When Nafdac came for inspection in our facility last week, someone asked me of what use is it if it's confirmed already that we don't compromise on quality.

Me: Even if it's is certified already on quality, investigations would still be done randomly occasionally to ascertain that no personel is compromising on company quality standards due to personal reasons pr greediness.

Days has gone since we lost Dora, how many are like she in our drug regulation agencies, fighting to ensure the masses has access to quality drugs, foods and cosmetic

This action below set her apart, bringing to her appointment as the DG of Nafdac

When President Olusegun Obasanjo asked Prof Dora Akunyili why she refunded £12,000 meant for her medical care to her employees at PTF In 1998,

Her reply was GRANDEUR:

"Because whether we like it or not, to steal, especially from the poor,we will destroy everything and everyone"

As the Coordinator of the South East Zone of late General Sani Abacha's Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) in 1998, Mrs Akunyili was diagnosed with Malignant Tumor, and she needed to seek medical attention in the UK. The treatment would cost £17,000 and her employers, the PTF, headed by General Buhari, decided to foot the bill and handed her £17,000 in an open Cheque. She made the trip.

But when she got there, she first requested a second diagnosis and pre-surgery examination. After the test it was discovered she only had a minor bowel obstruction. With consultation and treatment done, the balance left with her was £12,000. Now, the question is,what happens to the remaining £12,000?

Well, In the Nigeria's public sector, such money is not refunded. No one refunds government money-absolutely-NO-ONE. Even if refunding is an obligation, it is a matter of claiming that the surgery actually took place. But not Akunyili. She voluntarily refunded the surgery money.

The news got to the Chairman of the PTĘ, General Muhammadu Buhari. The General called her to his office and handed a letter of commendation to her. It was a rare case of honesty in Nigeria's public service.

Shortly, When Chief Olusegun Obasanjo became the President and reportedly needed someone he can trust to clean the mess in Nigeria's drug market, news got to him from Buhari himself, that there was one honest Nigerian pharmacist that should be able to do the job.

The story of her honest act in PTF was told to Obasanjo and Obasanjo decided to go with her, defying advice from some people within presidency who believed that being an Igbo woman, Akunyili was the last person to be considered for the job of cleaning a market dominated by her tribesmen. The rest is history. We all know what happened!

During her lifetime, she received 820 awards. In 2016, two years after her death, her husband discovered 110 more (930). No other Africa has won more.

Dora was an Amazon!

This is wrong on every level,

Marrying of girls even before they realize who they are denying so many the right to education and determining what happens to their bodies.

And we should really bow our heads in shame if we can't protect our girls.

The reason a woman might bleed after child birth (postpartum hemorrhage) is often called the four Ts (tone, trauma, tissue and thrombin).

1. Uterine aTony. Uterine atony (or uterine tone) refers to a soft and weak uterus after delivery.

This is when your uterine muscles don’t contract enough to clamp the placental blood vessels shut.
This leads to a steady loss of blood after delivery.

2. Uterine Trauma. Damage to your va**na, cervix, uterus or perineum causes bleeding. Sometimes, pooled blood can collect in a concealed area and the injured tissue can continue to bleed hours or days after delivery.

Doctors need to suture the torn part to stop the bleeding.

I had this during my first delivery and blood was just everywhere and congealing. Till Dr Udeh sutured it thankfully and it stopped.

He later told me it was what killed his mum and brought about his decision to be a medical doctor. Back then they didn't know what to do as they kept cleaning the blood till she was drained of all strength and gave up.

3. Retained placental Tissue. This is when the entire placenta doesn’t separate from your uterine wall. Sometimes, this is because of an abnormality in the placenta, but this can also occur with a normal placenta.

4. Blood clotting condition (Thrombin): If you have a coagulation disorder or pregnancy condition that impacts your ability to clot, there’s a higher chance that even a tiny bleed can become significant.

The information going viral is false. Akamu or Ogi water is not a coagulant

Take anyone bleeding continuously after delivery to the hospital for immediate and proper care.

Why your malaria drugs aren't working for you.

After buying quality products, it might still not work for you because

1. You are taking the wrong dose for your body weight.

📌📌📌 Check your body weight to know the appropriate dose for you.

2. You are taking it at the wrong time

3. You are taking it together with other drugs that affect it's activity eg vitamin C and blood tonic (ferrous capsule). Leave this till after you finish the malaria medicine then you can then take them.

The right time to take malaria drugs especially Artemeter + Lumefantrine ( common brands are Lonart, Coaterm, Shalterm etc) is

Ist dose.... 0 hours eg 10pm

2nd dose.. 8 hours after the first dose... 6am.

3rd dose... 24 hours after the first dose. 10pm

4th dose.. 12 hours after the 3rd dose... 10am

5th dose... 12 hours after the 4th dose.. 10pm

6th dose.. 12hours after the 5th dose ... 10am

Did you notice anything different from what you normally do?

The second dose is just 8hours after the 1st dose unlike others with 12 hourly difference.

Try it and see a difference..

Some malaria drugs eg Lonart do well with fatty foods as it helps in its bioavailability.

Also avoid stopping your drugs without finishing the regime just because you got relief, it can lead to the malaria parasite becoming resistant.

It means that the antimalarial you used before won't work for you anytime you have malaria again

Get your drugs at the right place, hospital or community pharmacy and follow the instruction of your pharmacist strictly.
