Dear women, why the unusual quest for a male child at the detriment of your health?
Ok, I understand the biased cultural reason to have your feet firmly planted in your husband's house. That desire to be addressed as mama boys. But must you pay the prize with your life?
It hurts most when you see women who already have female children beating themselves up all because they are yet to bear a male child, a supposed heir, as if female children cannot be heiresses.
Well, another woman has paid the prize with her life again. She had four daughters in quick succession, And I learnt that after she had the fourth girl two years ago, her doctors warned her not to get pregnant again as she was already at high risk, and that she barely survived the complications of her last pregnancy.
One would think that she will adhere to her doctor's advice, but she went on to carry another pregnancy.
I am not talking about a poor illiterate woman on the street who does not know her left or her right.
I am not talking about a woman who is too broke to cater for herself and her kids, should the worst happen.
I am talking about an educated and wealthy woman, who has a successful business. But because her husband keeps threatening her that he would marry another wife that will bear sons for him, since she's not capable, she went on to get pregnant for the fifth time.
Just like her doctors predicted, the pregnancy was filled with lots of complications that kept her at the hospital for a long time.
She finally had the 'golden baby boy' last weekend, but she died shortly from complications, and the baby boy died yesterday.
People have been thrown into a state of mourning. Their beautiful duplex has been receiving a host of sympathizers, who unarguably, will still need one or two forms of refreshments before they leave.
In the next one or two months, the woman will be buried, and the husband will move on. But what will be the fate of those little young girls who have become motherless?
Which other woman will love, care and protect them like their own mother?
Which other woman will be in tune with their emotional, psychological and spiritual needs like their late mother?
Nobody!
What pains me the most is that she died an avoidable death.
A man who has never been pregnant before, who has never felt the stress and discomfort of pregnancy and childbirth, will keep pressuring his wife to keep birthing babies. Haba!
Aside the wicked men who keeps asking their wives to give them a male child by all means, are a set of other women (sisters, aunties, mother-in-laws, etc) who keeps enabling the men to keep threatening their wives.
Her daughters are so cute and well pampered that you would wish to have a daughter like them... But the woman left all those precious gifts and died just because she wants to please her husband. Or probably because she doesn't want her husband to take another wife.
Now, tell me who the looser is?
The man will still go on to marry another woman or several women, but her daughters have been rendered motherless.
I don't know how long we'll keep preaching for women to love themselves to a point where they put their lives and health first before any other thing.
I feel sad in my spirit.
I pray that her soul may find eternal rest, and that God will keep her family. Amen.
Let's value ourselves as well as our lives 🙏🙏🙏
