LEADERS: BORN OR MADE?
By: Dr. Godson Emedem
From time immemorial, man has constantly been puzzled as to the emergence of great leaders. Are they born or made?
This question has often been evoked when great leaders of the calibre of Nelson Mandela, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Comr. Adams Oshiomhole amongst others are been analyzed.
This question has more recently been rekindled in SouthWestern Nigeria owing to the emergence of a 21st century philanthropist, businessman and politician- Dr. Desmond OJ of Osun state.
If John Maxwell’s maxim “ A leader is someone who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way” is anything to go by, then Dr. Desmond Ojumu has in all parameters measured up to being a leader.
He has consistently proven to be an agent of constructive change and relentlessly demonstrated love and concern for the welfare of his people through his brainchild Dr. Desmond Ojumu MediaOrg DESMOND OJUMU FOUNDATION in form of scholarships, grants, palliatives and more importantly women and youth training/empowerment program.
Only recently, his philanthropic and pragmatic style of leadership for the people of Osun state was demonstrated at Ijebu-Jesa which saw over 500 Ijesa-North constituents as beneficiaries of desktop computers, Sewing machines, Motorcycles, hair driers, farm tools aswell as Financial support to aged women and youths with entrepreneurial ideas but lacking requisite capital.
While his benevolent and people-centric approach to leadership is nothing short of amazing, it’s even more astonishing that this initiative is sponsored by him regardless of the fact that he’s not a current political office holder.
Which again begs the question, ARE LEADERS BORN OR MADE??
