My humble beginning
My pretty start
from scratch will i nurture you
from Zero will i patiently await you

neglecting those unruly feelings
That novice feeling
feeling of being the least,
feeling of everyone being better than

Then the beautiful feelings
of being better
of being noticed
of being wanted

how can i forget you
for what value shall i trade you.
For a penny did i bought u
But for no amount will i trade u

for you i will cherish
You i will nurture
You i will love
You will i exercise My patience

Till d day of harvest
Shall i tell ur story to many
and to my Children shall i instill this knowledge
That Little and humble beginning
Is the best you can give to life

YELL OUT ALOUD

Yell out aloud
for by the fire of pestilence
the glorious city is brought to ruins

Yell out aloud
to the crowns atop
in our native accent
with no words,decent
tell them of our disappointments
to their appointments.

Yell out to them in humour
for the peace they promised
is in pieces of rags
and upon the health of our children
it is worn upon

Some with their ribs pointing out
to show us a direction
to show the valley where we have brought them
their stomach protruding
to tell us of how drunk they are
with the evils from the crown

Now I ask
what is the reason for their beautiful sermons
during campaigns
if not that we vote them again
that we may continually be their slain.

CREATIVE CREW AFRICA is pleased to announce her CALL FOR SUBMISSION into her first issue in the OKIRIKA JOURNAL, an online quarterly journal.

All contributors are allowed to write on any topic of their choice, in their selected genres.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
1. All works must be original and properly edited.
2. A maximum of three works per person.
3. A short biography of yourself should be attached with your submission.
4. The subject line should be "OKIRIKA JOURNAL (GENRE)". For example, "OKIRIKA JOURNAL (POETRY)".
5. Submissions should be sent to [email protected]

Submission begins from Monday, 19th December, 2016.
Submission deadline: Wednesday, 1st March, 2017.

Memories from a blunt Matchet.

Lowly lowly
our coffins will lay someday
the cup shall be full of blood
and bullets shall take sides with the brain.
Every grain shall fall
to the rocks of our lust
and there they shall die
as if they were never planter
by a great farmer.

Why has our oil grown taller
that my eyes no more see its face?
Why has the market gone empty
as traders hunt for italian suits?
The faces of my sons have taken
the wrinkles of my old man
and their hands
the soft angles of the village blacksmith.

The matchet for the weeds of the farm
has gone blunt
for we have seen no need of it
but until our tummy grows
bigger to take a stream
and our necks thin
to hold the head to our dreams
only then shall we see
that our matchet has gone blunt.

blood in exchange for streams.

I talk about the sun
I talk about the lines
Pogroms and war tombs
Secession and Independence
Repentance in bullets for stew
And Genocide for rice

I talk about colours
I talk about coats in arms
I talk about our anthem
and its ridicle.

Unity we may believe
