CP ORUTUGU CHARGES INVESTIGATIVE OFFICERS TO EXPEDITE ACTION ON REPORTED SUSPECTED MURDER OF 23-YEAR-OLD FEMALE STUDENT IN HER RESIDENCE AT ALOR

As the Command has the Landlord in Custody for Interrogation

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, has directed investigative officers to expedite action on the investigation into the reported suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student, whose lifeless body was discovered at her residence in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The CP gave the directive following the transfer of the Case from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and discreet investigation. The incident was first reported on 14th June, 2026, after the deceased’s body was discovered within the compound where she resided as a tenant.

Police operatives who visited the scene observed a deep cut on the deceased’s thigh, other visible marks of violence on her body and blood stains around the scene, suggesting that she may have been murdered. Further inquiries revealed that the deceased was a student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor.

Meanwhile, the landlord of the premises has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation as part of ongoing investigations. The body of the deceased has been deposited in a hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Consequently, CP Orutugu has ordered a thorough and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and charged the investigating team to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The Commissioner of Police further reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice in the matter and urged anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward and assist the Police.

“MY DAUGHTER, MY DAUGHTER” — GRIEF, SHOCK AS NURSING STUDENT FOUND DEAD IN ALOR SPARKS OUTCRY AND POLICE PROBE

By Emeka Chiaghanam

Grief, disbelief and a campus in mourning after brutal killing of promising student

In the video that has gone viral online, a priest can be heard screaming in uncontrollable pain: “My daughter, my daughter, my daughter,” as he breaks down over the gruesome and untimely death of Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka, an ND II student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The late student was from Isingu in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

The emotionally shaken cleric, the Rev. Canon Emmanuel Chukwuka Anigbogu, Registrar and Chaplain of the institution, was seen and heard repeatedly referring to the late student as “my daughter,” a painful expression of the deep bond and affection he shared with her and the devastating impact of her death on the school community.

What began as a normal Sunday morning, June 13, 2026, around 8 a.m., during a routine church service on the school premises, has now turned into one of the most disturbing tragedies to hit the institution in recent memory.

It was during that service that the life of a promising young nursing student was discovered to have been violently cut short.

A MORNING THAT TURNED INTO MOURNING

According to accounts from the institution, Rev. Canon Anigbogu was leading worship when the news broke. The atmosphere of prayer and calm quickly shifted into confusion, panic, and grief as reports filtered in about the lifeless body of Miss Chilaka.

Speaking later, the cleric struggled to hold back tears as he recounted the moment he arrived at the scene.

“When I saw her body, I was overwhelmed with shock and disbelief,” he said. “The only question running through my mind was: how could human beings be so wicked, so heartless, and so cruel to commit such an evil act against a young girl with so much promise?”

He described the scene as deeply distressing and emotionally scarring, saying it was a sight he would never forget.

“SHE WAS TURNED FACE DOWN… THERE WAS BLOOD EVERYWHERE”

Rev. Canon Anigbogu further narrated that when he first saw the body, it was lying supine.

“When I looked closely, I noticed a deep wound on her lap. It was a painful sight. I decided to turn her body over so that the person recording the scene could properly capture it as evidence. Had I not done that, some important details might never have been documented,” he explained.

He added that the injuries suggested a violent struggle before her death.

“The nature of the wounds made it appear that she struggled with whoever attacked her. It looked like a fierce struggle took place before she was eventually overpowered,” he said.

A BRIGHT FUTURE CUT SHORT

For the Chaplain, the pain was compounded by who the victim was in life — not just another student, but one of the institution’s brightest stars.

“She was one of our best students,” he said. “During her matriculation, she emerged as the Overall Best Student and received nine different awards for excelling in nine separate courses. That was the exceptional virtue we lost. That was the bright future that was cut short.”

Her academic record, colleagues say, made her one of the most promising students in her set, with many describing her as disciplined, humble, and focused on becoming a professional nurse.

SCENE OF TRAGEDY AND EARLY QUESTIONS

The incident reportedly occurred at the residence of her landlord, Mr. Ogochukwu Ugoeze, in Uruezeani Village, Alor.

Canon Anigbogu said he did not meet the landlord at the scene, as he was informed that the landlord’s wife, Mrs. Amaka Ugoeze, had said he had gone to report the matter at the Nnobi Police Station.

According to him, Mrs. Ugoeze claimed she discovered the body while preparing early for church service.

However, several details at the scene raised questions for investigators and school officials.

“I asked how such a horrific crime could have taken place, resulting in so much bloodshed, without anyone hearing any noise or disturbance. I also asked about the dog in the compound,” he said.

THE SILENT DOG AND RISING MYSTERY

One of the most discussed elements of the incident has been the presence of a guard dog in the compound, which residents described as highly sensitive and quick to bark at any movement.

Mrs. Ugoeze reportedly stated that she did not hear the dog bark during the night and attributed any unusual sounds to rainfall.

This explanation has left many in the community puzzled, with neighbours questioning how a violent incident could have occurred without alerting the animal or drawing attention.

COMMUNITY ACCOUNTS, ALLEGATIONS AND RISING QUESTIONS

Residents and neighbours in the area have continued to share troubling accounts about the circumstances surrounding the death of Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka, with many describing a growing sense of unease over what may have transpired before the tragedy.

Some members of the community claimed that the young woman had repeatedly rejected alleged advances from her landlord, Mr. Ogochukwu Ugoeze. According to these circulating accounts, tensions were said to have escalated at different points, culminating in what some residents described as a confrontation at her residence that allegedly turned into a violent struggle.

People in the neighbourhood further alleged that the landlord later reported to the police that an unknown intruder had gained access to the compound and killed the student. However, this account quickly became a subject of intense debate within the community after reports emerged that investigators discovered bloodstains in different parts of the compound, including areas linked to the landlord’s residence.

These findings, according to community members, have raised fresh questions and fuelled suspicion about the exact sequence of events on the day of the incident, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.

Residents also pointed to the presence of a guard dog within the compound, which they described as highly alert and known for barking at the slightest movement or unfamiliar presence. This detail has become another major point of discussion, as many questioned how such an animal could have remained silent if, as initially suggested, an intruder had entered the premises and a violent struggle had occurred.

According to people familiar with the neighbourhood, this aspect of the case continues to generate widespread debate, with some residents insisting it raises further questions about the consistency of the account initially provided after the incident.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS AND EARLY EVIDENCE

Rev. Canon Anigbogu also revealed that a knife was reportedly found within a corridor in the compound, but it had no visible bloodstains, adding another layer of uncertainty to the ongoing investigation.

He further noted that some students living nearby claimed they heard unusual noises around 1 a.m., though none could clearly identify what was happening.

Only two students were reportedly residing in the compound at the time, but one was away on community posting, leaving Miss Chilaka alone on the premises.

The combination of these details has fuelled intense discussion within the Alor community.

COMMUNITY IN SHOCK

The killing has left the quiet town of Alor in deep shock, mourning, and disbelief.

“The entire town has been thrown into grief,” Canon Anigbogu said. “We have lost a brilliant student, a promising young woman, and a future healthcare professional whose life was full of hope.”

Community leaders and stakeholders have continued to visit the school and express condolences.

The Youth Leader of Alor reportedly visited the institution to assure management of support and to call for calm while investigations continue.

TRADITIONAL AND COMMUNITY LEADERS REACT

The traditional ruler of Alor, His Royal Majesty Igwe Chinedu Mac-Anthony Elibe Okonkwo, through the Palace Secretary, Prof. Luis Oraka condemned the unfortunate incident and prayed the security agencies to uncover the perpetrators of the heinous act.

He assured that the matter would not be swept under the carpet and that the community would support efforts to uncover the truth.

Similarly, President-General of the Alor People’s Convention, Chief Emmanuel Ojukwu, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as unprecedented and deeply traumatic for the community. He pledged to personally engage stakeholders and security agencies in pursuit of justice.

POLICE INVESTIGATION DEEPENS

Following preliminary observations, including reported bloodstains in multiple areas of the compound and parts of the landlord’s residence, Mr. Ogochukwu Ugoeze was taken into custody for questioning.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further and more detailed investigation.

Security sources say forensic analysis and witness statements are being compiled as part of efforts to reconstruct the events leading to the student’s death.

COLLEGE REACTION: GRIEF AND PRECAUTIONS

The Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, Mrs Chikodi Amarachi Umeakubike of Mrs Chikodi Amarachi Umeakubike, described the institution’s response as one of deep mourning and urgent care for students.

She said counselling sessions and prayers were immediately organised, while academic activities were suspended.

“It would have been insensitive to proceed with examinations at a time like this,” she said.

She confirmed that she arrived at the scene with staff, students, and security representatives, describing what she saw as heartbreaking.

STUDENTS DEMAND JUSTICE

Students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, staged a peaceful but emotionally charged protest on campus, demanding justice for their colleague.

Carrying placards reading “We Want Justice for Vivian” and “Her Death Must Not Be in Vain,” the students marched across the campus in tears and solidarity.

They called on the Anambra State Police Command and relevant authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

Many students described Miss Chilaka as diligent, kind-hearted, and highly focused on her dreams of becoming a healthcare professional.

NANNM CONDEMNS KILLING

Reacting to the tragedy, the Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Anambra State chapter, Comrade Edith Onwuka of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), condemned the killing in strong terms.

She described the act as barbaric and deeply disturbing, extending condolences to the school community while calling for swift and thorough investigation.

She urged security agencies and the judiciary to ensure that justice is served without delay.

A COMMUNITY STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS

As investigations continue, grief hangs heavily over the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor. Students, lecturers, and residents remain united in sorrow and in their demand for answers.

For many, Miss Chiamaka Vivian Chilaka is not just a statistic in a police file, but a young woman full of dreams — a future nurse whose life was abruptly and violently cut short.

Her last memory in the hearts of many is now tied to pain, unanswered questions, and the haunting cry of a priest who once called her his daughter:

“My daughter… my daughter… my daughter.”

And until clarity emerges, Alor remains a community suspended between grief and the urgent search for justice.

ALLEGATIONS OF ELECTORAL VIOLENCE AND INTIMIDATION TRAIL APGA PRIMARIES IN AGUATA LGA, ANAMBRA STATE

Aguata, Anambra State – Stakeholders and eyewitnesses in Aguata Local Government Area have raised serious concerns over alleged acts of violence and intimidation that marred the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA primary elections held on May 23, 2026.

According to multiple accounts from party members, Dr. Godwin Nnadozie, Special Adviser to Governor Charles Soludo on Medicals and Pharmaceuticals, was allegedly observed moving from ward to ward in the company of armed thugs and members of an unconventional security group identified as “Udogachi”.

The affected areas reportedly include Ezinifite Ward 1, Ezinifite Ward 2, Umuchu, Igboukwu, Achina, Uga, and other wards within Aguata LGA.

Witnesses allege that the group threatened and harassed voters, physically assaulted some party members, and seized or damaged mobile phones belonging to individuals who attempted to record the proceedings in the listed locations. The incidents reportedly disrupted voting and prevented several eligible party members from exercising their right to vote.

Many party members who participated in the process have stated that the candidate they massively turned out to vote for was Hon. Afam Ezenwafor “Afamation”, an aspirant in the primaries. Based on witness accounts, many believe the outcome would have been different without the reported threats and violence, and that Hon. Ezenwafor was deprived of his victory.

The allegations have sparked calls for accountability and an immediate investigation by relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and the leadership of APGA.

Public office holders are bound by law and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers to uphold democratic principles and maintain public order. The events of May 23, 2026 raise questions about the conduct expected of government appointees.

Stakeholders affected by the process, including the victimized aspirant, are calling on the Leadership of APGA and the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who is the National Leader of APGA, to look into the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action against Dr. Nnadozie for actions that truncated the electoral process and which amount to conduct capable of breaching public order and party discipline.
