PRESS RELEASE
EDO STATE POLICE COMMAND SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON THE VIRAL VIDEO INVOLVING ONE AISHA WAHAB
The Edo State Police Command has been made aware of a viral video circulating on social media involving one Aisha Wahab, allegedly kidnapped in Auchi, Edo State.
The Command wishes to clarify the facts and set the record straight.
Upon receipt of the viral video showing Aisha in captivity, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Auchi Division to trace the victimβs family and ensure her rescue.
Investigations revealed through her mother, Mrs. Abdul Wahab, that Aisha had been kidnapped six days earlier near their residence at the outskirts of Igbira Camp, Auchi. The matter had not been reported to the Police until after the video surfaced online. Acting swiftly, the DPO obtained the contact number used by the kidnappersβlinked to Aishaβs phoneβand deployed technical intelligence to trace their location.
Sensing operatives were closing in on them, they relocated with thier victim from the coordinate that was tracked. Shortly after, another video showed that Aisha had been released. She was taken to the hospital, where the DPO confirmed her safe return. Aisha explained that the kidnappers changed their location and set her phone ablaze when they suspected that the phone was giving away their location.
The Command notes with concern, claims by some bloggers and content creators that they contacted the Commissioner of Police without response. These claims are false, misleading, and deceitful. At no time did the Command receive such contact, nor did any civilian collaborate with the Police in the rescue operation.
Let it be known that the office of the Commissioner of Police is always open to all and his phone number has been published for all members of the public. Therefore, the Command strongly condemns attempts to misinform the public and discredit the genuine efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Command, and the State Government. Such falsehoods, often driven by personal gain, are mischievous and undermine public confidence in law enforcement.
For the avoidance of doubt, records of every police action on this case are duly documented and open for verification at any time.
The Command remains committed to the safety and security of all residents and urges the public to report criminal incidents promptly to the nearest police station instead of resorting to social media or self-help measures.
