Yesterday, i was at the National Museum in Benin city, where the NCMM is hosting an exhibition tagged Restitution in Motion: An exhibition of Benin bronzes returned from around the world.

I stood next to the original pieces of the Benin bronzes and art works which were taken from Benin after the British invasion in 1897, some of these art works are over 600 to a thousand years old.

I was in complete awe of what my ancestors could do at that time with no machinery, crafting all these items by hand from the bronzes to the wood carvings and to the ivory, every single piece tells a story of greatness.

If our ancestors could achieve this hundreds of years ago, imagine what we will be able to achieve now as their bloods still flow in us.

We are great people and we’re the land of art and culture.
