One of the worst mistakes you'd make as an African man is buy something for your wife and forcefully take those things back when issues arise claiming that they belong to you because you bought them, or insult her of her background, listing everything you've done for her every eke market day.
I recently witnessed an awful incident of what a woman went through in the hands of her husband that made my imagination go wild about African marriages.
It's so confusing how a man values his mom and despises his wife whereas they both play similar roles in his life which the wife's responsibility is even more.
It's so confusing how a man sees his mom as his family yet sees his wife as a stranger .
A wife is ready to sacrifice her time, life, strength and ambition to build with a man. They swallow their pride and shame to start up something that appears meaningless and turn them into something meaningful but suddenly gets pushed off the corner and her sacrifices are seen to be insignificant when she ought to enjoy the fruit of her labour. Most women lately, hustle more than men yet they're still treated with less respect.
A wife changes her body, beauty, shape, carriage, prestige, brings her life on a platter just to bring seeds that bear the man's name yet still seen as someone who shouldn't have a single voice.
A woman is said not to partake on any tangible sharing in her father's house and is assumed to have a place in her husband's home yet is still seen as a stranger in her husband's home.
It's so pathetic how a man respects his mom but chases his wife with c*tlass.
Have you seen how fervent a woman prays for her husband and children even more than she remembers to pray for herself yet only a few truly see that as an applaudable effort.
Some won't even want you to do anything tangible to earn money so that you'd be permanently dependent on them there by taking away your voice and choice of suffering.
It's even teary how some of these men carry drink to these women's fathers houses proclaiming love and commitment with their mouth whereas deep down their intentions is to finally go and purchase a slave who they'd push to do whatever they like without uttering one word "a sheep for slaughter".
A lot has been going on in my mind for some days now that I don't know how to pen down.
It pains the most knowing that women actually are the real progenitor of this wickedness against their fellow women, have you seen how many mother inlaws/sisters in-law treats their brothers wives? "Thank God for a few that are so lovely at heart"
