Anambra Government Condemns Attack On NYSC Member, Assures of Justice

The Anambra State Government is appalled by the disturbing video being circulated online showing some members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) being assaulted and harassed by members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi in Obá, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

We strongly condemn this act of violence and harassment on these young Nigerians, who are serving their country with dedication and patriotism.

The government maintains that the Anambra security outfits, Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi, were a child of necessity established by the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 to maintain law and order, not to perpetrate violence and intimidation; the government equally notes that the two security outfits have commendably maintained law and order in the state since their introduction on January 18, 2025. Therefore, any form of assault perpetrated by any member of the security outfits is outside their code of conduct, and all those involved, particularly in the incident under reference, will face the full weight of the law.

The government wishes to reassure members of the public, particularly Youth Corps members in Anambra for their national service, that they have nothing to fear from the State’s security outfits – Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga-Achi – and should go about their lawful activities without fear.

The government wishes to appreciate the steps taken by the police and Operation Udo Ga-Achi so far by arresting those involved in the assault and urges the victims to cooperate with the police and the leadership of Operation Udo Ga-Achi to ensure speedy dispensation of justice on the matter.

I've seen a viral video of the sad incident — reported to have happened in Oba, Idemili South LGA — involving men of Agunechemba security formation and a female corps member who is serving in Anambra State. There's no justification whatsoever for such an ugly and humiliating abuse.

Such demeaning approach to law and order does not in any manner reflect our celebrated identity as a hospitable and peaceful people. It does not represent the humane philosophy of our administration, either.

There are always rules of engagement in such situations, and they must prioritize dignity, civility, and respect. I find the Oba incident very disturbing and appeal to appropriate authorities that are already looking into it to take critical measures to not only entrench justice but to, most importantly, ensure that we do not see such worrisome scene ever again.

Anambra's image is priceless. We must guard it jealously.

Soludo Hails APGA’s Victory, Welcomes Ezenwankwo Back to Party

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, CFR, has hailed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for its sweeping victory in the August 16 by-elections, describing the triumph as a clear mandate for the party ahead of the November 8 governorship poll, even as he formally welcomed former federal lawmaker, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, back into the party’s fold.

Governor Soludo made this known on Monday, August 18, during an event held at Nanka to welcome back a former member of the House of Representatives for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo, into the fold of APGA.

The Governor stressed the importance of unity within the party, affirming that the development is not merely a political strategy but a reaffirmation of APGA’s enduring relevance and its strengthened commitment to the progress of Anambra State.

“Welcome back home to APGA. This is where every progressive in Anambra belongs. It is not just a political party; it is a movement, and for many, almost a religion,” he declared, underscoring the deep-rooted significance of the party in the lives of Ndi Anambra.

“Anambra spoke loud and clear,” Soludo said with confidence, while expressing gratitude to President Ahmed Tinubu for emphasizing the need for free and fair elections. He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its role in facilitating a credible electoral process.

Governor Soludo further applauded the security agencies for their coordinated efforts during the just-concluded by-election, while emphasizing that the challenges ahead demand an even stronger APGA commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of Ndi Anambra.

The National Chairman of APGA, Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, lauded the party’s historic feat, crediting Governor Soludo’s leadership for the victory. He described the outcome as a massive boost for APGA’s strength in Anambra South and urged members to rally behind the next strategic goal, Operation one million votes for Soludo.

Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu thanked the electorate for their overwhelming support, describing the victory as a shared mandate for a prosperous Anambra. He noted that APGA secured over 75 percent of the votes, with more than 90,000 ballots cast in the party’s favor, calling it proof of the people’s unwavering confidence in the party’s vision.

Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo called on party faithful to demonstrate their loyalty to Governor Soludo’s administration through decisive action. He assured that on November 8, APGA supporters will stand firmly behind the Governor, stressing that the massive turnout at Nanka, over ten thousand strong, reflects the party’s unity and readiness to march forward together.

The event at Nanka not only marked Chief Ezenwankwo’s return but also reinforced APGA’s momentum as the party positions itself for the November 8 governorship election, with leaders and supporters alike projecting confidence in Governor Soludo’s continued mandate.
