The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State's Igueben Local Government Area (LGA) is currently mired in a leadership crisis.
Following a gathering of party executives, leaders, and stakeholders on June 10, it was decided by a vote of no confidence that Ken Ihensekhien was no longer the party's leader in the LGA. The Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo received the baton.
The party's executives, leaders, and stakeholders explained their decision, stating that they did so after careful consideration.
The party stated: "The local government executives, leaders, and stakeholders of the APC, Igueben Local Government, after due consultations, met on Saturday, June 10, 2023, and passed a vote of no confidence on the local government leader, Hon. Ken Ihensekhien, over his anti-democratic tendencies, poor leadership style, and consistent underperformance in elections since he assumed the leadership of our party, the APC.
"His arbitrary and unjustified policies have prevented not just faithful APC members from defecting but also prospective new APC members from joining.
The party continued, "As a result of the aforementioned circumstances, the House resolved and nominated Hon. Sylvanus Igbogbo, a kind and capable individual, to lead the local government area as the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) going forward.
Lawrence Okah, the APC's Edo State Secretary, told Popular News over the phone that the party's constitution does not recognize the position of leader and that, as a result, the party is uninterested in the matter.
Ihensekhien responded as well, disputing the assertion: "Who removed me? Who called the gathering from which I was expelled? Nothing like that exists.
Igbogbo responded to Ihensekhien and Okah's denial by saying, "Yes, the subject is not the party's state secretariat's concern. Whoever heads the party is chosen by its local stakeholders. I won't fight with Ihensekhien if he claims to be the party's leader in Igueben. He is likely in charge of one or two party members. All the best to them.
