*Student-Teacher Relationships: Maintaining Appropriate Boundaries*

As educators, we play a vital role in shaping the minds of future generations. However, with this privilege comes the responsibility of maintaining appropriate boundaries in our relationships with students. Crossing these boundaries can lead to harmful consequences, including gender-based violence (GBV).

*Appropriate Boundaries*

So, what constitutes appropriate boundaries in student-teacher relationships? Some key examples include:

- Avoiding physical contact or touching
- Refraining from sharing personal information or photos
- Maintaining professional communication channels
- Avoiding excessive one-on-one time with students
- Not accepting gifts or favors from students

*Red Flags*

It's essential to recognize the red flags that indicate a student-teacher relationship may be crossing a boundary. These include:

- Excessive one-on-one time with a student
- Inappropriate communication or gifts
- Physical contact or touching
- Sharing personal information or photos
- Favoritism or preferential treatment

*Prevention and Action*

To prevent GBV and maintain appropriate boundaries, we must:

- Establish and communicate clear boundaries
- Encourage open communication and reporting
- Foster a safe and respectful learning environment
- Provide training and support for educators
- Take prompt action when red flags arise

By prioritizing appropriate boundaries and recognizing red flags, we can create a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. Let's work together to prevent GBV and foster a culture of respect and professionalism in our schools.
