Senator Peter Nwaoboshi Laid to Rest in Ibusa — A Tribute to Service, Unity & Legacy
For Anioma N Vogue

The late Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, a distinguished son of Anioma and former representative of the Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, was laid to rest on Friday, 27 February 2026 in his hometown of Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State. The solemn occasion brought together national leaders, political figures, community elders, religious leaders and well-wishers who came to honour his life, legacy and contribution to public service.

The funeral service was held at St Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ibusa, where dignitaries paid heartfelt tributes to the former lawmaker, reflecting on his role as a political bridge-builder and a committed public servant. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led the tributes, describing Senator Nwaoboshi as a man who transcended political divides through his dedication to service and national unity.
As the family, friends and supporters bade him farewell, the overriding message from the service was one of reflection — not only on the achievements of one man, but on what it means to lead with purpose, to serve with humility and to work toward unity in a diverse nation. Senator Nwaoboshi’s burial not only honoured his memory but also invited a renewed commitment to national solidarity and public service — ideals he championed throughout his life.

Argungu Fishing Festival 2026

The 2026 edition of the Argungu International Fishing Festival returned in spectacular fashion, reaffirming its place as one of Nigeria’s most iconic cultural gatherings. After years of interruption, the ancient river town once again became the heartbeat of tradition, tourism, and competitive spirit.

At the break of dawn, anticipation thickened the air along the riverbank. Thousands of fishermen — armed with hand-woven nets, calabashes, and nothing but strength and skill — stood poised at the edge of the water.

Then the signal came.

What followed was nothing short of cinematic. In a breathtaking surge, the fishermen raced toward the river in a wave of determination, reminiscent of that unforgettable battlefield charge in Avengers: Infinity War. It was not superheroes charging into combat, but custodians of tradition plunging into history — splashes rising like battle cries, bodies moving with collective intensity toward a single goal.

The river transformed into a living mosaic of motion and ambition.

Cheers erupted from spectators lining the banks as competitors wrestled with the currents and with massive fish beneath the surface. When the largest catch was lifted high above the crowd — heavy, glistening, triumphant — the celebration was electric. Victory here is more than personal; it is communal pride.

Beyond the dramatic fishing contest, the festival unfolded in layers: traditional wrestling bouts, cultural dances, local crafts exhibitions, and culinary displays that drew visitors from across Nigeria and beyond. The event once again demonstrated how heritage can serve as both cultural preservation and economic catalyst.

For Kebbi State, the festival’s revival signals more than spectacle. It represents resilience, restored stability, and renewed commercial activity. Hotels filled, traders prospered, and tourism flourished.

Argungu 2026 was not merely a festival. It was a statement — that culture, like a river, may pause, but it never stops flowing.

And when it returns, it surges with power.

Rebuilding the Coastline of Opportunity
The Reconstruction of Oron Marine Terminal

The reconstruction of the Oron Marine Terminal marks a strategic step toward revitalizing coastal commerce and unlocking the economic strength of the region.

Once a vibrant hub of maritime activity, the terminal is now undergoing a comprehensive transformation designed to reposition it as a modern gateway for trade, logistics, and investment. The project encompasses the reconstruction of the shore protection system, the jetty, warehouse facilities, and the development of recreational spaces — all integrated into a broader vision of economic renewal.

Strengthening Infrastructure, Securing the Future

The shore protection project is critical. By reinforcing the coastline against erosion and environmental degradation, the initiative safeguards both infrastructure and long-term investment. A stable shoreline ensures that maritime operations can function efficiently and safely for decades to come.

The upgraded jetty will enhance vessel accessibility, improve loading and offloading efficiency, and reduce turnaround time for commercial activities. With modern engineering standards, the new jetty is expected to accommodate increased maritime traffic and support expanded trade routes.

Modern Warehousing & Logistics Expansion

Equally significant is the reconstruction of warehouse facilities. Modern storage infrastructure will improve cargo handling, preservation, and distribution processes. This upgrade positions the marine terminal as a competitive logistics hub, capable of supporting import and export activities while attracting private-sector participation.

Enhanced warehousing also strengthens supply chains across the region, stimulating commerce beyond the immediate coastal area and contributing to broader state-wide economic integration.

Beyond Commerce: Recreational & Community Value

The inclusion of recreational facilities reflects a holistic development approach. By integrating commercial infrastructure with leisure and community spaces, the project transforms the terminal from a purely industrial zone into a vibrant economic and social corridor.

This blend of commerce and recreation enhances urban appeal, encourages tourism, and fosters community engagement.

Driving Economic Revival

The reconstruction of Oron Marine Terminal is more than an infrastructure upgrade — it is an economic strategy. Modern facilities will:

Restore full commercial maritime activities

Create employment opportunities

Attract local and foreign investors

Boost internally generated revenue

Stimulate ancillary industries such as transport, hospitality, and trade

In repositioning the terminal as a modern maritime hub, the project strengthens the state’s economic backbone and reinforces its strategic coastal advantage.

As development progresses, the vision is clear: a revitalized marine terminal that not only restores past commercial glory but sets a new standard for coastal economic growth.

Infrastructure, when thoughtfully executed, does more than rebuild structures — it rebuilds potential.

Love Across Rivers
When Edo Meets Anioma

He is an Edo groom, rooted in heritage and quiet strength. She is a Delta bride, shaped by the warmth and resilience of the Niger Delta. Different backgrounds, shared values.

When families met, tradition took center stage. The Edo delegation arrived adorned in coral beads and regal attire, symbols of ancestry and pride. They were welcomed with Anioma grace — elders seated with dignity, women radiant in wrappers tied with confidence, proverbs exchanged across languages.

It was more than an introduction; it was the meeting of histories.

On their wedding day, culture did not compete — it harmonized. The bride first appeared in elegant Anioma attire, embodying the poise of her upbringing. Later, she wore Edo bridal regalia, coral beads resting gently against her skin, signifying acceptance into a new lineage. The groom stood tall beside her, traditional and proud.

Music blended seamlessly. Edo rhythms met Delta melodies. Guests danced freely, unconcerned with boundaries.

Their union tells a deeper story — that in the Niger Delta, diversity is not division. Love does not erase identity; it honors it.

Two cultures.
One journey.
A shared future.

Diaspora Reflections
Rooted in Anioma, Guided by Heritage
By Bolanle Adekoya (Malaysia)

Identity is not always a single thread. Sometimes, it is a tapestry.

I am Yoruba by heritage, but I grew up in Anioma — in the heart of the Niger Delta region. My childhood was shaped by the rhythms, language, festivals, and communal warmth of Anioma land. Though my surname carries a southwestern echo, my formative years were deeply rooted in Delta soil.

Growing up in Anioma taught me coexistence. It taught me that identity can be layered without being divided. In school, in the marketplace, at community events, I absorbed the cadence of Anioma speech, the respect for elders, the elegance of traditional attire, and the industrious spirit that defines the Niger Delta people.

Today, living in Malaysia, I often reflect on how those early years shaped my worldview. Malaysia itself is a beautifully layered society — Malay, Chinese, Indian, indigenous cultures — existing side by side. It feels familiar in a way. It reminds me of growing up in Anioma as a Yoruba girl: learning to belong without losing oneself.

Anioma gave me more than geography; it gave me grounding. It taught me adaptability. It showed me that community is strength. The Niger Delta, often discussed in political or economic terms, is also a region rich in culture, intellect, resilience, and enterprise. That reality deserves amplification.

Distance sharpens appreciation. Living abroad has made me more intentional about cultural preservation. I introduce friends here to Nigerian food, speak proudly of Anioma’s traditions, and share stories of growing up in a community where neighbors were extended family.

Being Yoruba and raised in Anioma is not a contradiction. It is a privilege. It reflects the beauty of Nigeria’s diversity — how cultures intersect, influence, and strengthen one another.

As members of the diaspora, we carry more than passports; we carry narratives. We are bridges between continents. And whether in the Niger Delta or Southeast Asia, our roots remain active, shaping how we see the world and how the world sees us.

Anioma N Vogue is part of that bridge — documenting heritage, celebrating excellence, and reminding us that identity evolves but never disappears.

From Malaysia, I remain connected — to Anioma, to the Niger Delta, and to the layered heritage that shaped me.

Because home is not just where you come from.
It is what formed you.

MARIERE STREET, AGBOR:

A Road That Carried a Generation**

Mariere Street in Agbor is more than a passageway—it is a connector of time. Stretching from the Old Lagos–Asaba Road to the New Lagos–Asaba Road, the street quietly links eras, memories, and lives. Along its course, it intersects Osegi, Isedeh, Osuhor Imudia, Upper Odozi, and Ebeye Streets, forming a network that once pulsed with communal life.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Mariere Street woke early. As the sun broke through the roofs, children poured out from homes in their school uniforms—some walking briskly, others lingering to trade laughter and mischief. The street was alive with footsteps, voices, and expectation. School mornings were a ritual, and Mariere Street was their first classroom.

Landmarks gave the street its character. A1 Motorcycles was a familiar sight, its presence synonymous with mobility and aspiration. Agbede Block Industry stood as a symbol of labour and local enterprise. Tucked between Reservoir Street (now Professor Ebie Street) and Joel Close was a quiet colonial-era residence, a reminder of Agbor’s layered history and its encounter with distant powers.

Commerce and comfort also found their place. Abass Supermarket was more than a shop—it was convenience, familiarity, and routine. Food joints defined social life: the aroma of Piakain goat meat pepper soup drifting into the evening air, and the Last Bus Stop pepper soup joint, where conversations lingered long after bowls were emptied.

Mariere Street then was a community before it was a location. Neighbours knew one another. Children belonged to everyone. Joy was simple and shared.

Today, the street has changed—as all living places must. Buildings have shifted, routines have altered, and silence has replaced some of the old morning noise. Yet for those who lived there in the 1980s and 1990s, Mariere Street remains untouched in memory. The landmarks still stand—if not in structure, then in spirit. The laughter still echoes.

For Anioma n Vogue, Mariere Street is a reminder that progress does not erase the past; it layers it. Streets like Mariere carry generations quietly, asking only that we remember.

Because some roads do not just take us places.
They raise us.
