WIKE SPOKESPERSON BLASTS SOWORE OVER ALLEGED DEFENCE OF SUSPECT ACCUSED OF FORGING HIV TEST RESULT

Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore over his reaction to the arrest of a social media user accused of circulating a forged HIV test result allegedly linked to the daughter of businessman Tony Elumelu.

In a strongly worded statement, Olayinka accused Sowore of attempting to portray the suspect as a victim despite the serious nature of the allegations, which reportedly involve forgery, defamation, and the unlawful publication of private medical information.

He argued that under Nigerian law, stigmatisation of persons living with HIV/AIDS and the unauthorised release of medical records constitute criminal offences, insisting that poverty or social status should not shield anyone from accountability.

Olayinka further questioned the moral basis of defending the circulation of allegedly forged medical documents online, warning that such actions could destroy reputations and fuel dangerous misinformation.

The remarks add another layer to the ongoing public debate surrounding free speech, activism, cybercrime, privacy rights, and accountability on social media platforms in Nigeria.

As of the time of reporting, Sowore had not officially responded to Olayinka’s latest criticism, while details surrounding the underlying case continue to generate reactions across political and online circles.

WIKE THREATENS TO SEAL BUILDINGS, BANKS LINKED TO TURAKI-LED PDP FACTION IN ESCALATING PARTY WAR

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a fierce warning against the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party allegedly led by Kabiru Turaki, threatening to shut down any office or bank account operating in the party’s name under the disputed leadership structure.

The explosive declaration comes amid deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party following claims by Turaki that he had assumed leadership of the party after a Supreme Court ruling reportedly invalidated the PDP’s 2025 national convention.

Turaki was recently announced as chairman of a 13-member interim National Working Committee allegedly constituted during a controversial National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.

Reacting during his monthly media briefing, Wike accused the Turaki-led camp of attempting to mislead Nigerians and operating outside the legally recognised structure of the party.

“You cannot disobey court judgments and then turn around to deceive Nigerians that you have a legitimate structure. That is not how democracy works,” Wike declared.

The former Rivers State governor challenged the faction to publicly open an official PDP bank account for nomination fees if it truly believed it was the authentic leadership of the party.

In a dramatic escalation, Wike warned that any bank that allows the faction to operate a PDP account could face serious consequences, insisting that only the recognised party leadership possesses the legitimate incorporation and registration documents required for such operations.

He further vowed to seal any building in Abuja being used as a parallel PDP national secretariat by the Turaki-led group.

“If anybody goes ahead to open an illegal office in the name of the PDP in Abuja, I will seal it,” Wike warned. “I will not allow any breach of peace because my duty is to maintain law and order in the Federal Capital Territory.”

The development signals a dangerous intensification of the PDP’s internal power struggle, with legal battles, leadership disputes, and competing claims to legitimacy now threatening the stability of one of Nigeria’s major opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

ACTIVIST FAROUK ONIMISI FREED AFTER DETENTION SPARKS OUTCRY, SOWORE ALLEGES POLITICAL PERSECUTION

Omoyele Sowore has announced the release of Farouk Ozigi Onimisi following days of detention that he described as unjust and politically motivated.

According to Sowore, Onimisi was arrested in Abuja by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and subsequently transferred across state lines, where he was allegedly held incommunicado for several days before being formally arraigned in court.

Sowore claimed that sustained pressure and intervention by rights advocates forced the authorities to bring Onimisi before a magistrate court, which eventually granted him bail after deliberations.

He further disclosed that all bail conditions have now been met, leading to Onimisi’s release and reunion with his family.

The activist expressed appreciation to Amnesty International Nigeria, legal representatives including Barrister Aliwo, and other supporters who played roles in securing the release.

Sowore also used the occasion to condemn what he described as oppression and abuse of state power, alleging that the detention was orchestrated by forces linked to the Kogi State government under Usman Ododo.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the Kogi State Government or the Nigeria Police Force regarding the allegations surrounding the arrest and detention.

The development is expected to further fuel conversations around civil liberties, due process, and the role of security agencies in politically sensitive cases across Nigeria.

POLICE, INEC FINALISE ELECTION SECURITY BLUEPRINT AS IGP DISU VOWS CRACKDOWN ON VIOLENCE, NO FAVOURITISM

Nigeria’s electoral security architecture is being tightened as the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has assured of robust protection for voters and a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct ahead of upcoming elections.

The assurance followed a high-level strategy meeting between the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja, where both institutions mapped out a comprehensive framework to secure future polls.

The meeting focused on preparations for off-cycle governorship elections, bye-elections, and the 2027 general elections, with both sides acknowledging growing security concerns that could threaten credible voting if not properly addressed.

Disu revealed that the police have activated intelligence-led strategies to tackle electoral violence, including monitoring political thuggery, strengthening protection of electoral materials, and coordinating operations with other security agencies.

He also made it clear that the police will remain neutral, warning that no political party or candidate will receive preferential treatment, and any officer found acting in a partisan manner will face strict disciplinary action.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, on his part, stressed the need for proactive security planning, including risk assessments to identify flashpoints and ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, and materials across the country.

Both institutions also emphasized inclusivity, with plans to ensure Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) can vote without fear or obstruction.

The police further confirmed that officers deployed for election duties are undergoing specialized training on rules of engagement, human rights compliance, and crisis response, as part of efforts to guarantee professionalism during elections.

With rising concerns over insecurity and electoral violence, the joint strategy signals a coordinated push to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic process, as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

OGONI POLITICAL SURGE AS MWARA SECURES APC SENATE FORM, VOWS TO FIGHT FOR RIGHTS AMID RIVERS CRISIS

Amid the escalating political crisis in Rivers State, Chief Barry Mwara has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial nomination form for Rivers South East, positioning himself as a key contender in the high-stakes race.

The development is being seen as a significant political breakthrough for the Ogoni region, with Mwara receiving strong backing from stakeholders advocating for greater representation and development in the area.

In a bold declaration, Mwara reaffirmed his commitment to championing the Ogoni Bill of Rights, describing it as a critical framework for addressing longstanding issues of infrastructure deficit, environmental challenges, and socio-economic marginalisation.

“As an Ogoni son who understands our struggles, I am determined to deliver the essential projects that will transform our community,” he stated, underscoring his grassroots connection and resolve to drive meaningful change.

His emergence comes at a time of heightened political tension in Rivers State, where shifting alliances and power struggles continue to shape the electoral landscape ahead of the next general elections.

Supporters argue that Mwara’s candidacy represents a renewed push for authentic representation, rooted in lived experience and a clear understanding of the Ogoni people’s historical demands.

As momentum builds, the race for Rivers South East is expected to intensify, with Mwara’s campaign likely to center on development, equity, and long-standing calls for justice in the oil-rich region.

The unfolding situation adds another layer to the complex political dynamics in Rivers State, as communities seek stronger voices and tangible progress in the years ahead.

BREAKING: DEADLY MENINGITIS OUTBREAK HITS SOKOTO AS DOZENS KILLED, HUNDREDS INFECTED IN RAPIDLY ESCALATING HEALTH CRISIS

A deadly meningitis outbreak has struck Sokoto State, leaving dozens feared dead and hundreds infected in what is rapidly emerging as a major public health emergency in northern Nigeria.

Reports indicate that the outbreak, believed to be cerebrospinal meningitis, has spread across affected communities, with children and young people among the worst hit. Local health sources say fatalities have been rising daily, with some communities recording multiple deaths within short periods.

Residents in impacted areas describe a surge in patients presenting symptoms such as high fever, severe neck pain, vomiting, and loss of consciousness—classic signs associated with meningitis. In several cases, victims reportedly die within hours of showing symptoms, highlighting the aggressive nature of the disease.

Health facilities are said to be overwhelmed, with increasing numbers of people seeking urgent medical attention as fear spreads across communities. In some villages, local leaders have reported significant death tolls, particularly among children, as authorities race to contain the outbreak.

The Sokoto State Government has confirmed the outbreak and deployed emergency health teams to affected areas, providing medications and launching investigations to determine the full scale and cause of the crisis.

Experts warn that northern Nigeria remains highly vulnerable during the dry season, as hot, dusty conditions create an environment conducive to the spread of meningitis, especially in overcrowded or poorly ventilated areas.

The outbreak adds to recurring seasonal meningitis crises across the region, raising urgent concerns about preparedness, vaccination coverage, and rapid response capacity.

As the situation continues to evolve, authorities are urging residents to seek immediate medical care upon noticing symptoms, while intensified containment efforts are underway to prevent further loss of life.

HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE’ — NEW POWER MINISTER ISSUES BOLD WARNING OVER GRID COLLAPSES, PROMISES 100-DAY FIX

Nigeria’s newly confirmed Minister of Power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has taken full responsibility for the country’s persistent electricity failures, declaring that Nigerians should hold him accountable if the national grid continues to collapse.

Speaking during his screening at the Senate, Tegbe admitted that repeated grid failures reflect deeper structural problems in the power sector, including weak transmission systems, poor coordination, and inadequate gas supply.

In a rare and direct commitment, the minister vowed that visible improvements must be seen within months, warning that failure to deliver early results would signal continued dysfunction.
“If there are no results in three months, there will be none in six,” he said, urging Nigerians to track progress and demand accountability.

Tegbe outlined a 100-day reform plan focused on stabilising the national grid, improving coordination across the electricity value chain, and introducing a public performance dashboard to monitor progress.

Lawmakers, however, made it clear that patience is running out, stressing that repeated grid collapses have crippled businesses, slowed industrial growth, and eroded public confidence in the power sector.

The minister also acknowledged a massive liquidity crisis in the sector, estimated at about ₦6 trillion, alongside infrastructure vandalism and entrenched interests allegedly benefiting from the system’s inefficiencies.

Nigeria’s national grid has suffered frequent collapses in recent years, plunging the country into widespread blackouts and forcing businesses and households to rely heavily on generators, significantly increasing costs and limiting economic productivity.

With his bold “hold me responsible” declaration, Tegbe has now placed his credibility and tenure on the line, setting the stage for what many describe as a defining test of the government’s ability to finally fix Nigeria’s long-standing power crisis.

DSS DISTANCES AGENCY FROM SERAP DEFEAMATION CASE, SAYS OPERATIVES ACTED IN PERSONAL CAPACITY

The Department of State Services has clarified that the defamation case recently decided against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) was not filed by the agency itself, but by individual operatives acting in their personal capacity.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations unit, the DSS said it had been “drawn to several publications” that misrepresented the case, stressing that the lawsuit was instituted privately by two of its officers and not as an official action of the Service.

The clarification follows widespread reports suggesting that the DSS as an institution had taken legal action against Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project over alleged defamation.

According to the agency, the distinction is important to properly understand the legal context of the judgment, which awarded damages in favour of the affected officers.

The case had generated reactions across civic and legal spaces, with concerns raised about its implications for accountability advocacy and freedom of expression.

By distancing itself from the lawsuit, the DSS appears to be managing public perception and reinforcing that the matter was a private legal dispute involving its personnel rather than an institutional crackdown.

The development adds another layer to the ongoing discourse around the relationship between security agencies and civil society organisations in Nigeria, particularly in areas of transparency, criticism, and legal accountability.

BREAKING: REGINA DANIELS BACKS OKOWA OVER ESTRANGED HUSBAND NED NWOKO IN HIGH-STAKES DELTA NORTH SENATE BATTLE

Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, alongside her mother and family, has publicly declared support for the Delta North senatorial ambition of Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, in a move that has sparked intense political and personal intrigue in Delta State.

The endorsement is particularly significant as it appears to place Daniels and her family in opposition to her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko, who is the current senator representing Delta North and is widely expected to seek continued dominance in the district.

Okowa, a former governor of Delta State who previously represented the senatorial district before serving two terms as governor, is now positioning for a return to the National Assembly, setting the stage for what could become a high-profile political showdown.

The development introduces a dramatic twist to the Delta North race, blending political rivalry with personal dynamics, as observers note the unusual nature of a public political alignment that contrasts with family ties.

While details surrounding the circumstances of the endorsement and the reported estrangement remain limited, the move is already generating reactions across political and social spaces, with many viewing it as a symbolic shift in influence and loyalty.

Analysts say the situation could reshape narratives in the district, where both Okowa and Nwoko command significant political structures, grassroots reach, and name recognition.

As the 2027 political landscape begins to take form, the unfolding scenario in Delta North highlights the complex intersection of politics, influence, and personal relationships in Nigeria’s electoral contests.

TENSION IN NIGER DELTA AS REPORTED CLASH BETWEEN TANTITA OPERATIVES AND BOROKIRI RESIDENTS LEAVES LOCALS INJURED

Fresh tension has been reported in Rivers State following claims of a violent clash between operatives linked to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and residents of the Borokiri area in Port Harcourt.

According to accounts circulating on social media, the confrontation allegedly resulted in at least two local residents sustaining gunshot injuries. Witnesses described scenes of panic as gunfire reportedly rang out, forcing residents to flee for safety. At the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies or medical authorities regarding the number of casualties or the exact circumstances that led to the incident.

Tantita Security Services, a private firm contracted by the Federal Government for pipeline surveillance in the Niger Delta, has played a major role in efforts to curb oil theft and protect critical national infrastructure. The contract, reportedly worth over ₦2 trillion in value, has remained a subject of public debate, especially among host communities who continue to raise concerns about accountability and operational conduct.

Local voices reacting to the reported clash have questioned the use of armed force within civilian areas, arguing that pipeline protection operations should not escalate into conflict with host communities. Some residents expressed fear that such incidents, if confirmed, could deepen mistrust between security operatives and the people they are meant to protect.

The situation has also revived calls for the decentralization of pipeline surveillance contracts, with critics suggesting that involving more local stakeholders could reduce tension and improve community cooperation. Others warn that failure to address these concerns may lead to further unrest in already sensitive parts of the Niger Delta.

Security analysts note that the Niger Delta remains a complex environment where economic interests, community rights, and security operations often intersect. They emphasize the importance of clear rules of engagement, transparency, and community relations in preventing escalation.

As of now, authorities have not released an official statement detailing the cause of the reported clash or confirming the identities of those involved. Residents in the area remain on edge as calls grow for an urgent investigation into the incident.

The development highlights ongoing concerns about security operations in oil-producing communities and raises renewed questions about how best to balance national economic interests with local safety and trust.
