and Guyana.

Why?

Domestic crude is affected by existing financial commitments, supply arrangements, pricing, logistics and the terms under which Nigerian producers sell to local refiners.

As Dangote prepares for its next phase of expansion, the question is becoming increasingly important:

Can Nigeria supply its biggest refinery with enough suitable crude — at a price that keeps the business competitive?
