Auchi Polytechnic Refutes Alleged Increase in Administrative Charges

The Management of Auchi Polytechnic has debunked claims circulating that it increased administrative charges for students in the 2025/2026 academic session. In a bulletin issued on Thursday, the institution described the allegation as false, stressing that no increment had been made in the approved charges.

According to the clarification, sections A and B of the administrative charges schedule were only merged, hence students are to pay the entire charges into the Polytechnic’s TSA account via Remita, instead of making payments into two separate bank accounts. The management urged students and the public to be guided accordingly.

Auchi Polytechnic Announces Key Appointments in Students’ Affairs and Security

Auchi Polytechnic has appointed Mr. Anthony Ohimai, a Chief Lecturer in the School of Applied Sciences and Technology, as the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs. His appointment is designed to ensure continuity and effective student engagement within the institution.

According to a notice signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Angela Egele, ANIPR, Director of the Public Relations Division, Mr. Ohimai will oversee the Students’ Affairs Division and handle additional responsibilities assigned by Management. His role comes amid ongoing investigations into irregularities that marred the recent Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections.

In a separate development, the Polytechnic also named Retired Captain Sunday Ohiyimire Iyobhebhe as the Acting Chief Security Officer (CSO). The appointment, also confirmed by Dr. Egele, is part of Management’s efforts to strengthen the institution’s security framework. Captain Iyobhebhe, a retired military officer and seasoned security expert, will supervise security operations across all campuses to ensure a safe environment for academic and social activities.

Management expressed confidence in both appointees, noting that their roles are critical to maintaining fairness, transparency, responsibility, and safety within the Polytechnic community. Students and stakeholders were urged to support the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs and the Acting CSO in discharging their duties effectively.

SSANIP Commissions LPG Gas Plant to Subsidize Cooking Gas in Auchi

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP), Auchi Polytechnic Branch, has commissioned a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant to provide affordable cooking gas for staff and residents of the Auchi community. The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, at the entrance of Campus 1, was hailed as a milestone project that will ease the cost of living for staff and the wider public.

According to the Chairman of SSANIP, Comrade Yakubu Abdulfatai, the initiative reflects the union’s commitment to staff welfare and community development. He explained that the project was designed to provide the cheapest source of LPG in Auchi and its environs, while reinforcing SSANIP’s vision of executing welfare-driven projects that alleviate financial pressures.

Representing the Rector, Dr. Salisu Shehu Umar, at the event, Deputy Rector (Academics), Dr. Muhammed A. Obomeghie, commissioned the project on behalf of Management. He lauded the foresight of SSANIP and pledged Management’s continuous support for unions in undertaking development-focused initiatives. Other dignitaries in attendance included Comrade Godwin Ikhide, SSANIP Zonal Coordinator and National Trustee, who praised the Auchi branch for consistently implementing impactful projects.

The commissioning, moderated by SSANIP Secretary, Comrade Osahon Omole, also featured executives of SSANIP, ASUP members, and Mr. Muyiwa Ogundare, Managing Director of Auchi Polytechnic Microfinance Bank Ltd, who pledged financial partnership to support the venture. The LPG plant is expected to cut household cooking gas expenses while generating revenue for SSANIP’s welfare programmes. In a statement signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Angela Egele, ANIPR, Director of Public Relations, Management congratulated SSANIP on the feat and expressed readiness for more collaborations that promote staff welfare and institutional growth.

Imagine sacking your manager by accident.

That’s almost what happened to Massimo Cellino at Leeds United. The former owner finally explained the bizarre mix-up that saw manager Brian McDermott sacked by mistake.

Cellino admitted his poor English had been to blame. When he arrived at Elland Road, he noticed a purple couch in the suite and told staff, “Change that couch, I don’t want to see it anymore!” But because of his accent, they thought he said coach; and went ahead and sacked McDermott.

He only discovered the mistake later that evening when asked who would lead the team the next day. Shocked, he replied, “Why? Don’t we have a manager?” and was told, “No, you fired him.”

By then, word had spread and around 2,000 furious fans had gathered at the stadium. Cellino was hidden inside before being escorted away in a police car. “They told me, ‘It’s better if you don’t go to the game tomorrow!’' he recalled. 😂

Nigeria and Other Nations To Witness Lunar Eclipse

Nigeria and dozens of other nations worldwide will witness a lunar eclipse this Sunday, the 7th of September

The eclipse is expected to last approximately 83 minutes, which will start around 8 PM Nigerian time.

Scientists state that the eclipse will be observable across most of Africa, with some regions able to view the entire event.

Countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Benin, Togo, Niger, Chad, and São Tomé and Príncipe will experience the eclipse, though the westernmost areas may miss parts of the early penumbral or partial phases due to the Moon rising closer to or during totality.

Scientists confirm that a lunar eclipse is safe to view with the unaided eye.

A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned in space, with Earth in the middle, casting its shadow on the Moon.
