Earlier this year, a client reached out to me. Let's say her name is Sophia. She needed an eye-catching logo and branding materials to launch her fashion design business.
After our initial consultation, Sophia began to complain about my rate being above her budget and how she wanted us to finish the project in less than 48hrs. Apart from the rate, we couldn't work together because the time she wanted the job delivered would not be possible. She cancelled our project, I can remember her exact words "Aren't you guys using AI? It shouldn't take long".
One evening, this was about four weeks later, Sophia returned to our initial conversation. We got on a call and she said to me "I need your expertise,". "AI couldn't capture my vision." She went on and on about how she had spent hours experimenting with several AI-powered design platforms, feeding them her ideas and preferences. But the results were nothing close to what she wanted.
I welcomed Sophia back with open arms (and a hint of "I told you so"). Together, we brainstormed, sketching ideas and refining concepts. The human touch made all the difference.
Within a week, I presented Sophia with a logo draft, which she approved almost immediately. And within 18 days we were done with the project (including corrections and iteration to ensure she got the perfect design for her business). Sophia was overjoyed with the delivery and she promised to refer her friends also.
One big lesson we both learnt: AI can augment human creativity but never replace the heart and soul of a dedicated designer.
If you are going to be selling to humans, you definitely need that human touch!
