There was serious tension in the Senate today after a fierce exchange broke out between Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and a northern lawmaker who reportedly made an inflammatory comment claiming that “Nnamdi Kanu will die in prison and nothing will happen.”

Witnesses say Abaribe instantly stood up in anger, confronting the senator and warning him never to utter such remarks again. The situation quickly escalated, leading to loud shouting as lawmakers moved in to prevent the clash from getting worse.

Abaribe reportedly stated:
“You cannot speak recklessly about someone whose case is still in court. Nigeria is already too delicate for such irresponsible comments.”

A different senator, attempting to restore calm, said:
“This is the National Assembly, not a fighting arena. Even in disagreement, we must exercise restraint.”
