WIKE SPOKESPERSON BLASTS SOWORE OVER ALLEGED DEFENCE OF SUSPECT ACCUSED OF FORGING HIV TEST RESULT
Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore over his reaction to the arrest of a social media user accused of circulating a forged HIV test result allegedly linked to the daughter of businessman Tony Elumelu.
In a strongly worded statement, Olayinka accused Sowore of attempting to portray the suspect as a victim despite the serious nature of the allegations, which reportedly involve forgery, defamation, and the unlawful publication of private medical information.
He argued that under Nigerian law, stigmatisation of persons living with HIV/AIDS and the unauthorised release of medical records constitute criminal offences, insisting that poverty or social status should not shield anyone from accountability.
Olayinka further questioned the moral basis of defending the circulation of allegedly forged medical documents online, warning that such actions could destroy reputations and fuel dangerous misinformation.
The remarks add another layer to the ongoing public debate surrounding free speech, activism, cybercrime, privacy rights, and accountability on social media platforms in Nigeria.
As of the time of reporting, Sowore had not officially responded to Olayinka’s latest criticism, while details surrounding the underlying case continue to generate reactions across political and online circles.
