Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday said some successes have been made since the launch of the bank’s digital currency known as the eNaira.

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, said at over 700,000 eNaira transactions worth N8bn have been recorded in the last year since the launch of the eNaira.

Emefiele, who delivered a keynote address at the ‘eNaira 1 year Anniversary’ held at the CBN Main Auditorium today, said, “Since its launch, the eNaira has offered Nigerians endless possibilities in using financial services thus, living up to the chosen slogan, ‘Same Naira, More Possibilities’ as well as achieving some set out objectives.

Specifically, there has been overwhelming interest and encouraging response from Nigerians and other parties across the world as indicated by the following milestones:

“33 banks are fully integrated and live on the platform.

“N3.00 billion has been successfully minted by the Bank.

“N2.10 billion has been issued to financial institutions.

“About 1.0 million (919,000) customers have been onboarded.

Brazilian presidential candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's lead over President Jair Bolsonaro has widened to six percentage points less than one week ahead of a runoff vote, a poll by Genial/Quaest showed on Wednesday.

Former President Lula has 48% of voter support, up from last week's 47%, while Bolsonaro remains at 42%.

The second round of Brazil's presidential election is scheduled to happen on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Pollsters were widely criticized after the first-round vote for significantly underestimating support for Bolsonaro.

The survey by pollster Genial/Quaest interviewed 2,000 people between Oct. 23 and 25 and has a margin of error of two percentage points.

Paul Okoye’s wife, Anita accuses him of having an illicit affair with one of their house maids

Recall that last year, the mother of 3 filed for divorce.

Anita requested the dissolution of her marriage with Paul, as per a partly redacted court document that surfaced and went viral on social media.

According to the petition filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Anita cited “irreconcilable difference” as her reason, asking her man to challenge it if he feels disgruntled.

BREAKING: Money laundering: Court sentences Senator Nwaoboshi to seven years in jail

Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

Nwaoboshi was sentenced to jail on Friday by the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

The Court also ordered that his two companies be wound up in line with the provisions of Section 22 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2021.-DP

Security guard arrested for allegedly impregnating employer’s teenage daughter

A 20-year-old security guard has been arrested for allegedly molesting and impregnating his employer’s teenage daughter.

Samuel Maikasuw was picked up by operatives of the Ikorodu division of the Lagos State Police Command.

The accused served as a gatekeeper at the house of one Fadiji who was a "surrogate parent" to the 15-year-old victim, according to a civil society organisation which is familiar with the case, the Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Peoples Network (ACVP).

Maikasuw was said to have been caught in a compromising position with the minor last year but was warned against repeating such.

The ACVPN said: "The perpetrator who d€filed and impregnated a 15 years old girl is Samuel Maikasuw 20yr old. He hails from Abaji in the FCT.

"He was a security man at Ms. Fadiji's house. He was once caught with the minor last year and was severely warned never to come near the little girl again and he apologised.

"He was later transferred to the shop of the landlord's wife who later converted him to a sales boy. He was arrested by the vigilantes and policemen in the Ikorodu area after the act. The suspect has been detained at Ikorodu division, Igbogbo."

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest, according to SaharaReporters. He noted that the crime was "defilement of a minor" which is punishable under the law.

He said: "It is confirmed. It is not just as simple as saying he impregnated someone. Under the law, it is defilement. He defiled a minor. The issue is still being investigated."

Ike Ekweremadu and wife charged with conspiracy to bring a child to UK in order to harvest organs

Former deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, have been charged with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs, the Metropolitan Police said.

Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court today.

Charges were brought against the couple following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime team.

A child has now been safeguarded.

The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022, the force said.
