During the First School strike in 2018/19, I refused to go home and started Applying for jobs in Awka, I finally got One at a bar to cook, Clean and serve.
Salary was 6000 naira a month. 7am - 9pm, Monday to Sunday.
I worked diligently till one day, I was ranting to an Acquaintance about me being owed for weeks at the end of the month and he told me to quit and come work at his work place as they were looking for a new cleaner, pay is 12k a month.
Just cleaning? I'm in.
I go there and was employed immediately.
That was how I started working as a cleaner in a Club house.
Now I work 4 times a week, we come the day before clubbing and clean the whole place and go.
Then come back on the club day to manage the cleanliness of the club.
My station was at the toilet entrance to always mop up after clean ups.
I would get tips, have young girls tell me the I'm beautiful and shouldn't work here, had men come in and strike a few conversations with me, some are always words of encouragement.
One of them, Mr Castro told me that he also clean houses in UK, as he owns a cleaning company and an Igbo restaurant in UK.
He told me I can be contracted to clean, get paid and go my way without having to work for any establishment for salary.
I found this very interesting and had him teach me more.
That was when I started nurturing the idea of owing a cleaning company.
I would use Google to search and watch videos of other companies on YouTube.
Met Vee, and we decided to partner together and start looking for jobs.
We had no clue what we were doing, but the few 2/3ks made a whole of sense to me.
Following the end of the strike, I went back to school and luckily for me, Vee secured a job with law faculty and we were employed to wash toilets and fetch water.
Was already in 300lvl.
We would leave the house by 6 am, go to law faculty, cleanup the whole toilets ant fetch water.
We would be working and students be coming in, then will hide in a corner, have our bath and dress up for our own lecturer.
Would be in class smelling like Izal laced with body spray.
My salary, 6000 naira.
After few months of working, we stopped.
Comes Covid. We did a few jobs after Covid, I started a career a social media manager.
That opened my eyes on social media.
I worked for months, continued by cleaning by the side till through the help of my Then Boss, my ex and my friends. I was able to Birth this brand omahs_cleanic
So yes, this is how omahs_cleanic came about.
Even after I launched, I was making mistakes, upon mistakes.
This first picture was taken when I landed my first job, I used the money to buy buckets and mop sticks.
Second picture when I got my first instagram customer.
Third picture, first big project and we cleaned it for 2 weeks straight.
I kept running in circles tilI I seemed knowledge, got it and last year, was able to drop other career paths to focus on this and this is me saying, Iโm proud of this journey.
